Would You Please Do This?
Who: Ash and Lucy
Where: The Sugar Shack
When: Friday Afternoon, 3/26
Lucy had asked Ash to meet her at the Shack after school. No particular reason, other than she thought that he needed to get out. She sort of wanted to bring up something to him, something that she THOUGHT he should be doing, but she wanted to guage his mood before bringing it up. Personally, she thought that he should go back to being Buffy's Watcher. Why? One, it would give him something to do other than sitting around his house all day. Two, him and Buffy really clicked on that level, and she wasn't sure if the girl would find another Watcher that would work for her. Three, she was Kevin's girlfriend (and future wife, if Karissa running around was any indication), so she wanted to make sure that Buffy was taken care of. She sipped at her drink and flipped through one of her school books (she'd probably spend the rest of the year catching up from her two week 'absence') as she waited for him to show up.
Not like Ash ever needed a reason to go to Lucy. The moment she asked, he'd agreed, throwing on one of his seemingly endless array of black suits, striding in as if about to conquer the world. Which was how he felt when he even THOUGHT about his light: invincible. Walking past the others in the shoppe as if they didn't exist, he made a beeline directly to her, stooping down to give her a deep kiss before sitting down across from her. "Hello there, love... How was your day?"
She kissed him back, smiling up at him as he pulled away. "My day was OK. Still doing some massive catch up with school work. Who would have thought that being dead for a few weeks would make you fall behind in classes?" she asked with a giggle.
"I suppose Meredith should have also asked the Grim Reaper to write you a note excusing you..." He gave a mock sigh of aggravation. "Damn her for not thinking."
Lucy laughed. "Maybe we should have gotten an excuse from that demon, although she wasn't exactly in a giving mood at the time." Oh well. "So, how was your day?"
"Decent. I've been working on some protection spells, something to keep you safe when I can't be there..." Clearly he was obsessing now, starting to panic if she was even out of his sight.
She sighed. She could understand why he, or anyone really, felt the need to be that way about her, but that didn't mean she has to like it. "Not wanting to sound like a nag, but what do plan on doing with your days while I'm in school? I mean, there are only so many protection spells."
"Well... I've been looking around, trying to see if maybe any local magic shops or anything need any help. Can't just depend on you to be my sugar mama after all..." He said with a little laugh, flagging down the waitress for a cup of coffee.
"Yeah, that's an option," Lucy said. "Or you could try talking to Buffy again."
"I would talk to Buffy anytime, Lucy. My quitting was nothing personal... I always welcome seeing her." He smiled sadly there, reaching over to take her hand, as, per usual, he seemed literally in pain if he wasn't touching her.
She placed her hand on top of his and gave it a squeeze. "Who do you think is going to be her next Watcher, though?"
"Someone... Worthy." Uh-oh. Here it was. The truth. "Everyone thinks I quit because of some revenge kick... Lucy, that's not it. When you.... you know..." He still couldn't even say the words seriously. "I went to the darkest place imaginable. I considered destroying time itself, then almost took my own life in desperation." He looked into her eyes, desperate for understanding. "Don't you get it, Luce? I'm not WORTHY of being her watcher. Buffy deserves someone good. Someone pure."
Actually, she kind of figured it was something like that. For someone so powerful, he had some of the worst self esteem she had ever seen. "Well, maybe you should ask Buffy that before you make that big of a decision," she told him.
"If it... means so much to you, I'll at least talk to her." It was apparent that if Lucy asked Ash to commit genocide, he'd at least consider it. He adored her THAT much. "No promises though."
Lucy nodded. That was more than enough for her. She was pretty sure that Buffy would want him back. "That's all I want is for you to talk to her."
"...you are completely and totally my everything. Always will be." The look he gave her was heartbreaking... and explained fully why he had fallen apart so completely when she'd died.
She leaned across the table and kissed him. He really was her everything as well. That was why she didn't want to live with anyone else at the moment.
