Dancing the Night Away
Who: Ash and Mere
Where: Eden
When: 3/10, Wednesday Night
So...Mere was in a bit of a celebratory mood tonight. Hell, she had been in one basically since becoming human again, and Ash being mostly back to normal with Lucy being back just made her feel even better. Of course, Lucy being back and certain...other things going on made her a little confused, but she didn't feel the need to think on it too much right now. Things will sort themselves out, right. So, instead of thinking on anything, she was out at Eden, dancing and enjoying life again. Of course, the lively short girl seemed to attract all sorts of attention, which, after a while, caused her to be surrounded by other dancing people. At least now she had the damn sense to tell which ones were vampires. No more of THAT, thanks.
Of course, while she might not have as much capability of defending herself anymore... Mere had something just as good: an uber-powerful and still slightly trigger-happy best friend. Ash, in this case, who sat at a small table in a dark, nearby corner, dressed in an all black suit, watching her closely.
After a few songs, Mere pushed her way through the crowd, grabbed herself a bottle of water, and made her way to Ash's table. "And once again, I find you in a dark corner, all alone and watching people. Come into the light, Ash. Who knows? You might enjoy it." She sat with him at the table just the same, popping open the bottle of water and tipping her head back as she took a long sip.
"I'm not watching 'people', Meredith. I'm watching YOU." He smiled at her, that new smile of his that sort of mixed happiness with a little bit of insanity. "Making sure nobody hurts you. And possibly just enjoying the view." He scoffed at the other comment. "And I don't need to come into the light. You already brought the light back to me."
"Well it's sort of my self appointed job, helping to bring in the light," she said to him. "And it's always good to enjoy a splendid view," she told him with a smirk as she leaned back in her chair. "So, how are you doing?"
"Yeah, Lucy's a hell of a sight..." He said with a look that showed both adoration and desire as he thought of her. "And... me? I'm doing great. And its all because of you."
"Damn right she's a he'll of a sight." What, she couldn't look? "And it was nothing. No worries there." Actually Mere was a tiny bit worried about that demon but she didn't want to think about that too much.
"I'm glad to see you gals getting along so well..." Well. That was one way of putting it, hm? "You know... ya look great tonight."
She looked down at the outfit that she was wearing, a tube top and skirt combo that, while showing off the assets, was still covering more than what she wore in her paler days. "Thanks. You're looking handsome yourself tonight."
"Heh. Please. I'm pale and wear nothing but black. Constantly. But I appreciate the compliment anyway." He smiled then, realizing that she was so much more beautiful with her coloring, with the life back in her.
"Please. You wouldn't catch the eyes of so many ladies if you weren't handsome, your lack of color be damned," Mere pointed out. Even bad boys who you wanted to make feel better had to be handsome.
"I know. And believe me... we'll have plenty of time alone. But I want to give her whatever she wants. It's all I want in life, honestly." Sadly? That WAS more or less Ash's biggest ambition in life: making Lucy happy. "And right now... she seems to want to spend time with me.... AND spend time with you."
Mere could understand the sentiment of wanting to do whatever it took to make Lucy happy. Hell, she was that way with Ash, after all. And not sort of with Lucy as well. While it had probably been magically induced, which meant that it could wear off, Mere hoped that it didn't. "Well, I seem to have moved in with you out of circumstance anyway, so she'll see me plenty enough. Do you really not mind that?"
"Look. Mere." Ugh. How to explain this? He wasn't even sure exactly HOW he felt. About any of this. "Lucy's my soulmate. I think, by this point, we ALL know this. But I love YOU too. And I'd be lying at this point if I said I loved you as just a friend. So... while I'm with Lucy, it's not like I'd EVER say I didn't want you around. You're welcome at my place anytime you like. No matter how long you stick around."
She smiled and nodded. Mere personally wasn't sure if she believed in soul mates, just on a personal point, but she did understand loving more than one person at the same time. Had basically been there for over a year or two, it seemed. Thing was, she HAD loved every other guy she had been with. Just not in the same way. "Well, good to know that I'm not just a third wheel hanging around and preventing you from having your girlfriend's ass," she teased.
"No... trust me, you haven't been preventing that at ALL." He teased back, laughing. "And you're a lot of things, Mere, but stupid isn't one of them. You KNOW you're more than than that to me. You've given me so much... the best friend a guy could ever want. More love and undying support than I probably deserve. The love of my life back again. You've given me SO much, Mere... you've given me so much I actually feel guilty about it."
"Well, I didn't do it to guilt you into anything," Mere pointed out. She smiled when she said it, but she was actually serious about it. She didn't want any sort of guilt feelings dripping into anything they might be feeling for each other. All three of them, for that matter.
"I'm just glad I could give you something in return." He said with a smile that for a brief moment looked like the smile of the boy she fell in love with back in Sunnydale, before things got all crazy. "No matter how unintentional it was... I'm still glad I could give you your LIFE back."
"You know, I was in a little shock at first, but now I'm really glad you did," she admitted to him. Plus, you know, food tasted GREAT after not really tasting it for a year, you know? God forbid she go overboard and get FAT, though.
"Does Jack know yet?" He asked, meaning Meredith's newly regained humanity, of course. "I figured maybe... he'd stop wishing me maimed. Because you KNOW he's never totally forgiven me for losing my shit back in Sunnydale."
"No, he hasn't," Mere said plainly to him. "And yes, he does. The first thing I did when I went outside, after staring at the sun like an idiot for a few moments, was go see him." That was basically a 'duh' there. Also, he nearly hugged her to death. Seriously. It was weird to see Jack cry, but at least she got why.
"Any idea if this..." Ok, so Ash *wanted* Jack to like him. Probably a mix of him being his best friend's dad and the fact that he sort of admired him. "You know... made him think of me any differently?"
"Well, I'm sure it'll help your case, Ash," Mere said to him. "Beyond that, all I can tell you is to talk to him." She really didn't know.
"You know..." He said with a dark chuckle, "The longer you're not dancing, the longer you're taking away my awesome scenery..."
She rolled her eyes. "You could always dance with me and get more than just awesome scenery," she told him.
"You know me well enough to know that I dance as well as I sing. Which isn't too well." He raised a brow, knowing that him? Dancing? Could only end in tears of laughter.
"Don't you know the trick to looking good while dancing?" she asked as she stood. "The trick is to have a good looking partner with rhythm, and no one will notice you." She offered her hand to him. "Come on out and have some fun with me."
"Fine, fine..." Yeah, because dancing with Mere was just torture. Still... when did Ash ever ADMIT he was having fun? He just let her pull him up, even though the strength just wasn't there anymore.
Mere laughed and pulled him up from his chair. She might not be able to actually juggle him anymore, but damn if she was getting him on that dance floor whether he liked it or not (and he so did). Just as she pulled him out there, 'Slept so Long' from that Anne Rice movie started to play, and Mere would have laughed if it wasn't actually a good song to dance to as well.
Ugh. See... Ash ENJOYED dancing (well, as much as he 'enjoyed' anything...), but felt ridiculous doing it. mostly? Because if he did more than just kind of sway there, he looked like an IDIOT. So? Sway, he did.
Well, Mere didn't need him to do much more than sway and hold onto her for now. What she was mostly doing was swaying, she was swaying and moving against him, and it was having the desired affect. Besides, she didn't give a damn what others thought of how they looked.
"You know..." He whispered into her ear as he held her to him, in one of his rare moments of complete, heartbreaking honesty. "The first time I saw you... as a vampire? I felt like I died a little inside."
"Well, I did try to bite you," Mere said. "I'm glad to be back to the old me, though. It's fun to be able to punch dents in cars, but it's lonely to know that everyone around you will grow old, have children and grandchildren, and eventually die and leave you."
"I just felt like... seeing you like that, like I let you down. Like I didn't protect you when I should have. I mean, I got used to it eventually... but it never felt like YOU." Between having Lucy back, having Patience back, and now seeing Mere human again.... he felt like for once his world was truly getting back to how it SHOULD be.
She leaned her head against his shoulder for a moment. Sure, not exactly a love song, but who cared? She was feeling a little snuggly after that statement. "You didn't let me down, Ash. If anything, that was my mistake." She should have known better than pick the tall dark and pale to go home with, considering her hometown, but she was new to LA and lonely. Not exactly in her right head. "But now I'm back, and I'm really back. So that's what matters."
"And like I said with Lucy...." he muttered, knowing he meant every work of this, "I'll destroy, maim, and kill to make sure nothing ever hurts you again."
"I'll make a shirt that says that just in case no one got the memo," she said to him with a grin, looking up at him. She stood up on her toes briefly and kissed him quickly on the lips. "I feel safe around you now."
"Good. Because nobody's ever gonna hurt my girls again." Aww. How about that one? He actually called them both 'his girls'.
She smiled when he called the both of them 'his girls.' What? She couldn't help it. It made her feel happy inside.
