Personal Note: Never Piss Off Benjamin Bale
Who: Ben and Kayla
Where: Avarice
When: Tuesday, March 9th
With Bronte going to Vegas to open another Avarice (franchise, bitches!), Ben had been spending more time at his original club. He was in a grand mood: Meredith had managed to bring Lucy back (which somehow, now most people forgot she was GONE, and he couldn't wait to get the details) and turn HERSELF human again, and Ben was beyond thrilled. So: other than not being able to fuck everything that moved tonight? Oh yeah, he was feeling like the Old Ben again.
Kayla had actually gone to Saints and Sinners to find Ben that night and grumbled a little to herself when she discovered he was here at Avarice. She'd been meaning to talk to him about a job ever since Deanna brought it up, but it seemed life just… got in the way. What with her new Slayer duties and all, she needed to prioritise. When meant one steady job, instead of two part time jobs. She'd be thrilled to chuck in the job at the coffee stand, but the job at the radio station? Now that one would be harder. She placed her hands on her hips as she looked around, trying to locate him. She'd gotten a description from Deanna and ... would you look at that. There he was – smug grin and all. She'd dressed in her purple Doc's, black tight-fitting jeans and a black corset... she was starting to regret the corset. Steeling herself, she made her way over.
His eyes caught her from roughly 50 feet away, but... The grin dissipated a bit as she got closer and that lycan radar of his went off. Goddammit. "Well. Another slayer, hm? Crawling out of the friggin' woodwork these days..." He mumbled as he took a sip of his scotch. "How can I help you?"
She narrowed her eyes at him, "How the hell... nevermind. Not important." She figured she'd get the details one way or another, anyway. "I’m Kayla." She offered her hand for him to shake, "annnnd I was wondering if you might be in need of any bar staff." There, why not get to the point?
"Well... Not so much here..." Especially now that Patience had started full-time again; "but I have another club: Saints & Sinners. We need tenders and waitresses there. Get me a resume and I'll see what I can do." Hey, hot or not, Ben didn't know this girl. He obviously wasn't trying to hit that, so why go out of his way?
Sigh. She was going to have to use the 'I'm fucking one of your employees' card, wasn't she? "Here's the part where I mention I was the reason one of your girls took a week off last month. Deanna," she clarified. "I'm not saying hire me because of that, but she seems to have pretty scrutinizing tastes when it comes to people she surrounds herself with. So, there's that. But, I prefer to earn my keep." She made a cutely frustrated noise, "...resume. Right. Getting ahead of myself." Hrmh, seems she picked that up from someone...
"Ahh... YOU'RE the Kayla that's had Dee smiling so much lately.... damn. Girl has good taste, I'll say that. Tastes good too, but I'm guessing you know that by now." Oh, what a cheeky bastard, hm? "Tell you what... stop by Saints & Sinners tomorrow afternoon. We'll talk... try to work out a schedule that suits you."
...Wait, what? Kayla blinked, trying to figure out exactly what part of that sentence she should focus on. Maybe... maybe the bit at the end would be best. She raised a slender eyebrow at him, "Just like that?"
"Look. Deanna's not just an employee, she's a friend. And she's my partner's BEST friend. So yes. Just like that. It's not like we can't get rid of you if you can't pick it up." Fair logic, hm? "Besides..." he looked her over again, appreciatively. "You should do a good job of keeping people wanting to be at the bar..."
To firing her, she said: "That's sound logic.” As for keeping people at the bar? She moved her mouth to the side and set her hands on her hips, before raising her eyebrows at him. She didn't truly believe she was beautiful (imagine that), but... she could appreciate that other people did. "Well, I'll try."
"That's all we can ask. Of course... there's one thing you gotta ask yourself." Hey. He was TRYING to be nice here: it wasn't his fault he made himself sound like an asshole when he tried. "Can you handle standing there all night while your girlfriend rubs her naked body all over a bunch of horny guys? Because believe me... she's GOOD at it."
It wasn't as if she hadn't considered it, after all. Or that... she and Deanna hadn't discussed it. Still, that didn't stop her from scrunching her nose. "Look, I understand it's her job. Frankly she's got the body for it, but... if it should get in the way of job performance, then I'll leave. No drama about it."
"Good. Because.... as I'm sure you heard, I've already had to deal with two people that work for me getting in a fight recently." He rolled his eyes, SO glad that was over. "I'd really rather avoid it happening again."
"Yeah..." she chuckled and rubbed the back of her neck, "Honestly? I'm not good with all the violence stuff. At least... I'm not used to it, so... Hopefully it doesn't come up. The only instance where it probably would was if someone got a little too... rowdy, but I understand your Uncle Dave is pretty good at handling that stuff."
"Trust me there: if anyone so much as makes Dee or any OTHER girl there uncomfortable, David will make sure the responsible person.... regrets it." He almost laughed there. "Not much makes my uncle more angry than someone upsetting a woman."
"No, I think he and I are the same there," she replied, since hey, they were going for honesty here. "I didn't really intend on..." she stopped mid-sentence and shook her head, "So. Tomorrow, right? Any particular time?"
"Any time after 3. If I'm lucky, my fiancé will keep me up late enough tonight that I won't be able to make it in much earlier than that." He said it with such a droll, sarcastic tone that it was hard to tell if he was joking or serious.
Kayla chuckled and shook her head, since this was the Benjamin Bale she'd been warned about. "Alright. I've... I've got class until 4, but I can pretty much come soon after that."
"No problem. If I'm not there... my partner or my fiancé will be. Either of them can show you the ropes." Ok, so... even being engaged, there was still some of that playboy mentality still in him. "....no chance of getting YOU to do some of the dancing, hm?"
"No," she laughed, giving him a playful little shove (holding back on her strength a touch... since she didn't know about the whole 'grr, werewolf' thing and that he could take it), "I won't be. Only Dee gets to see what's under this corset."
"Hey. It was worth a try. But anyway. Yeah, you got yourself a good one there. Deanna, I mean. Not always the brightest bulb on the tree, but one of the sweetest girls I know." Sadly? That was Ben being complimentary.
Remarkably, she took it as such. Nodding slowly, "She is a good one. There are a lot of things that I would do for her." She rubbed the back of her neck thoughtfully. "And I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm a good one, too."
"I hope so." And this? Was probably the closest Ben ever got to being a sweetheart to anyone who wasn't Skylar. "Because Deanna's too trusting to look out for herself properly. So I consider myself one of the people that does it for her now. And if you break her heart... you'll find that I will be very... VERY... unhappy."
Kayla listened to him carefully, deciding that Deanna's assessment of Ben had been right; he really did look out for her. "Like I said to Meredith, that's not something I plan to do." Was it possible that Deanna had found someone faithful, and who wasn't trying to kill her? Well, her luck had to change and some point.
"Good. Because I might be a pig, a louse, or maybe even the devil himself. It all depends on who you listen to around here. But one thing I definitely am..." he looked at her with an intense smirk. "is a loyal friend."
"Well, I hope that I earn that loyalty from you," she replied, actually gulping a little at that smirk. So ... yeah. Kayla noted? never piss off Benjamin Bale. It might be the last thing you ever do.
"Part of me wants to ruin the moment and say that spontaneous nudity would go a long way there, but... alas." He chuckled, bringing his drink to his lips. "Just take care of Dee. And believe me... we'll, in turn... take care of you."
"That, I think I can do," Kayla replied, smirking at him.
"Good. Then get your pretty little ass outta here. We'll see you tomorrow." Ben grinned, just pondering how hard he'd have flirted here had he been single...
"You got it, boss," she teased, giving him a wink before doing as he suggested. Honestly? She didn't think she'd like Ben, but just look at her being proven wrong, hm?
