Finally Making That Call
Who: Gabriel and Kayla
Where: Over the phone
When: Thursday, March 4th
Kayla had been meaning to call Gabriel for a while now. Really, she had, but little things kept getting in the way (like a new tongue piercing and a girlfriend who couldn't seem to get enough of said piercing, ahem). Since meeting Sin, however, those wheels started turning again. She played the business card he had given her between her fingers before sucking in a breath and dialling his number.
Lucky for Kayla that Gabriel was actually home. Although he didn't realize who it was calling, he answered promptly like he always did. "Hello?"
She hesitated when she heard his voice, but it wasn't like she could back out of this. Sin had told her as much. She rubbed the back of her neck and feeling awkward, she said: "Hi, it's Kayla. ...We met a while back?"
"Yes, Kayla," Gabriel said. "I am glad that you decided to take me up on the offer to call me. What can I do for you?"
"I guess... I just... I want to know more. I think, knowing this... I should do something about it, eh?" She sighed. "Funny thing is, I'm not a violent person, but not doing something with this, this power seems wrong. Does that make a lick of sense?"
Knowing more was a good start so he was willing to work with that. "I understand what you mean. I am not a violent person, either. We do what we must in order to protect others, though."
She thought of Deanna then, and knew that she would do anything to protect her. To protect those who could not protect themselves. "So, how does this work, exactly?"
"I train you to be able to fight. Just because you have the natural strength to fight something right now does not mean you have the ability," he told her. "It is my duty to train you to be the best Slayer that you can be."
"Okay," she replied, nodding slowly as if he could see. “That makes sense, actually... you might have noticed that my fight or flight response is geared towards 'flight'," she added with an embarrassed laugh.
"Usually flight is the better response, but you now have the capabilities to not have to do it all the time," Gabriel said to her. Obviously, sometimes flight was still necessary. If one wanted to live, it was.
Oh good, so in that instance she probably did the right thing. At least he'd been there to help her. God only knew what would have happened if he hadn't been... "Okay, so. Training. What exactly does that entail? It can't just be the fighting of it all, can it?"
"There will be a lot of physical training, but there is also other types of training as well," Gabriel said to her. Frankly, it was the other training that he was better at, although he was no slouch in the weaponry department, either. "I must also teach you how to identify and kill demons, which hacking with an axe doesn't always do."
Demons... wow. Okay. Taking that in. Compartmentalising and moving on. "So... there are things out there than can survive without the use of their head?" Okay, so that was kind of a joke... kind of. "Okay, learning about demons I can handle... but the fitness factor? Sure, I have the strength of an ape in this body, but physically? I have the endurance of a koala bear."
"Endurance is something that can be taught and learned," Gabriel pointed out to her. "And yes, there are things out there that can live without their heads."
"Right," Kayla replied, nodding again. To the other thing, she said: "Ew." So... she was really going to do this. Wow, big step. "When do we start?"
"As soon as you are comfortable with," he said to her. "The earlier, the better, though."
"Right. Wouldn't want anything chopping my head off, after all..." She thought about it for a moment. If she got her homework done… it would leave her Saturday free. Sigh. She wanted to see Deanna. What with school and two jobs and… now this? It meant she had to restructure her entire life. She wanted to quit the coffee stand for a while, but... she also needed a steady income. Hrmh. Maybe it was time to give Benjamin Bale a call... "Saturday?"
"Saturday works fine," Gabriel said to her. Since she wasn't the only Slayer around, she wouldn't need to train every day. More than one day a week, though. They would cross that hurdle later, though.
"...Cool. Erm, where should we meet?" Since... she didn't exactly know where he lived, after all. Or even if that's where they were going to meet.
"There's a training facility in the Sugar Shack's basement that we can use," he said to her. "Meet me there." He gave her a time as well.
The Sugar Shack... Really, now? It seemed like all of the important things in her life happened in that place. She smiled though, since it was familiar. "Will do." She paused and then added: "Thank you."
"See you then," he said to her.
