Because We Just Had To...
Who: Ash, Lucy, and Mere
Where: Ash's Home
When: Wednesday, 3/3
So, now it was time to wake Ash up and show him that the love of his life was back from the dead, and to go ahead and tell him that Mere pissed off a demon in the process. Always fun, but the last part will probably be overlooked, at least for now. Taking a still very confused Lucy by the hand, she led her to Ash's bedroom, where the poor boy was still passed out. "Hey, Ash," she said, shaking him. "Got a surprise for you." Maybe she should have wrapped Lucy in a bow or something? Nah, too dramatic.
Lucy, for her part, was still very confused as to everything going on. It's a little bewildering to be yanked from heaven and put back on earth. Of course, she was very happy to be back with her Ash, though. She had seen what he had went through, and it had hurt her to watch it.
Ash, either sadly or comically enough (depending on how you looked at it) had fallen asleep looking at the photo album Pat and Patience had made him of their wedding. He'd gotten fixated on a picture of himself with his sister, Meredith, and Lucy. Stuck on that moment with the three most important women in his life, he'd stared at it until literally falling asleep face-down on his bed. At Mere's calling, he finally stirred a little. Ugh. Back to real life. He was trying. Trying HARD to be himself again. But it was hard. "Hrmmm? Whu...?"
Well, that was kind of sad and funny, considering what he was waking up to. "So Ash, I just pissed off a powerful demon for you. If you don't appreciate this, I'm so kicking your ass to hell and back. I'll bring a bat as an equalizer, even."
Lucy looked at Ash and smiled. "Hey, Ash," she said. She leaned down and hugged him. It hadn't actually been that long since she touched him, but it had felt like an eternity.
...The HELL? Goddammit! He was still asleep. He knew it. And this was the cruelest fucking dream EVER. But... It felt so real. He could smell that familiar scent of her hair. Feel her smooth, soft skin. How...?
His voice faltered. This couldn't be real. Could it?
"L-Lucy?" Yes. A dream. It had to be. "I miss you, baby..." He hugged her, figuring this was somehow his chance to say goodbye.
Lucy ended up crawling into the bed with him, wanting to do nothing more than hold him, while Mere leaned against the wall and watched. "I missed you too, but I'm here again. Meredith brought me back for you." She looked over at Meredith and mouthed the words 'thank you' to her.
"This isn't real. It can't be." He still, sadly, thought this was a dream. Honestly, can you blame him? "Lucy... I'm so sorry..." The tears flowed as easily as if they'd never stopped. "I'm trying so hard... but I can't live without you..."
"You don't have to anymore," Lucy said to him. "I'm here for you now."
Mere walked over and punched Ash in the arm. Not quite the strength she would have packed once, during her vamp times, but damn if it still didn't hurt. "Still think you're dreaming? Or do you also require pinching?" she asked with a smirk.
"Lucy?" He asked, blinking with confusion. "Mere? Lucy? Mere? Huh? Wh... I... You..." He looked like his brain was overloading, like he was close to fainting.
"Didn't you hear the part where I pissed off a demon and got Lucy back, Ash?" Mere pointed out simply as Lucy snuggled up to Ash more.
Now, keep in mind that, aside from maybe a little bit of sniffling, Lucy had never really seen Ash cry. But right now? He clutched her tightly, SOBBING. "How did... " But he stopped when he realized he didn't care about the details. "This is... real? Permanent?"
"Yeah, this is real and permanent," Mere pointed out to him, smiling. So what if Mere couldn't have him all to herself. To know that she had made him THIS happy was enough for her.
"I'm really here, Ash," Lucy said, pulling back so that she could look him in the face, trying to wipe some of the tears away. "It's going to be OK."
"...love you... never leave me..." And those were just the words that were intelligible during his sniffling, as he just held her, kissing her forehead, cradling her like he might never let her go.
"I love you, too, Ash," Lucy said back, pressing her lips against his and holding him as well.
"Thank you, Meredith..." For the first time since before everything happened, Ash had some real emotion, humanity in his voice. "Thank you SO much..."
"My pleasure," Mere said to him. And, actually, it was. It even amazed her a little at how not bad she felt over this, but she made the person she cared most about happy. How could she complain about that?
