What Did You Do This Time, Chloe?
Who: Chloe and Skylar
Where: Chloe's House
When: Tuesday, March 2, afternoon
Skylar had to admit it finally; she was starting to get worried. She was actually worried over pretty much everyone at this point. No one seemed to have heard from Ash Kowalski in a couple of days and, from what Skylar knew about him, that probably wasn't good. Last Skylar knew, Mere had holed herself up in some motel and didn't seem to want to be found, and now she hadn't seen Chloe in a while. Well, that was it. Someone was going to actually talk to her, damnit. Someone was going to talk about their feelings, not shut her out, and hopefully not explode and go insane and destroy the world. Why can't they have a stretch of time where NOTHING happens? It's always something, and it's hardly ever good.
After driving to the Van Warren home, Skylar walked up and knocked on Chloe's door.
Whatever Skylar was expecting to see when that door opened... it probably wasn't the sight that greeted her: Chloe, hair and makeup done up like she was about to have a photoshoot done, and wearing a short, tight Gucci mini with matching blouse. That old grin was back on her face, and she looked, well... NORMAL.
"Hey sweetie! C'mon in! What's up?"
Skylar blinked. Yeah...not what she was expecting. "Hey...hadn't seen you in a little while, figured I'd come and check on you. What's up?"
"I'm trying to... just be ME. I'm not gonna sit here and ruin myself." Chloe, while bubbly, hyper, and occasionally ditzy, was actually wiser than people gave her credit for. "Lucy would be pissed if I kept sitting around crying over her every day. Especially if doing so ruined my makeup."
Skylar smiled. "Yeah, she would," she agreed. "Now we just need to spread that message around to everyone, you know?" She looked a little past the doorway. "Can I come in?"
"Of course! Since when do ya need an invite, ya goober?" She stepped aside, to let her friend enter. "I gotta check on Ash soon though. I know he's trying to be all alone now but... I know what his plans for Lucy were. He was gonna be my brother-in-law one day. So... to me? He's family."
Skylar nodded. "I was sort of wondering about him myself." Skylar didn't really know Ash, but she knew what he was capable of, which worried her enough as it was. "Have you heard from Meredith recently, either? I can't get in touch with her as well."
"Last I heard, she tried to get him to talk to her, got pushed away, and now she's hiding somewhere." Did Skylar hear a hint of wariness in there? Mistrust maybe? "Anyway... There's, um... something I kindasorta need to talk to you about anyway."
"Sure," Skylar said, actually catching some of that wariness. She wasn't sure what that was about, but OK. "What's on your mind?"
"So. You, um... You heard about my little magic mishap? And HAH HAH! About the cute lil thang that's staying with Mere right now cuz of it?" Uh-oh. That voice. Crazy!Chloe only came when she was afraid you were gonna be pissed.
Skylar narrowed her eyes at Chloe. "Yes, I heard about that. I heard all about that." Who hadn't heard about it by this point. "I'm guessing there's more to it than just the one girl, isn't it?"
"It's kinda funny really!" Ut-oh. The panic was really kind of cute... when you weren't worried about WHY. "Got to talk to her. Cute kid. Kinda scary but cute... Hehe and um... So how about BUFFY & KEVIN'S DAUGHTER came back with her, huh? Is that neat or what and oh yeah you and Ben might kinda sorta have a teenaged son running around now too and have I MENTIONED how much I love your hair today?"
Skylar wasn't sure if she should strangle Chloe or not. "Why won't my kids stay in the damn future where they belong?" she muttered. "Does this one hate me, too?" She might actually get upset and start thinking that she's a bad mother at some point if that kept up. Skylar's hand absently rested on her stomach. She had actually just went to the doctor and had it confirmed. Yep, she was pregnant. She wondered if this boy running around now would be the baby that would be born.
"Well hey!" Oh! OH was Chloe grasping at this as a 'please don't kill me' moment. "From what Courtney told me he's completely proud of you guys on an almost obnoxious level! SO GO YOU GUYS, HUH??? Woo! Awesome parents!"
That actually elicited a small smile from Skylar. She couldn't help it. At least ONE of her children liked her, after all. "I bet he'll be just like Ben, too. Well, I hope in more the good ways than the bad, but I suppose I couldn't really hold it against him if he did have that wandering eye, either." She looked back at Chloe. "I think I'm pregnant with him now, actually."
"All I know is Courtney said he's paying for them all to stay at the Hilton right now, he's slept with an obscene amount of women, and he's a 'douchebag', in her words." She couldn't help it here... it just slipped out! "Sounds like a chip off the old block!"
Skylar snorted. "Then he's definitely a child of Ben," she said with a small laugh. Really, did she expect anything less? Strangely, it didn't really bother her, though. At least he liked her. She couldn't help but be glad about that.
"And...." Because really, Chloe liked Patience a LOT, but she knew Skylar couldn't stand the girl, and would find this infinitely amusing. "Apparently? The McConnells have a daughter. Who is sweet, polite, cheerful, and respectful of everyone."
Well, the feeling was mutual between Patience and Skylar. It just couldn't be helped at this point. "Then she obviously picked up her manners more from Pat than from Patience," Skylar simply said. No matter how much you disliked someone, you didn't go to their band's show wearing shirts like they had done.
"Hee. I know, right? And... I'm thinking about asking Courtney to move in with us. I mean, right now she's staying with Mere and Jack... but if she either gets stuck here, or decides to stay? She should be with family." Chloe nodded, but it wasn't hard to figure out her thinking: the girl was part of Lucy, in some weird, time-displaced way.
"I'm sure that Courtney would like that," Skylar said to her. She wondered how much longer her errant son would stay at a hotel, anyway. Maybe he should be with family as well. Besides, it would be amusing to see Ben freak out over having his son from the future around. Maybe now he could really understand what it was like having Bella and, before her, Ami around. "So, do you have any children running around from the future as well? "
"Nope. Which means either me and Nica are still together and just never adopted, or I'm the single old spinster I always feared I'd be. One way or the other, I didn't ask. I like surprises." Well, clearly this future wasn't definite anyway, but... God bless her, Chloe seemed beyond that now.
"At least some of us still have a few surprises in our future then," Skylar said to her with a smirk. Of course, with things seemingly changing, who knew what the future really held for any of them?
Only thing I know about myself in their time? Apparently The Shack is a franchise now. How FREAKIN' SWEET is that???" Again, God bless her. To Chloe? That was the equivalent of finding out you have three beautiful kids.
"That does sound pretty awesome, actually," Skylar said to her. "I'm glad that I know I can get a Sugar Fairy no matter where I go in the future."
"Courtney isn't very fun though." She pouted, that lower lip jutting out cutely. "She looks SO much like Lucy, but she's nothing like her. Although apparently Kevin's daughter is EXACTLY like me."
"I'm guessing that Courtney takes a lot after Ash then," Skylar surmised. "And I'm not so shocked to hear that Kevin's daughter is another Van Warren girl made over, actually."
"She's... I mean..." Then Chloe just deflated, and while not intentional? It was TOO cute. "She's freakin' CREEPY, Skylar! She can't be right in the head!"
"I don't think it's quite that bad," Skylar said. Then again, she had never met the girl, either, so she really didn't know. "Not everyone can be the bright ray of sunshine, you know?"
"She talks like a robot." Chloe sighed, almost stomping her foot. "And when I asked if she's dealing with the news of Lucy alright? She said 'life is pain, Aunt Chloe'. SHE ACTUALLY SAID THOSE WORDS."
Skylar made a face. "OK, that is a little weird," she admitted to Chloe. "Maybe you can be a good influence on her right now, though."
"I can hope. It's so weird though... I look at her, and it's like looking at Lucy." Chloe started to tear up a little, but not necessarily in a bad way. "They aren't identical or anything, but they have that same porcelain skin, those same big, beautiful eyes..."
Skylar nodded, patting Chloe on the shoulder. "I'm sure that it's very easy to see Lucy when you look at her." Of course, that might drive the girl crazy one day, knowing that, whenever someone looked at her, they saw her dead mother.
Chloe nodded, saying her next words in that hilariously matter-of-fact, cheerful voice she was known for. "Well, also, Lucy could never choke people to death using magic. Not that I think she woulda if she coulda? But yeah. Courtney can. And I think would. Actually if I had annoyed her much more I think she mighta done it to ME."
"I doubt she would have done it to you," Skylar tried to reassure her. "However, let's try not to chance it, just in case, shall we?" Really, this girl did sound pretty scary. However, she was still a child of Lucy, which meant that good had to be in there somewhere, right?
"So, anyway. Yeah. About Brayden. Cuz, you know, that's apparently his name. Don't kill me?" Chloe gave her sweetest grin.
"Guess I'll have to at least try not to kill you. I don't want to have to replace another original member of the band," Skylar said to her. "Just, if he wants to go back, please try to find a way." Hopefully with help this time.
