Finally Making Up
Who: Lilly and Paige
Where: Memorial Park
When: Sunday Afternoon, Feb. 21
"This was a bad idea." That thought went through Paige's head at elast 20, maybe 30 times in the last ten minutes as she sat on a bench near Memorial Park. She'd called Lilly, leaving a stupid message begging the girl to come talk to her. She'd sent a christmas card to her through the annoyingly perky dhampir the drummer was seeing, and now she was begging on an answering machine? Damn. Best friend or not, this was it. If Lilly didn't show now? Paige would move on. She didn't demean herself for anyone. Sticking a cigarette between her lips, she crossed her legs, leaning back and staring at the afternoon sun.
Lilly debated not showing up. Actually, she did more than merely debate it. She pretty much had decided to not show up. She had even heard that Paige had gotten into another band, actually playing back up to another girl guitarist, which was amusing at least. Lilly only hoped that Paige didn't kill the girl in order to take lead or something. The old Paige might have done it, after all. Still, somehow, before she even realized what she was doing, she was putting on her jacket and going to the damn park. Really, why was she doing this again? After a while, she was walking down the park sidewalks to the bench that Paige had described in her message.
Well. Son of a bitch. Paige grinned as she looked to the righ and actually saw the brunette drummer walking towards her. Giving that annoying smile that you never could differentiate between snarky or sincere, she opened her arms as she stood. "Lil. We're gonna talk this out, I promise. For now? Gimme a hug, bitch."
Lilly stared at her for a moment. "You do remember how you tried to kill me once, right?" she asked in response to the other girl asking for a hug. Damn her for holding a grudge about that, huh?
"Yeah. And that was two forms of me ago. This is new, nice me. I'm all saving people and shit. Now shut up and hug me." Damn it, now... she was giving Lilly that stupid smile that somehow, in a totally platonic way, always made the girl melt a little. Even as Terminator as she could be.
She rolled her eyes, but quickly hugged her just the same. Stupid smile. "So, you wanted to meet so we can talk. Well, this time I'm not holding a gun to your head, so go ahead and talk."
Paige sat down, patting the seat next to her. "I coulda just led you here with a path of nickels or something, but I didn't." Ouch. A Jewish joke already! Paige was clearly feeling playful. "Look. I'm sorry, ok? I was a shitty human being, and frankly, a shittier vampire. But I'm not EITHER now, ok? Whatever the hell I am... I'm trying to be better. To make things up to the people I hurt. And I miss you."
"You was a shitty vampire," Lilly pointed out. Lilly was actually used to the Jewish jokes by now, so she didn't even bat an eye. "I miss you, too, Paige, but something like that kind of takes time to get over, you know? You literally can't just pop up on someone's doorstep, especially when they think you're dead."
"That was weeks ago, man!" She laughed, like that should just make it all ok. "Look, it was a different me, ok? It sounds stupid, it IS stupid, but I'm trying to be a better person now, or some shit. I even pal around with WILSON now, for shit's sake, Lil!"
"Which, by the way, I still don't get," Lilly pointed out. "You go from getting your lights punched out by her to being her protector. I've got to admit, that's weird, but kind of encouraging, I guess."
"Because I... kinda have to protect the people I fucked with in life. It's a shitty job, but you know what? We ended up getting along, oddly enough. I guess if anyones willing to accept that someone can change, it's her, hm?" She puffed at the cig, laughing.
"I suppose that's true," Lilly admitted. She was actually surprised to hear how well Lexi was holding up after the death of Lucy Van Warren. Not that she was great or anything. Just that she wasn't trying to kill herself with drugs was pretty impressive.
"I won't let her fall, Lil. If I have to, I'll beat the sense into her. If she ruins herself now, she'll be taking Ginny with her. And I ain't gonna allow that. No fucking way." She had to admit... it felt good, talking to Lil again. She'd almost forgotten how radiant the other girl was.
"Well, I don't think you'll have to beat the sense into her, for what that's worth," Lilly said to her. It actually was nice talking with Paige again, whether she'd admit to that or not.
"I need you to know, Lil... I'm different now. I want to be... good now. Not just to you. In general. I'm tired of being the bitch." Again. Only PAIGE could be better off as a demon than a human being.
"You would become a better person after dying and being raised as a demon, wouldn't you?" Lilly pointed out.
"Ain't that shit the funniest?" The raven-haired guitarist said with a snicker. "I really musta been a piece of SHIT, man."
"You were pretty bad," Lilly said. Coming from Lilly, that was basically saying that she was a psycho hose beast, after all. "Still, you seem to have actually improved, so I guess I'll take everyone's word on it finally."
"Lil... I made a lot of mistakes in my life. Some... I'll never get to make up for." She was SOOOO not getting into that. Not after seeing Lil finally at least TRYING to be happy. "But some of them, I *can* make up for. And by giving me another chance... by being my best friend again... you can help me with that."
"Well, I'm willing to give you another chance now," Lilly said to her. "At first I wasn't really able to, you know, because everything was still so fresh in my mind." She could still taste the fear of having a vampiric Paige in her apartment, after all. "I can do it now, though."
"Hey. What's a little attempted murder between friends, right?" She joked, giving an apologetic wince. "If it helps like... at ALL... I was gonna turn you so we'd be together forever..."
"I actually don't know if that helps or not," she said. Lilly also had no idea if she was serious or was trying to make another joke, so just decided to let it slide.
"So... tell me about the munchkin. She really makin' you happy? Hell... I never even knew you didn't drive stick, girl." She smirked, crossing her arms over her breasts.
"I think I shocked everyone by that revelation," Lilly pointed out. "Do you think my Jewish parents liked it when I told them? Kind of why I basically don't tell anyone these days unless it comes up." She got along with her parents fine now, but it hadn't been pleasant at the time. "We're actually doing good, yeah. I'm happy." Well, a lot happier than she was before.
"Good. She seems like a nice girl. Little skittish for someone with THAT MUCH power..." She wondered, briefly, if Lilly had any CLUE just how much power that little spaz really had inside her.
Lilly had never really had to see Stephanie go to town on anyone or anything like that, so, honestly, no she didn't. "Well, she's still young, remember?" In California, she was young enough to be considered jail bait, but that was only because their age of consent was technically 18. Lameasses.
"Heh. With the stuff that girl's got in her? Trust me. The day she realizes what she can do, you may never walk again. And I mean that in the hottest way possible." She snickered, only a sliiight tinge of resentment there, that wasnt even detectible.
Lilly just laughed. If Stephanie had a penis, then she might be worried. However, if Stephanie had a penis, well, she might be worried, anyway. "I know you do."
"Heh. I missed this. Hanging out. Chatting. And just because I'm being nice now doesn't mean I wont still fuck with you. Like that time I replaced your menorah with a Mr. T action figure."
"Which was actually kind of funny," Lilly admitted. "Besides, you did give the damn thing back, after all. It's not like you trashed it or anything." Like she had thought of doing to that damn action figure.
"I pity the foo' that mess with my Jewish holidays!" Paige blurted out in her best (but not very good) Mr. T impression, before cracking up laughing. "Ahhhhhh shit. That was good stuff."
Lilly started laughing, too. Hell, around Paige, she was actually far less robotic than most people would ever expect her to be. It was the same way around Stephanie, after all. "That was good stuff," she agreed.
"Your mom thought I was the worst influence on you...." She thought about it, then sighed dramatically. "Actually... she was probably right."
"Well, duh," Lilly pointed out. "My mother wanted the perfect little Jewish princess." She started laughing again. "Instead she got the Terminatrix."
"I think she stopped liking me the day I suggested you get some ninja stars that looked like the Star of David." Paige mused with a laugh. "I swear to this day I wasn't trying to be offensive. I thought it would be bad-ass!"
"Well, that is a good way to offend more observant Jews than I," Lilly said. Lilly was more of a Hanukkah and Passover Jew than anything, you know, like an Christmas/Easter Christian?
"I think she took it less hard once she saw me mock Janice Brown for her Catholic upbringing, too. She saw that I wasn't anti-Jewish... I was just an asshole." Paige smirked, giving an innocent shrug.
"That actually did help a little bit," Lilly said. "I think she feared that I was hanging out with an anti-Semite or something." Not that her mother had ever had much love for Paige, but that had lessened the hate a bit.
"Didn't hurt that I think your dad liked when I came over. Especially when I wore those shorts." And before she could say ANYTHING, "Don't even fucking deny it, Maymin, your dad likd my ass. And I don't blame him. It's a really great ass."
"It is a great ass but that didn't make it any less creepy," Lilly pointed out to. Lilly's father was hitting his mid-life crisis just as Lilly hit her teens. Yeah that had been fun.
"Yeah. Shame you never noticed it THEN, dumbass." She grumbled good-naturedly. "If I knew you liked chicks, I woulda made a move AGES ago. Bah."
Lilly rolled her eyes. "You could have always asked you know." It was actually sad that she had kept it from everyone like she had for so long. Her coming out to her mother had just gone so bad that she didn't feel the need to redo it again for a while.
"Like I was gonna risk our friendship over it. PLEASE. I wasn't even sure if I LIKED girls." Paige rolled her eyes, even now more... curious than actually bi. "I just knew I liked YOU."
Lilly simply shrugged. What was there to say about it? If Paige had ever said something to her, Lilly would have jumped at the chance. It was part of why it had taken her so long to forgive Paige for everything. Everything had hurt all the more because of her own feelings. "Well I guess past is past though. Just wish you would have said something is all."
"Well... Trust me. Its for the better now. If you saw what I REALLY look like..." She gave a wicked smile and winked. "You'd be terrified. Trust me."
Lilly smiled at her. "Well, it's not like I'm not already dating someone supernatural, but I guess I'll take your word on it." Stephanie had described Paige to her once in her demonic form. Still, Lilly couldn't help but think that, if they had been together, maybe none of this would have happened.
"Hey now..." Ugh. Paige regretted saying anything when she saw the disappointment in Lilly's eyes. Damnit. "No pouting. You got yourself a looker. Besides: I can tear a bitch apart with my teeth like a damn piranha now. Not a nice thing to watch."
"No, it doesn't sound like a nice thing to watch," Lilly agreed. Of course, she doubted that Paige would be doing that too much in front of her anyways.
"So... in spite of mixed signals, me being a total bitch, and now me having died twice and being a friendly shark... we cool again?" She asked with a snicker. "Because... against my better judgment, I'm gonna be in a band again. And I'm terrified of becoming a psycho bitch again. And the girl that practically begged me to be in her band... I kinda told her if I go downhill to call you. Because you can send your little dhampir to kill me."
"Yes, we're cool again," Lilly said to her. The next thing she said sort of amused her. "I actually heard about you joining a band, although I did not hear about the part where you made the girl promise to call me to sic Stephanie on you if you go crazy again." Everyone in the LA music scene had heard about Darlene Southland, and knew that she was always three sheets to the wind and batshit insane. So...Paige knew how to pick them, obviously. "So, why join a band with Darlene Southland of all people?"
"I feel for her. She's talented, but she's had a rough life. And she's a better person than people think. She just... doesn't get to show it often." Aw. Was Paige developing an almost maternal instinct toward the messed up gal? "I think I can really help her."
"Well, I once saw her smash a beer bottle on some guy's head," Lilly said to her. "She is talented, though, I'll give her that." Darlene had also just come off as kind of insane to most others out there. "If you can help her, more power to you."
"Trust me. I let her spend Christmas at my place, Lil. She's... a lost soul. But a decent girl's in there." Was this really Paige? The same girl who made fun of a recovering addict onstage?
Lilly nodded. It was kind of weird to hear Paige talking about someone like this, but it was a good kind of weird. "Well, then maybe you can help her out then."
"For once, maybe I can help SOMEONE. I don't wanna hurt people anymore." Then she grinned again. "Unless they deserve it."
"Well, as long as you keep your definition of 'deserving it' away from me, I think we'll stay cool," Lilly joked.
