So...Surprise!
Who: Skylar and Ben
Where: Saints and Sinners
When: Saturday Night, Feb. 20
This last week or so had been rough on everyone. Death, torment, anguish... all of it coming far too hard on far too many undeserving people. So... Benjamin Bale decided to deal with it in the best way he could think of: forgetting it for a night. And really... what helps a guy forget about turmoil more than gorgeous strippers? Exactly. Nothing. So he sat at his personal table at Saints & Sinners, sipping at a scotch on the rocks, just trying to relax.
If it weren't for him being with Skylar, he'd probably be drowning himself in orgies as well, but he could get all that he wanted of that with her at home. Well, not orgies specifically, but all the sex he could handle. Still, she knew what he was trying to do. She merely sat with him and watched as the dancers writhed on stage, sipping at a soda. "It's not working is it?" she asked about his efforts to forget life for a night. It wasn't working for her, at any rate.
"No. It's not." He tilted his head lightly, smirking a little. "Damn. Although sometimes.... Eve and Deanna can sure make a damn good try of it." He wrapped an arm around Skylar, lowering his voice. "Maybe I *am* the rotten person everyone thinks I am. Chloe just lost her sister... and the thing I'M most upset over is that I just lost one of the most touted acts on my label."
Skylar shook her head, but said anyway, "Well, it's not like you actually knew her very well, anyway," with a sigh. One thing she could always depend on was that Ben would always be BEN, no matter the situation. "At least you realize it makes you a bad person." She said that with a smile, though.
"Yeah. Kevin already told me the band is dead. Right before hanging up on me." It occurred to Ben that hey... maybe it had been a tad too soon to ask the guy that question. Tact? Never Ben's strong point. "So... between that debacle, three new family members popping up, and Neely suddenly being all skittish and not returning my phone calls.... it's not been a great week."
Well, she knew why Neely wasn't returning phone calls, at least. "Neely's not hiding a bad thing," she said to him. "She asked Rachelle to marry her, and I think she's a little freak out about what you might say." No one had told her it was a secret. Or had they? She couldn't remember anymore. Well, it wasn't a secret now, was it, bitches? "And calling Kevin a week after the funeral was a bad idea and you know it."
He ignored the Kevin comment for now. Not to be a jerk... but because he couldn't get over the FIRST part of her comment. "Wait. N-Neely? Bennett Neely Bale. Blonde. About yay high. Loves women possibly more than *I* do."
Skylar nodded. "Yeah, Rachelle told me right after it happened," she told him. "I know, I was shocked, too. So was Rachelle, for that matter. She was kind of worried that it was some sort of shock response after the funeral."
"Jesus." He blinked, looking shell shocked. "She had to be in shock or something. I mean.... NEELY?" He shook his head. "Christ. She better not hurt that girl again,"
"I actually don't think it's just a shock thing," Skylar said to him. "Well, I certainly hope it isn't, anyway. Rachelle actually told her that she could take it back if in a few days she realized that it was just a freak out thing. Still, I haven't been told that she has, so I don't think she has done so."
"That's.... great! And vaguely hilarious all at once." He grinned, trying not to laugh.
"It is a little amusing," she said to him. "At least someone had something good happen to them during all of this." It seemed insane what was going on lately.
"NEELY!" He repeated, as if in shock. Which was kind of funny coming from HIM of all people. "I mean... oh man. I can't say anything to her. I gotta let her tell me when she's ready."
"Yes, exactly, so don't go blabbing this to everyone else in the family, either," she pointed out to him. Really, maybe she shouldn't have told him, but it was done. No taking it back now.
"I won't say a word. Jeez. This is... I just can't believe it. I took the girl to her first all-nude strip club!" Yeah. Sadly, to Ben? This was nostalgia.
"Then now you can take her again for her bachelorette party," Skylar said to him. "Simple as that." Wasn't she supposed to be planning his bachelor party, anyways?
"Maybe we should just have a joint one... not like we don't love the same shit..." He considered that... since Meredith was going to help the girl plan the party to begin with... "Nah. She deserves one of her very own."
"You both deserve one of your own. You get to have one last night of debauchery before you have to hang up your deviant little ways and become a boring old husband," she said playfully.
"So, when we say debauchery...." he trailed off with a big grin, as if teasingly asking her HOW raunchy his night was allowed to be...
She laughed. "Don't get carried away," she said to him. Still, if she heard about him making out with a stripper, she wouldn't be TOO bothered by it. Just nothing more than kissing, though.
"So.... when we say 'don't get carried away'...." ok, NOW he was clearly teasing, especially knowing what he now knew about a certain OTHER bachelor party Skylar had been involved with...
She laughed and swatted at him. "Don't do what I did for Pat's bachelor party, OK?" Because that had ended so well for, well, any of them, actually.
"No fear. I have no plans of having sex with Patrick." He said with a straight face, nodding.
"Well, goodness, I hope not. Patience would get pissed," Skylar said right back with an equally straight face.
"Like the woman needs another reason to hate me." Ben said, trying not to laugh. "Especially now that she and Iris have become like a miniature Thelma and Louise."
That elicited a snort from Skylar. "Of course they would pair up," she said, flipping her hair over her shoulders. Really, it would have been more shocking to Skylar if they hadn't become friends, after all.
"We should get them official "I Hate Skylar" t-shirts for their little club. It'd be cute." He said with a low laugh then, thanking the heavens she was around to cheer him up like this.
"Well, they already had 'Team Morrison' shirts, so why not?" Skylar asked him with a slight laugh. At least she was able to joke about it now. At the time, she had been livid.
"See? Head start and everything." Then, because he IS still Ben... "God would it be hot if those two hooked up."
"Oh good lord," Skylar said with a slight huff. "Good looks don't make up for idiocy, Ben."
"Psh. Like if you didn't have such a hate-on for Patience YOU wouldn't find her hot." Game point? Served.
"Maybe, but she has that 'hate-on' right back, and you and I both know that it's not just because of Gwen," Skylar pointed out. She had the feeling that Patience held it somewhat against her for having Pat's first kid as well.
"Well GEE. It could have something to do with you being the 'baby-daddy' to her husband's child... that COULD have something to do with it..." He snickered, rolling his eyes. "Figures a Roth fan would do something like that..."
"I'm the 'baby momma' Ben. Pat's the 'baby daddy,'" Skylar pointed out. "And you're right, but that's something that can't be fixed." Not that she would fix it, because she loved Bella dearly. "And you're never going to let that go, are you?"
"Goddammit. You knew what I meant. And I wish I *could* let it go." He actually got slightly serious again for a minute. "That night I came to see you with the baby for the first time was the worst night of my life. Even over that night I almost got killed."
She laughed at him before turning serious with him, leaning against him for a moment. "Why was it so bad?" she asked him. She wasn't sure that she understood it, so might as well ask.
He actually held her tightly as he answered, sadly... like he was afraid she'd slip away like a dream. "Because it all hit home then. You were HIS. You were never going to be mine. He'd... done things to you that I had only fantasized about, and it was like someone shoving it in my face, over and over."
"Thing is, you actually have done everything that he has now," Skylar said to him. Technically she had wanted to wait until after her doctor's appointment next week, but, well, at this point she knew what the symptoms and everything were, after all.
Now keep in mind that this was Ben. His mind was perpetually in the gutter. So his thoughts? Didn't exactly head straight there. "You guys really never got that freaky? I mean, I figured with all the threesomes and everything..."
She rolled her eyes. "Do I really have to spell out for you why I haven't had an alcoholic drink in the past month, Ben?" Actually, the thought of alcohol made her stomach roll in ways she didn't want to think of, which was what first made her think to buy a test.
"You...." Oh, fuck all. First the news about Neely, now this? Ben, for a brief moment, actually thought me might faint. "You mean..." At a loss for words, he actually used his hands to mimic a pregnant belly.
"For someone so charismatic and good with words, you are hilarious when you're speechless," Skylar pointed out. "Yeah, I'm..." She mimicked the same pose that he did.
"I'm.... gonna be a father." He said, seemingly more for his benefit than anything.
"Yeah, you are," she said, trying to reinforce it. She knew it had to be a shock for him, especially for a guy whom, until recently, had probably thought that he'd only be having 'baby mommas' and not a wife with his children.
"My first child..." he said proudly, before actually muttering, "...that I know of...." then shook his head. And again, because we have to remember who we're talking about here... "So... how long do we have before I can't plow you anymore? Because if the clock's ticking, I'm makin' every minute count."
"Ugh, I hope that you don't have any illegitimate children running around out there," Skylar muttered. "And...I actually don't remember. I'll have to ask." A part of her thought that they could have sex right up until the baby was born, but that couldn't be right. Besides, she would be HUGE at that point, so who knew if he would want to.
"Please do." He said, actually looking a little comically worried there. "Because frankly, I don't care if you're as big as a house, if I gotta go very long without sexin' you up.... I could very well have a minor meltdown."
Skylar rolled her eyes. "Well, I'm glad that you won't be freaked out when I get bigger," she admitted with a grin, though. At least she had that going for her. "And I didn't get that big last time, so there's at least hope for that."
"I never noticed." He said sweetly, reaching over to touch her cheek. "Even those last couple weeks... all I ever saw was the most gorgeous woman God ever put on this earth."
She smiled at him. Sadly for him, he was actually telling the truth. Still, she hoped for her own sanity's sake that this pregnancy went better than the last. She did not want to go through postpartum depression again. At least now they would know to look for it, though.
"You know... I wondered if once we got together, once we LIVED together... if I'd love you as much as I did when I thought I'd never have you." He said, just being completely honest. "Because you know me. And how my attention wanes. But I gotta admit. I don't love you as much. I didn't think it was possible... but I love you MORE."
"Well, good, because now you're stuck with me," Skylar pointed out to him with a laugh. "And I love you, too." Was there a way for her to love him more now? She really wasn't sure at this point about that.
"Hey..." Because it's Ben, he his own ideas for celebration. "Remember that time we went to that niiiiice restaurant a few months back?" He grinned.
"Yes, I do, right after we had that especially fun night in Avarice," she said back to him. "Why do you ask?"
"Because while you might not be an actress....." He winked at her. "I was wondering if we could have a repeat performance."
"I think that something like that can be arranged," she said with a grin to him.
