Who: Neely and Rachelle
Where: Their apartment – above Avarice
When: Friday, February 19th
Neely was sitting at the dining table in their apartment, she’d been there for most of the day, having taken her work home with her. She could be accused of not doing her work, but … she was. She just couldn’t stand to be away from home right now. She had promotional posters scattered all over the table, along with flyers, questionaries and concept sketches, and a book for each band signed to Ben’s label, along with names and dates. Each band had an album coming out soon, which meant… press. So, she was trying to figure out who took precedence. Although, it didn’t help when she came to a book with Meeghan’s name on it.
Rachelle had been out buying a few new supplies for her bass, such as new picks, some durable cables, and new strings. She gave a silly, proud grin when she walked in and saw Neely working so hard... until she saw what she was focused on. This time? Instead of anger, she felt BAD. She'd cost her fiancé a close friend, and really... she guessed now was the time to tell her what had happened.
"Hey babe... Workin' hard?"
The blonde set the book down and smiled warmly at Rachelle, before tugging the redhead into her lap. "You know it," she murmured, "‘Course now you’re here..." she nipped at her shoulder, before eyeing the bag Rachelle had come in with. "Did you buy me something?" Yep, this was Neely trying not to dwell. How was she doing so far?
"Well... no. But I did *do* something for you. Something that didn't quite turn out how I was hoping." She winced with an apologetic sigh, sticking her hands nervously into the pockets of her jeans.
Neely raised that eyebrow of hers curiously, and leaned back a little in her seat to look at Rachelle’s face. She looked... guilty about something. "What did you do?"
"I apologized to Meeghan. Like I told you I was gonna."
Now? The hard part.
"It... went WAY worse than I was hoping. The only GOOD thing that came out of it is that she's not leaving the label and not pressing charges."
"Oh," Neely murmured. She looked at the book on the table, and then nodded slowly. She didn’t really know what to say after that, beyond: "It’s good she’s not pressing charges."
"Ok. PLEASE don't get mad at me. I tried. But... She said she never wants to see EITHER of us again. Honey..." Rachelle had never looked more sincerely SORRY in her life. "I swear I wanted you to be able to try being just friends with her..."
Neely, for what it was worth, wasn’t mad with Rachelle, although that didn’t stop her from standing up, taking the redhead with her, and moving across the room silently.
"Hoo boy. Ok. You're mad." Chelle was fidgeting now, ready to cry. God, she'd never been this emotional... was being engaged fucking with her this bad? "You... You don't hate me now do you?"
"I don’t hate you, Rachelle," Neely murmured, pacing around irritably. She wanted to cry, rage, hit something... but instead she paced, working herself up.
"I'm sorry, Neely... I ruined everything. I got so mad that you... you KISSED her... that I went and did something stupid and now I cost you a friend and I wonder if I wouldn't be better off OUT of your life before I ruin it MORE..." Ok, so she was babble!rambling. It happens, even to the most usually cool and calm of them.
"I don’t want you out of my life, 'Chelle. Don’t ever say that," Neely snapped, dragging her fingers through her hair. She sighed, "Look, I’m not mad at you. I’m just..." She growled and pressed her forehead against the wall.
"Talk to me, Neels... Please... Honey, I'm SORRY..." Somehow, Chelle had begun feeling like SHE was the one who'd done something wrong. How fucked up was THAT?
"I’m just upset that I did something that resulted in me losing a friend... and she was a friend. I don’t make them very often, y'know? But I don’t blame you for doing what you did, and thank you for trying to talk to her." She was starting to calm down, although her face was still flush with distress.
"If... If it helps at all? You mighta lost a friend, but you'll make others. Meanwhile... you're gaining a WIFE." She said with that lazy little grin she knew melted Neely's heart every time.
...Yeah, it was hard to stay upset when that grin appeared, and Rachelle knew it. Neely smiled and sighed, "At least I can honestly say that something good came out of this mess."
"I promise you. You'll make more friends. Ones that will stick by you." Ok, so maybe she was feeling stronger now. But dammit, she KNEW she was right this time. "Because let me tell you... she has every right to be pissed at ME. But you never sent me after her. You did nothing but care about her. For her to take this out on YOU? Fuck her, man. She had no right, if she really cared about you at all."
"You've got a way with words, Martin," Neely remarked. She sighed and sat down again, dragging her fingers through her hair. "How... Do you make friends? Guys, I get. Girls ... I usually just sleep with."
"Dude!" Rachelle laughed as she playfully slapped Neely in the shoulder. "Ya don't DO that anymore, remember? So now ya just... make conversation. Think about how you get along with Meredith. Hell, how you get along with BAILY. And just... try to find those kind of connections with other people, ya dipshit!" She snorted, trying not to break into massive giggles.
"Well, y'know. I never really tried making a girl ... friend before, don't make fun!" Neely blushed.
"Well? It'll be a new experience for ya. TALKING to a girl, with motives other than cunnilingus." Chelle said with a snort and a roll of her eyes. "Seriously, girl. Damn!"
"Hey, what'd I'd just say?" Neely laugh, tickling Rachelle's ribs.
"But..." Chelle grinned evilly; just glad her words about being given up so easily seemed to get through a bit. "It's so fuuuuun..." Then she squealed, HATING being tickled. "Oh man... keep that shit up and werewolf or NOT, I will whoop the FUCK outta you, girl..." She did her best scowl, holding her fists up in some mock UFC pose.
Yeeeah, trouble there? It just egged Neely on. She pulled Rachelle on top of her again and tickled furiously, but stopped after a while, biting Rachelle's shoulder sweetly. "Like you'd ever do that," she teased.
"Ok, so... I wouldn't. BUT!" Oh yes, she had a secret weapon. "I could lay down a no-inappropriate-touching-for-one-whole-w
"You wouldn’t..." Neely narrowed her eyes, and then gave Rachelle her infamous smirk, "Besides, you couldn't suffer a week without my inappropriate touching..."
"Ok, a mildly, MILDLY valid point..." Oh, did she want to make a joke about having one 'get out of jail free' card since the Meeghan incident, but... nah. "Ok, ok... fine." She snickered there, just walking over and hugging the blonde. "So seriously. What exactly are you working on?"
"Ah, press stuff. Very exciting. Seems everyone's recording, or about to record. Plus, I have to put those little books together about the bands... Good times," she grinned. "Any plans for the weekend, babe?"
"Practice. We're... trying to get Chloe to work on a couple songs, get her mind off of everything. Dunno if it'll work though." She sighed, shaking her head. "You wanna make a friend? Try her. God knows she needs them right now."
"She's a cool chick. You know I'd go to bat for her if it came to it, right?" She gave the redhead a squeeze.
"I know ya would. You're awesome like that: if someone’s important to me, it makes them important to you." She grinned, loving Neely's loyalty. "You just totally need more people to hang with. And... when are we, you know, breaking our news to your fam, by the way?"
"Oh! Uhm..." the blonde blushed. "I figure you would’ve told Skylar already, and she would’ve told Ben. So I’m expecting a reaming from him soon... but I... worry that they wouldn’t take it seriously." And she... might not want to talk to either of her brothers at the moment, as pouty as she was with them. "...Is that weird?"
"I told Skylar." She laughed, nodding. "But that's it. I know you wanna ask me again for some reason, so I figured I'd wait till that to go and tell all my friends." Aw. She'd never admit it but... Yeah. She was actually looking forward to that 'more romantic' asking that Neely had promised her. Yep... seemed there was a real GIRL in there somewhere after all...
Neely tried to keep a smile from breaking out, she really did... but she couldn’t help it. Damn it. "Kiiiiinda why I asked what you were doing this weekend," she murmured.
"Really?!?" Chelle blurted out before catching that rare display of enthusiasm... and blushing HARD. "Um. Yeah, dude. I... I got nothin' planned."
"You sure? It’s sort of an... all weekend thing I had planned." Damn, if Rachelle didn’t bring out the romantic side she didn’t even know she had.
"For you? More important, for US? Anything." Oh, how she was feeling absolutely giddy over this.
Neely grinned. Oh yes, clearly she had something incredibly sweet planned. "Thennn, you’ll need to pack a bag."
