One Pissed Off Mere, Coming Up
Who: Mere and Ben
Where: Avarice, Ben's Office
When: Feb. 10th, Night
It wasn't hard to get out of Ash's place. The slam to the floor wasn't pleasant, and neither was the broken nose that she earned out of it. Ash was just lucky that it would heal by the time she actually found someone to talk to, or he would have gotten the ass beating of his lifetime. Even though he was already going to get it for what he had done tonight. Right now she wanted to strangle the asshole. Instead, she rode over to Avarice and found Ben locked away in his office. Which didn't stay locked for long when Mere put her boot into the door and it burst open. She was really kicking in a lot of doors tonight, wasn't she. "We got a problem," Mere said, looking all business for once.
Ben just stared at her, sighing with a raised eyebrow. "You're just lucky I didn't have Skylar thrown up on the desk right now. So what obviously new drama do we have? Because inner-label fighting and one of my newest signees DYING obviously isn't enough."
"Figured she would be with Rachelle at the moment, or Chloe," Mere pointed out. Well, her logic WAS sound, at the moment. "No, it isn't enough. Now we have Lucy's boyfriend off on a warpath that, unfortunately, I don't think is going to stop with turning the bitch who did this inside out."
"Oh. Wonderful. Ash is crazymadbonkers again? Does anyone remember LAST time this happened? When it was just his SISTER that died?" Ben was slightly freaked, wondering why Mere didn't seem more, well, WORRIED. "How the hell do you think he's gonna react to the chick he was FUCKING getting killed?"
"Um...yeah, I was there, remember?" More so than Ben was, at any rate. "I got to see the whole fucking show, which is why I'm here. What are we going to DO about this, Ben? We can't just let him run around boiling over with magic. Fucker put me on the fucking ceiling to keep me from stopping him! How do we stop that?!"
"...shoot him in the head before he gets too powerful?" This was the worst part of Ben: the fact that while Skylar might be making him a better man... there was still the douchebag in him that MEANT things like this.
She glared at him. "You better have an option number two, or you ain't leaving this room with a working trigger finger," she said to him, also meaning every work. Soul be damned, they were NOT killing another person during all of this.
"Well. There's always singing kumbaya and having a campfire while he makes the fucking world burn..." He said with mock sincerity. "I know you care about him, Meredith. EVERYONE knows you care about him. But if it comes down to him or us? Sorry, girl... but he's GONE."
She rolled her eyes. "Do you want to remove another life from the planet right now after what's happened? I know I don't. Besides, you won't just have an angry me to deal with. You'll have more than a few other people as well, like, oh, his sister, Pat, Chloe, more than likely...that's like, half your label. Do you really want a few of us to find a different label to work with?" Oh yeah, she was going to try and save Ash's life by hitting Ben were it'll actually hurt: HIS POCKET BOOK! "I suggest you come up with another idea."
"Jesus Christ, Delany." Ben blinked at her, shaking his head. "If we're able to save him.... you better have a goddamn talk with Devon. And you know what I'm talking about." Which was his way, more or less, of saying he was willing to help.
"I'm doing this for his sake, nothing else," she pointed out to him. "There's nothing to talk to Devon about." Besides, even if she thought there might have been something there, well, his girlfriend dying on him probably killed any chance of that, anyway, didn't it?
"Right. Remember my two years of denial with Skylar?" He left it at that, though. This wasn't the time to push it. "Go talk to Patience and Pat. And Gwen, for that matter. If anyone has a chance at getting through to him, its probably one of them." He'd do it, but... face it. None of them were his biggest fans right now.
"No chance in hell, denial or not," she pointed out to him. "Lucy's on his fucking pedestal now, remember?" No...not bitter at all. Of course, before her death, Mere figured there was no real chance in hell, anyway. This just sort of cemented it. "I'll talk to them. See what they can do."
"Mere... for what it's worth..." He sighed, knowing how much the girl in question had meant to ALL of them on some level. "You all have my deepest, deepest condolences."
She nodded. "I know," she said to him. "Thank you. If you haven't yet, you should call Chloe, too. I know she'd appreciate hearing that. You *might* want to look in on your Uncle David, too, for that matter."
"Yeah. Do you KNOW Dave?" He chuckled sadly. "My guess is, right now he's got roughly 18 destroyed motorcycles and at least one wall to replace. Anyone who goes NEAR him right now might risking life and limb."
She nodded. "Still, at least a phone call wouldn't be remiss right now," she said to him. "Sorry about the lock on the door, by the way. I'm antsy tonight."
"Gee. Ex-boyfriend possibly about to destroy the world AGAIN. Can't imagine why you'd be antsy." He said with a roll of his eyes. "I'll talk to Rupert Giles. See if he knows how to reign his little pet monster in."
"Well, he left notes with the Watcher and Buffy about quitting, so, unless he knows how to suck magical energy out of someone, I doubt he'll be much help," Mere said to him.
"Fan-fucking-tastic." Ben said, leaning back in his chair. "Just.... go. Talk to the McConnells. See if they have any awesome ideas." He wasn't going to press this. Not with Meredith. But he knew... if it DID come down to the lives of Skylar and his family... or Ash's? He would do everything it took to end the young warlock's life.
"Alright," Mere said to him, turning to leave. What Ben may or may not realize is that, as much as he was willing to kill Ash, she was every bit as willing to prevent him from doing so. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to this.
