Shock and Surprise Who: Helen & Candice When: The night before Narcissa's death, right after this scene. Where: Helen's flat.
Dear sweet god... Candice never knew she could hurt as much as she did right now. She was beaten, bruised, and cut, and essentially? She'd been PWNED. The young Slayer had managed to get away from Frost, but was losing energy quickly. Luckily, not a second too soon, she'd arrived at Ms. Holt's shop, and leaned against the door... and in her attempt to knock, she panicked and broke the friggin' door down, falling in a bloody heap on the floor with a groan.
Helen woke from a sound sleep by the crash she heard below in her shop. Her heart leapt with trepidation, thinking someone had broken in down below to steal her books. Gulping, she slid out of bed, dressed in a very old fashioned and Victorian nightgown. Grabbing a baseball bat she had aquired by her bedroom door, she padded through her flat and down into her shop. Before turning on the lights, she raised the bat and her voice quavered as she declared, "I have acquired a bat and if you do not leave a immediately I do know how to use this contraption!"
"Y-Yeah, Helen... I'm sure y-you're a regular M-Mark McGuire..." Candice said, laying face-down on the floor, blood trickling steadily from her face and chest into a growing puddle on the floor.
Her brows knitted together in confusion, "Helen? What on Earth are yo--" She had turned on the lights at this point and bit back a scream of shock. The bat dully hit the floor with a wooden thunk and the Watcher made no move until there was a brief glow of light from her eyes and when she spoke next, the warped voice of Horus was heard, "Candice, where are you injured?" "Helen" hurried over, bending over the fallen Slayer.
Comically enough, Candice was still face down, more or less talking into the floor. "Pretty much everywhere, Helen." She knew she should call her Ms. Holt or something similar, but she was still struggling with the whole 'respect' thing. "I got the shit beaten out of me..."
Horus inquired again, "Where is the most serious injury, Candice? I need to tend to it before calling for medical assistance."
She rolled herself over, revealing long, deep gashes along her chest and face, and a horrible black eye. "Bitch tried to.. to rip my heart out, I think. Oh my god... it was so terrifying..."
Ripping sounds could be heard as Horus tore at Helen's nightgown and pressed the ripped material to what looked like the most serious of Candice's wounds. Taking one of her hands, he had her apply pressure, "I need to inform Isabella of what has happened." Standing, Helen was once again in control now that she'd gotten over her shock as she spoke into the phone a moment later.
Candice layed there, listening to Helen on the phone, and tried to get herself into a sitting position. Dammit, this all hurt.
Helen quickly returned to Candice's side, helping her up so that the Slayer's upper body was suppored by the Watcher's knees. "The paramedics are on their way, Candice." Helen spoke, softly, absently running her fingers through the girl's hair as if to calm her or herself.
Truth be told, Candice was fairly amazed that her watcher was this concerned. She thought that they annoyed each other pretty much to the point of wanting to beat each other. "It was that bitch the others talked about... Jack Frost."
There was a brief glow from Helen's eyes, as host and symbiote's anger flared. Helen calmed herself before saying anything, "Did she reveal or say anything to you?"
"Nothing that would... ow... tell us anything we didn't know." She hated to let her weakness show, but she couldn't help it. She just leaned against her Watcher, almost melting into her. "She was crazy as shit, and strong, too. Like, even compared to other vamps, she was wicked strong."
Worry creased her brow, and for a moment, Helen was silent, "This is very disconcerting." How were any of the Slayers supposed to dispatch of this one vampire, who appeared to be even stronger than the one who, for now, was controlling her?
"We gotta take her down, H- Ms. Holt." Candice was trying now... trying to be a little respectful, in return for the surprising help and mothering she was getting here. "I got lucky, I won't front. If I hadn't gotten in one lucky slash, I'd be all kinds of dead right now."
Helen heard sirens in the distance, "I know. And we will. Now, hush, foolish girl." She smiled at Helen, "The paramedics are almost here."
"Sorry, ya know... for being... a shitty Slayer and all..." now that she knew, despite the pain, she wasn't going to die... she felt embarrassment taking over.
"Hush, Candice. I would hardly call your run-in with Frost normal circumstances." Helen smiled again, stroking the girl's hair like any mother would, "I know you. You did your best."
"Just..." she felt the pain taking over, calling her into merciful sleep. "Tell 'em I was skateboardin'... and got hit by a car... or sumthin'..."
"Yes, of course." She reassured her Slayer, her lips trembling slightly as she fought back tears. The Watcher already had an explanation thought up that would explain the type of injuries her Slayer had received.
