No Title Will Suffice
Who: Mere and Ash
Where: Ash's Place
When: Wednesday, Feb. 10, Night
Mere drove her bike over to Ash's place when she heard the news. Everyone else had someone they could go to. Ash did not, at least, not anymore. Apparently he had found her tied to Kevin and...fuck, she didn't even want to think about it too much, really. She had also been given a note from Buffy that Ash had left her. So, and now burning bridges, too? Well, this was one bridge that Ash wasn't burning. Instead of knocking or even sneaking through the window when she was being playful, Mere just kicked the door in. "Ash! Don't fucking hide from me right now!"
Ash was sitting there, when she came in. He'd let all his tears out with his sister. For the time being? He was all calm rage. He was sitting over a small fire, heating a golden cross to mold the end into a blade. He had several sharp weapons surrounding him now, knives, swords, all with Christian symbols on or in them.
Mere looked at what he was doing, side stepping the crosses for obvious reason. "You want some help with the shit that I can actually touch?" she asked him. Was she going to stop him from killing whatever it was that did this to Lucy? Fuck no. Did she want to be there to try and bring him down afterward? Fuck yes.
"No. I want you to leave." Well. He'd NEVER kicked her out, even when he thought she was semi-evil. "Now." Short and sweet. As far as he was concerned? No attachments meant no more hurt.
"Too bad," she said. "You can't make me leave and you'll just have to suck it up." She knew what he was doing, and, well, fuck it. "I'm not leaving you, Ash. That's the LAST thing you need right now."
"You don't know what I need. What I need... I can't have. because I can't do it to my sister." Yeah... what he wanted? Was a bullet, right between his own eyes.
"Still not going anywhere." She had done that once to him, and she wasn't doing it again. "Don't have a fucking clue what you're going through right now. First to admit that. You still shouldn't be alone." For the one reason of what he wanted to do to himself, if nothing else.
"You don't have a choice here, Meredith. Not at all." He was done. Caring about people... letting himself be attached to people. "She's going to be destroyed... even if it means destroying what's left of ME."
"Still not leaving," Mere said to him. "So, you might as well get over it and cut me in. I'm not telling you to not kill whomever did this. Fuck, I want to HELP. I'll hold the bitch down while you cut out her eyeballs. Whatever you need. And we're NOT destroying what's left of you."
"What do I need to say, Meredith? Do I need to insult you? Tell you I don't care about you anymore? Hurt you somehow?" Sadly, he was ready to do it all.
"But you'll be lying," Mere pointed out. "Right now you are trying to shove people away so you don't get hurt, and, well, fuck you for trying, but I ain't going no where. So suck it the fuck up." This time she glared at him, rather menacingly, in fact. "Now, do you WANT me to tie you up so you can't do anything, or would you like to get on with this?"
"She cut her face off, Meredith." He hadn't told ANYONE this. He'd erased the memory from Kevin, fixed the evidence.... only he held that horriffic visage in his mind now. "CUT HER FUCKING FACE OFF. My Lucy."
She sighed and sat down beside him. "Then we can cut off the bitch's face, and then rub garlic into the wounds." Mere paused. "OK, you do the garlic rubbing, not me." She looked at him. "You fixed her up, didn't you?"
"I did. I had one last act of mercy left in me, Mere. And I used it to make sure Kevin would never remember her looking like that." God knew HE would have to. "She's gone, Mere. The reason I breathed. And she's dead because of ME."
"No, she's dead because some wicked fucked up bitch decided to kill her," Mere pointed out to him. "Unless you wielded the knife yourself, it will never be your fault." She wanted to hug him or something, but figured he might set her on fire for the contact right now.
"She left, Meredith. She left, and went back to San Diego. She came back to see Kevin, and I left Buffy to get back with her. If I hadn't, she'd be back there right now." His eyes were turning black again now, and he was trembling, the objects in the room rising. "She's dead... because... of.... me."
Mere watched as the objects rose. "Well, what we're going to do is make that bitch who killed her suffer," Mere said to him simply. She wanted to rip the bitch's throat out herself at this point, for screwing with the lives off all her friends, and basically destroying Ash.
"Meredith... you've done a good job. Of being... a better person. I'm done with it. It's time for me to be what I was born to be." He smirked, tightening his hand into a fist as she felt her body float to the ceiling, where she was suddenly stuck. "I'm afraid I'm not letting you throw it all away for me."
Mere jerked against whatever it was holding her up there, his will or whatever, but she wasn't budging. "You son of a bitch!" she screamed. "It's my fucking choice what I do, not yours!"
"If you choose to throw away everything you've been given... you'll do it for yourself. Not for some vendetta of mine." His voice, creepily enough, had no inflection. No emotion. It was as if he were an android.
She sighed. "You're not throwing everything away to take care of one fucking vampire, Ash!" she hissed at him. What blood she had in her was boiling right now.
"Throw my life away..." he said it with a hint of... sad amusement. "My life was gone the moment Lucy stopped breathing, Meredith. The moment that bitch touched her.... I stopped caring. I love you, Meredith. So do yourself a favor. Stay away from me. From this moment on." He left her there, knowing that once he got out of the general area, it would wear off and allow her to fall to the ground. He started walking towards the door.
"Yeah, bet your goddamn daughter would LOVE this right now," she snapped. OK, so Courtney had asked her not to say anything to him. But circumstances had FUCKING CHANGED, OK? Give her a fucking break.
"Daughter? Hm. And to think..." He didn't look back. Rather, he opened the door, prepared to walk right out and leave her there. "people think I'M the crazy one."
"Courtney Kowalski," Mere snapped at him. "You apparently knocked Lucy up in a few years, or something. I don't know how the fuck it works now. She's still at my damn house, though. Haven't told her yet, either. She just sort of popped up at Avarice. Wasn't going to let her run around a big fucking city by herself." She glared at him. "NOW LET ME OFF THIS FUCKING CEILING OR I WILL RIP YOUR FUCKING SPINE OUT!!!"
"Really." He let this process. He could feel it... Meredith wasn't lying. Somehow... in some alternate reality... his Lucy was still alive. Talk about something to file away for after his revenge was taken... "Thank you." And without even looking at her... he was gone. Maybe in more ways than one: Meredith's enhanced senses would easily tell, that heartrendingly... the Ash that she still, in some way, loved with all her being... was no longer there.
