Calm Before the Storm
Who: Mere and Ash
Where: Mere's House
When: Wednesday Night, Feb 3rd
Mere was sitting on the couch of the living room and fooling around with her guitar. What she was trying to do was work on a particular song that she had been working on for a week straight, but something just wasn't coming out right on it. She was wearing an old pair of jeans and a men's black button up shirt, tied at the waist and with the sleeves rolled up. Not something that she would go out in at all, but something that would work for hanging out at home for an evening. She wasn't expecting anyone to come by, and Jack was out for the night. So, no one to impress.
Of course, when you're not expecting company is generally when you get it. Feeling somewhere caught between bored and just missing her, Ash had left behind everything he was doing, and, being spontaneous tonight, just walked the distance to Meredith's place. He stood at the front porch, smirking as he knocked on the door.
Arching an eyebrow when there was a knock at the door, she sniffed the air and realized who it was. Not that Ash was smelly or anything, but, well, he did have a particular scent. It was actually a sort of musky male smell with slight bit of tartness that she was sure was his magic more than anything else. She got up and opened the door. "Hey, what brings you to my side of the 'hood?" she asked, stepping aside so that he could come in.
"What can I say? I missed you. Let's not make a thing of it." He snickered, walking in and taking a look around. "So what's got you all quiet and introspective-looking tonight?"
She snorted when he said to not make a thing of it. "I spend my life making things of stuff," she said to him, shutting the door behind him. "And sometimes a musician has to write music, you know?" Occasionally she did stuff like that.
"Please... you're going to do hard work and ruin my impression of rock stars as lazy assholes who spend their lives partying and abusing drugs." Since he'd known Pat and Jack for ages, clearly he was just razzing her here. "So... how's everything going?"
She laughed and rolled her eyes. "Sorry to burst your bubble there buddy," Mere said to him. "We only party and do drugs ninety percent of the time." She thought in that for second. Was she good? She had to fight off all sorts of temptation lately. "I'm doing OK," she finally said to him. "What about you?"
"Lonely, to be honest. I miss you, I miss Lucy, since we've both been so busy, and honestly? I miss ME. I... I barely know who I am anymore." Which he'd never admitted to anyone. Was he a witch? A watcher? A hero? A villain? Even he wasn't sure.
"Well I don't know what Lucy's up to, but I'm always here for you, Ash," she told him. "And you're Ash. You're the kickass magic guy who's awesome."
"The..." he let that little description go through his head, giving her a teasing grin. "What're you, nine?" He laughed, reaching over to ruffle her hair. "So, seriously... I never thought I'd ask this... but I know he's important to you: how's Ben?"
"I may be young at heart but no nine year old has this hot body," Mere point out to him. "Ben's doing Ok. Can't believe you'd ask about him, though."
"Well... in spite of the fact that what he did to Gwen made me want to light him on fire... he's been good to you. Especially back when I... couldn't. So yeah. I hate him... but I'm also still grateful to him." He smiled there, WAY too sweetly. "Just make sure he knows that if I ever suspect he's going to even THINK about doing something that hurts Gwen again? I'll kill him myself."
"I'll be honest. Not sure what he could do to her at this point. It's not like he'd go after Wells or anything," she said with a smirk.
"Wells. Jesus Christ. Tell me it's a phase. Please. Like... heartbreak leading to bad decisions." Hey... he and Andrew were sorta-friends now... but he still couldn't lie about how he felt here. "Nice guy and all, but this is GWEN."
Mere just shrugged. "Maybe's the yin to her yang. Maybe he's what she needs right now. Who the hell knows what Gwen needs."
"Ladies and gentlemen, Meredith Delany, therapist." He sighed and just sat down next to her, as if he'd been asked. Please... these two? Needed no invitations with each other.
"Well when you become the stable person surrounded by chaos, that just happens," Mere pointed out to him, leaning against him.
"How fucked up is life when YOU'RE the stable one, hm?" He asked with a sweet tone, going quiet for a minute, just enjoying her presence, before giving an honest smile. "It's so weird... feeling, I dunno... *happy* for once."
"Pretty damn fucked up," she agreed with him. "And it's not a bad thing to be happy, you know. It's bound to happen on occasion."
"Especially with my little ray of sunshine around... it's like... I've barely even used magic in months now, and I barely miss it." He sighed, rolling his eyes. "Ok, so I miss it. But I don't mind not using it... not if it keeps me from being all dark and twisty."
"That is a little weird for you," Mere said to him, just being honest there. "No offense, it's just odd to think of you not using magic."
"Well... last time I used it, even being good, I still did major damage. And come on. I get a little JEALOUS and my eyes go black." He had a good point: pissed-off Ash was a DANGEROUS Ash.
She could see where he was coming from. It was just different was all. "Then back off the magic if it worries you."
"I feel like its part of me. But I don't like the temptation to use it in ways I shouldn't." He knew if ANYONE would get that, it'd be Mere.
She nodded. She knew exactly what it was like to give something up cold turkey because you felt you couldn't control yourself. "Then you do what you feel is right," she said to him.
"I should probably go find Lucy." He said as he stood, stretching a bit. Clearly, holding in all his power was taxing him physically. "I miss her, you know?"
She smirked at him and nodded. "Go find your girl," she said to him. "Go remind yourself why you're in this."
