It's Just Business
Who: Mere and Scarlett
Where: Saints and Sinners
When: Friday, Jan 29, around 4 a.m.
One of the things that sucked about being a vampire: when you set up try outs, you had to put them so early in the morning that people usually didn't want to come in. Mere was feeling glad that the girl in question, a dancer named Scarlett, was willing to do so. Kind of weird, but she felt glad of it just the same. Right now she was waiting for the girl to come in and actually do the whole 'trying out' process, which actually included Mere seeing her for the first time, since this had been set up over the phone.
Since it was an audition, Scarlett had dressed in a black mini skirt, the hoodie she had on over top of it reaching further down on her than the skirt. She had paired it with a black button up shirt, and her trademark boots. She had been glad that the other woman scheduled performances that early. Otherwise, she would have been screwed, her sun avoidance would have made it difficult to come in say around eight or nine. She walked into the club, slightly nervous. She had never actually been a dancer before. What if the other girl thought she was a joke?
When Mere saw the other woman walk in, her supernatural 'vampire detector' went up. Still she was good looking, so that just meant that Mere would have to lay down a few extra ground rules. She walked up to her and asked, "Are you Scarlett?"
Scarlett smiled and gave a slight nod. "I am." She held out her hand for the other woman to shake. "I'm guessing you would be who I have to impress around here."
She shook the other woman's hand. "Guess that would be me," she said. Odd thing to think about, but OK.
"Nice to meet you." Scarlett said and then slipped her hand back into the front pocket of her hoodie. "Nice place, here." She commented about the club.
"Thanks," Mere said to her. "We try to keep the place decent and normal, for the most part." As normal as a strip club could really get, anyway. "So, guess we should do a little interview before I see you dance. Come sit at a table with me so the bartender won't try to listen."
"Alright." Scarlett agreed. She could answer a few questions as long as they weren't too personal. But then again, most things she was pretty open about anyway. She followed Mere to a table and took a seat.
Mere sat down at the table with her and pulled out a notebook so that she could take a few notes, if needed. "So, first question: do you have any experience dancing in a club like this? Won't hold it against you if you don't, but just more curious than anything."
Scarlett crossed one leg over the other and got comfortable in the chair. Seeing the notebook, she figured this might take a while. "Well, no, I've never danced before." Scarlett answered honestly, hoping the lady meant it when she said she wouldn't hold it against her.
Mere nodded. "It's no big deal," she reminded her. "If you had, I might have called your last place of employment is all. I'll be able to see if you can actually do it or not when you do the actual dancing," she told her.
Oh good, she had meant it wasn't a big deal. To be honest, Scarlett really didn't have any prior employers. She had managed to make it this far without having to work. "I'm sure there won't be any problems with that." Scarlett said confidently.
"Good to hear," Mere said. "Prior employee history isn't a huge deal. It's more about what you can do." She looked toward the stage. "So, you want to get up there and do your thing?" It was actually empty at the moment. No customers out there, so no need to have a dancer on stage. "Did you bring your own music, or do you want the DJ to pull something up?"
For the first time in a very long while, Scarlett was nervous as she looked up at the stage. She stood up and pulled a burnt cd from her pocket. Can you ask him to please play track number seven?" she questioned. The song she had chosen was Forsaken off of the Queen of The Damned soundtrack. If she had to do two dances for some reason, track eight was Stripped by Rammstein, which had been her first choice but she assumed it was probably overdone. She peeled her hoodie off and hung it over the back of the chair and then hopped up onto the stage. She took a deep breath and then nodded to the DJ, signaling she was ready. After all, worst came to worst all the lady could do was tell her no job, right?
"Sure," Mere said, taking the CD from her. She walked it up to the DJ booth and told him which song to play. Luckily, their DJ was a fairly smart fellow, at least good enough to follow directions. (Mere had to fire the last one for constantly playing the wrong songs.) Mere stepped back down and sat at a table in front of the stage to watch as Scarlett got up to the stage. When the music started to play, Mere waited patiently for the girl to begin.
Well, if she couldn't dance in front of just one person, she definitely couldn't do it for a roomful of customers, she told herself. She started to dance, her nerves calming once she started moving to the beat.
Mere watched the girl as she danced on stage, judging her for both her moves and her stage presence.
Scarlett smiled, obviously enjoying herself up there. Hell, even if she never made it, she would always be able to say she had stripped onstage before.
Well, Scarlett made up for lack of experience in pure stage presence, Mere had to give her that. Girls always made more money when it looked like they were enjoying themselves.
Scarlett slipped began to unbutton the tiny shirt she had on. It wasn't the thought of herself naked on stage that had even bothered her in the first place, she was comfortable with her body. She slid it halfway off of her shoulders before turning in a circle and letting it slip off of her arms to the floor of the stage.
Mere continued to watch, her eyebrow arching a bit when she saw the piercings on the other girl's back. Wow, that was interesting. Hot and interesting. Considering the clientele they got here, that was a plus in Scarlett's direction. Lots of their clients liked girls with tattoos and piercings.
Scarlett could feel the other girl's eyes on her and hoped that the corset piercings and the angel wings she had inked on her upper back were helping her chances. Next to come off was her skirt, and it was apparent that she had no problems sliding it over her boots and stepping out of it, and then she kicked it behind her and out of the way.
If only Scarlett knew how much of a plus her piercings really were. It was good that she was comfortable taking off her clothes, too. Some girls got as far as trying out to learn that they couldn't take their clothes off in front of people. She watched as the girl continued to dance, waiting for the song to end so that she could tell her that she was hired.
After another minute, give or take, the song ended. Scarlett picked her clothing up off of the stage floor and slipped them back on. She hopped off of the stage and walked back to Mere. "How was that?" she asked. "Did I do ok?"
Mere grinned at her. "You were good up there," she said to Scarlett. "I'd say you got the job. Now I just need to know nice things like when we can schedule you for."
Scarlett beamed, she was ecstatic. "I...wow! Thank you!" She burst out. "But for scheduling purposes, would it be possible for me to work nights?" Yeah, 'sun allergies' and all prevented day shifts anywhere.
"Not a problem at all," Mere said to her, leading her over to the bar. "That's all I work, by the way. You just don't see me during the day."
Scarlett caught what she was trying to say, and a knowing smirk crossed her lips. "You too, huh?"
Mere nodded. "Yep, me too. LA's a good place for you to be now." She leaned in a little closer. "One rule, though. No feeding on customers. If they figure you out and want you to, I personally don't care, but just don't do it here. Owner frowns upon that stuff."
Scarlett nodded. "I think I can deal with that. Besides, that would be kind of tacky, I would think." She slipped her hoodie back on. "How do your schedules work here? Would I come in every night and do a few dances or do you just have certain girls on certain nights?" Yeah, you could tell she didn't know much about this profession.
"Honestly, we can do either for you," Mere said to her about scheduling. "You can either come in every night, for say, two hours, or you can pick three or four nights a week to come in and dance for the night. We have girls who do both."
"I think I would prefer every night for two hours. I think that would give me plenty of time to catch a bite and do some other things around town. See the sights." She hadn't been there very long and still needed to scope every thing out.
Mere nodded. "That works for me," she said. "We got to get you the exact schedule and everything, but I think I can go ahead and say this: welcome to Saints and Sinners."
"Thank you very much." She told the other lady. "I'll look forward to working with you." In the sense that she was a manager.
