First Time for Everything
Who: Buffy and Kevin
Where: Eden
When: Monday Night, Feb 1st
For the first time since leaving San Diego, Kevin Van Warren was feeling like a bona-fide junior rock star again. He'd spent the afternoon doing a photo shoot and interview for local music magazine 'Shred', and now was hanging out at Eden, wearing more and better eyeliner than most of the girls in the club, and decked out in a leather getup that made him look like some... weird mix of rock-god, Elvis clone, and KISS fan. He leaned against the bar, that constant smile plastered on his face, taking a sip of his soda.
Buffy, once again, looked like an alien in this place. In a white sweater and light blue skirt, she looked like she might fit in more at a pop club than at a goth club. For two people who are so well made for each other, it didn't seem to look like they would match at all. "So, feeling good today?" she asked him.
"OhmyGOD. You have no idea." He laughed, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her to him. "This was pretty much the best day I've had in AGES. Wait until you see the article they're doing. It's on the general group of local bands that are getting signed right now, but the focal point is on us since we've been trying to get signed for a few years now."
She smiled at him. "That's so awesome," she said to him. She really had no idea that she'd be dating a bona fide rock star in her lifetime. This really was both freaky and oh so cool.
"Of course..." He couldn't help but smile there. "Nobody knows that really... YOU'RE the special one here. Shame not everyone can know about how much good you do. How many lives you save, just by existing."
She shrugged. "The life of being a Slayer is a life of few rewards," she said. One of her watchers over the years, not Ash, had said that to her. "It sucks, honestly. I think people might not be so bad if they knew everything that was going on. Then again, they might lose their minds."
"I don't know... it took me a while to get used to it. I mean..." He thought about everything, and HOW he grew adjusted. "I knew Chloe was a witch. But I didn't know how much deeper the rabbit hole went, you know? Then Paige almost killed me... and I sort of had to take the crash course in everything. That time in the hospital... I had plenty of time to adjust. To think."
She nodded. "We all had our freakouts. My first Watcher took my to a graveyard and basically let a vampire attack me in order to prove that vampires were real to me. I didn't handle it well, either." Well, eventually she burned down her school gym.
"Kinda sounds like a real d-bag, actually." He said with a sudden giggle. He just couldn't think of another way to react. "But hey. My little sister is dating probably the creepiest little guy I've ever met, and he can do all the Star Wars stuff with lightning and everything, so... at this point? I don't think anything's gonna shock me."
"I burned down my high school gym," Buffy said to him. "That shocking at all? In my defense, well, it was full of vampires, but the school board didn't see it that way and expelled me."
"Somehow... I get this feeling you were a walking calamity when you first got your... your powers, huh." He snickered, just picturing her destroying everything in her path.
"Yeah, pretty much," Buffy said with a laugh. "I barely knew what to do with myself." She didn't even mention the running away to Vegas or anything like that. Or Pike.
"Hey... whatever happened then, happened. What matters is that now you're here. With me. And... just an amazing young woman." Good lord... Kevin really was almost storybook-sweet, like some androgynous Prince Charming.
She smiled up at him. "And you're an amazing guy, Kevin," she told him. They really were too sweet for words. Almost to the 'ick' degree.
"So when do I get to watch you, you know... beat someone up? Because somehow... I think I'd find it strangely hot." He winked at her, showing he was pretty much half-kidding.
She laughed. "Well, you can come on a patrol with me if you really want to," she told him. She wasn't totally sure that was a good idea, though.
"We're gonna be playing our first reunion gig soon... I think as a warmup we're gonna do a Judas Priest tribute set. Nothing like emulating my hero to get my vocal chords warmed up..." And hell... with the high pitched scream he could muster... Kevin could do a damned good Rob Halford.
She smiled. Buffy had never actually heard Judas Priest before, but she supposed she should brush up on them soon enough. "Sounds great," she said to him.
"Dance with me?" He whispered into her ear, leaning in as his hands dropped to rest upon her waist. "I've been thinking about you all day long..." Sure, Kevin was generally a sweet, polite young man... but that didn't mean he didn't have hormones like every OTHER guy, ya know...
She stood up so that they could go out onto the dance floor. "Alright, let's go then," she said with a wicked grin of her own.
Thank god he was with her, because otherwise? As if the makeup and his general personality didn't make him seem gay enough, he had WAY more rhythm than most hetero white men. He moved to the beat of the music (he thought it sounded like Switchblade Symphony, but he couldn't be sure), letting his hands guide her body along with him until she found the rhythm herself. "You look gorgeous, by the way... just thought you should know."
"Thanks," she said to him. It was nice being with a guy who actually noticed things like that, actually. He'd be more likely to notice a subtle chance in her hair color or something like that. It was also nice to be with someone who had rhythm, because that made dancing all the more fun! As danced close to him, just enjoying the moment.
"I know I... tend to be more emotional than a lot of people, so don't get too freaked out here..." He started nervously as he took a moment to take in the scent of her hair, closing his eyes. "But I'm falling so hard for you... harder than I've ever fallen for anyone, really." They'd told each other how much they meant to one another before... but never with such... sincerity and weight. "I'm so desperately in love with you, Buffy... it's like... when I think about it, I almost have a hard time breathing."
Buffy didn't get freaked out. "We've had something building between us for quite some time, Kevin," she told him. "We've kind of been avoiding it for a while because we were with different people." For all the luck that Buffy had with different people, obviously. "I'm in love with you, too, Kevin. Kind of had been for a while."
"I was... god, I'm horrible... I was almost GLAD when Irene cheated on me. Because it gave me a reason to finally admit how I felt about you." He tilted his head, kissing her softly on the side of the neck, playfully nipping her there. "I'd bite harder... but I'm afraid you might forget yourself and try to stake me."
"Promise not to stake you for that," Buffy said quickly. "And can I admit something? I kind of WAS glad. Not in the way that you got hurt, but in the way that you got single. Wish you had just broken up with her because you woke up, not because she cheated, though."
"So... I know I'm trying to be a gentleman, and take things slow..." he purred at her, arms snaking around her waist. "But I'm ready to... take this further whenever you are."
She smiled. Honestly, they didn't have to take things THAT slow. "I'm ready," she said to him.
"Wanna go back to my place? Lucy and Chloe are out doing the Avarice thing... it'll be hours before they're back. We could... do anything we want." He let his fingertips lightly graze her stomach. "...anything."
She nodded. "Then let's get out of here and head back to your place."
