Friends in High Places
Who: Shiloh and Baily
Where: Joe's Diner in LA
When: Mid Morning, Jan 20
Shiloh veered her Tracker off the main street and into the parking lot of the first semi decent looking diner she spotted. After the long hours she spent drive highway toward L.A. the young blonde was quite the happy camper when she finally crossed into the city limits. All she was wanting to do was get a little bit of food and some liquid in her before finding lodging to suit her for at least the next few days. Not completely broke, but definitely unemployed, Shiloh knew she'd have to hit the pavement in the next day or so to find a job as the little nest egg she had brought with her would only last so long.
Grabbing her bag from the floorboard on the passenger side Shi exited the vehicle locking it up and dropping her keys into the bag before she shouldered it and headed for the diner's entrance.
Baily was lingering over a cup of coffee at the counter of the diner. For some reason, she wasn't sleepy yet. Her coffee was decaff, so it wasn't that that was keeping her up. She had been up all night at Avarice spinning, so she should be tired by now, but she wasn't feeling it yet. She should probably go ahead and go home, make sure she wasn't going to fall asleep at the wheel, but she knew that she'd be too jittery to sleep right now, so she didn't want to go home to an empty house.
"Can I get the largest soda you have." Shiloh leaned slightly inward toward the counter a couple stools down from where Baily was sitting to ask the server behind it. The blonde wasn't much of a fan with sitting at the counter and once she got her drink she would wander off to one of the booths that lined the windows of the establishment where she'd glance over a menu to see just what she might be in the mood for that morning.
Baily looked over at the girl when she walked in. Didn't know her, but it was LA, so that wasn't exactly a shocking thing. "Been on the road for a while?" Baily asked her, more just in the mood to make conversation than anything. Besides, the girl did look like she had been on the road forever.
"Guess you could say that." Shiloh returned, glancing Baily's way with a friendly like smile. The girl seemed to be trying to be friendly and Shi didn't want to seem rude by offering a flat answer to her. "All the way from New York."
"Wow," Baily said. "New York? Seems like a long way to travel just for a visit, you know?"
"I'd have to agree with you if I traveled all the way here just to visit the city." Shiloh then shifted her attention away from Baily when the server behind the counter came back with her drink. Dipping a hand into her bag the blonde fished out the cash to pay for her drink, then unwrapped the straw she been given to slip the hollow plastic stick into her drink to take a nice long drink of her cool beverage. "You could say I just increased the population of L.A. by one." She said with her gaze landing once more on the dark haired girl.
Baily nodded. "Well, then welcome to LA," she told the other girl. She took a sip of her coffee. "Looking to make it as a starlet of some type?" It seemed that everyone who came here did.
The starlet comment brought a soft laugh from Shiloh. "Goodness no," the blonde smiled to the other woman, "never pictured myself in front of a camera. I'm more of a behind the scene type of person. I'm hoping to get lucky and catch a job in the music business that was similar to what I did back in New York." Shi told her as she settled down on the stool next to Baily. If the dark haired young woman was going to keep her in conversation for the next few minutes Shi was going to sit instead of remaining standing as if she might leave any second.
So, she was a music type person then? "Now, are you looking to be a musician, or are you one of the more behind the scenes type of people?" She knew that Ben's record label was still looking for employees to fill positions, after all, and not in the dirty 'Ben having sex in wild positions with interns' sort of way. Well, maybe that, too. She had no idea what Skylar was into.
Shi took a drink of her soda before verbally acknowledging the other woman's question. "I'm a behind the scenes person. Was assistant to a music agent before coming out this way." Shiloh to Baily. Not that she was of the thought the other girl might be able to help her much in the way of finding employment, Baily simply was just easy to talk to.
"Well, looks like you bumped into the right gal," Baily told her. "My cousin, Benjamin Bale, has been starting his own record label. He's got it off the ground and everything, and he's rich as hell, so it's not going to die any time soon, plus he's got more than a few good bands signed on as well. I know they're still looking to fill a few jobs at the place."
"No shit." Shiloh responded in complete surprise at her seemingly good fortune. "Just what jobs are they still trying to fill at the label?" The blonde asked with genuine interest. Shiloh just hoped the positions available weren't one that'd have her sitting behind a desk all day fielding calls.
"Yeah, you're a lucky gal," Baily said with a grin. Really, this girl had amazing luck or a god looking out for her by running into Baily like this. "I'm not sure exactly what they're looking for, so you'd have to go in and ask them. Tell them Baily Bale sent you, though. It'll help."
"Anyone in particular I should seek out," Shiloh swung her bag up onto the counter to get out a pen and piece of paper to write any important info down on, "or should I just go to the top dog of the company?" Luck certainly was on her side cause really how many people lucked out in learning about a prospective job lead their first day in the city.
"Well, Ben's the head honcho, but, if he's not around or if he's busy, look for Grant Kellerman," Baily told her. "He's basically second in command." She grabbed a napkin and, after getting a pen from a passing waitress, wrote down Grant and Ben's phone numbers at the office plus the address to the place. "Here you go."
"I owe you big time for this." Shiloh said with a big ole smile on her face as she took the scribbled upon napkin and tucked in her bag along with the paper and pen she had fished out that weren't necessary. "I'm Shiloh Stonestreet by the way." The girl then offered her hand out to Baily to shake.
Baily shook her hand. "Baily Bale, but I already said that didn't I?" she realized with a laugh. "Pleased to meet you."
"Indeed you did" Shi smiled back to the girl. "Nice to meet you Baily Bale, and this just might be stretching my luck with you, but do you happen to know of a low priced hotel/motel a girl could get a room at where her life wouldn't be put at risk." Like New York, Shiloh knew the city of L.A. had its good sections and its bad, and since she didn't know the city at all it'd be nice to have a suggestion or two on temporary accommodations.
Baily actually had to think on that for a moment. "I do know of one place that's decently clean and crime free," she said. "It's called Lebban Hotel. I stayed there a couple of days before I got my apartment. I don't know the number off the top of my head, but there's got to be a phone book around here somewhere."
"If not I'm sure I could give information a call to find out the address and number." Hey if the place was decent enough for Baily to reside there for a couple days Shiloh figured it should be good enough accommodations for herself til she secured a paying job and found an apartment of her own.
"Yeah, I'm sure they'll give you the hook up," Baily told her. "If you into rock and metal, you should step into Avarice on some nights. I spin there most of the nights, so I can control the music and make sure it's good."
"Rock most definitely, not so much on the metal, but the place sounds cool so I'm sure I'll be stopping in once I get myself settled in somewhere." Shiloh drank a bit more of her soda before taking a small moments break in her conversation with Baily to order a burger with the works and an order of fries for the road. "So, any other tips or recommended hotspots of the city." The girl certainly did seem to know the area quite well and anything she'd be able to gain that would have her seem less like a newcomer to L.A. would most definitely be welcome.
"If you are into goth music at all, Eden is a good club to go to," Baily said. "Beyond that, most of the clubs around are pop/dance clubs." She thought on it for a minute. "Well, if you're cool with slumming it a bit, there's a place called Silky's that's pretty cool. It's kind of in a bad neighborhood, though."
"Always thought slumming was something the obscenely rich did when they got bored." And Shiloh was nowhere near rich and seldom did she find herself bored, but that didn't mean she'd keep Silky's off her list of places to visit if given the time and inclination. "Not much of a club hopper, but will try and make it a point to visit one or both places you mentioned."
"Well, Eden is much more mellow than most clubs, honestly, but you also have goth kids to put up with, which can be a good and bad thing," Baily said to her. "Still, stop by Avarice anytime. You might like it."
"I'll make it a point to stop on in real soon." Shiloh promised the girl. "Any nights that you might not be there?" Not that she didn't go anywhere alone, it was just that knowing someone there might make for a more enjoyable night as it meant she'd have someone to talk to.
"I'll be honest with you," Baily said. "Even if I'm off work, I'm usually there." It was kind of sad, but it was true. She actually liked the place, so she tended to patronize it when she wasn't working.
"Sounds like someone is little miss workaholic." Shiloh teased with a smile. The blonde knew what it was like to work long hours, but once she was off the clock she was definitely away from work with barely a thought about it.
"Well, partially workaholic and partially that Avarice is the place to be," Baily said with a grin. "Besides, everyone I know hangs out there all the time, anyway, so that's part of the reason I gravitate to that place, anyway."
"Sounds like this Avarice is one of the more popular places to hang out in L.A." Shiloh commented back to the girl. It was now a must for Shiloh to check the place out within the next few days.
"Avarice is one of the best places to be," Baily told her. "You'll love it."
"Well then, if it's one of the best then the place is a must to visit." Shi smiled before being distracted by the appearance of the server with her meal to go. "I suppose I'll be seeing you around B Bale." Shiloh said tossing money onto the counter for the food as she eased herself off the stool and then shouldered her messenger style bag.
