Like Minds Think Alike
Who: Skylar and Ginny
Where: Eden
When: Wednesday Night, Jan. 20
With everything going on right now between she and Lexi, Ginny figured it would be good to give her girlfriend an evening to just... think. In peace. And not have to worry about anything else. So, to help with that, the gothy vocalist with the voice of rage threw on a long black dress, elbow gloves to mask the thick scars on her wrists, and a leather choker, and made her way to Eden. She just wanted to lose herself for a while, and let the music carry her away.
Skylar wasn't too sure what she was doing here tonight. She had never stepped foot in Eden before, but she figured that she'd check out the competition and see how it rated. So far, she was intrigued. Sure, this place didn't play the same type of music that Avarice did, but it seemed to work for the kids out in the crowd, so good for them. Right now she was lingering over a drink at the bar while she watched the crowd.
"Hey..." She smiled, seeing Skylar there. Maybe some of the girls felt a competitive thing between the bands, but honestly, Ginny had NOTHING against them. "Nice to see you here for once!"
Skylar smiled at her. "This actually isn't that bad of a club," she said. "I've heard some things, both good and bad, so I figured that I'd come by and see it for myself."
"Well, hopefully the good outweighs the bad. I love this place, it's like my home away from home. And Damon and Lillith are great, So, how're things with you and Ben?" Oh, now THAT was her trying to be sweet. She HATED men in general, and guys like Ben? She was lucky she could say his name without sneering.
She did catch the slight face that Ginny made when she said his name, but Skylar knew that she was a bit of a man hater for her own reasons. "Things are going good," Skylar said. "Mostly focusing on wedding plans and the record company, coming up with songs for the album. Basically staying very busy."
"Believe it or not, with the rep I have... I'm glad he's ok. He's giving us a chance, and I know a lot of people love him, Plus..." yeah, she had to admit it, "I'm thinking we'll likely end up hanging out at SOME point, considering how close to Lexi you both are."
Skylar nodded. "Hey, you can think what you will about Ben. Frankly, everything you heard about him is probably true. He was pretty notorious in his day. He's really a changed man, though. I really believe in him." She smiled. "Then again, him owning a strip club probably makes him pretty foul in your book anyway. People are always going to think what they think, is what I'm trying to get that. I don't begrudge anyone about that."
"I'll let you in on a little secret, honey." And the way Ginny said 'honey' wasn't condescending or anything... she meant it sweetly. "While the strip club thing doesnt exactly HELP how I see him... my grudge isn't him. It's men in general. A couple of different men each messed my life up in ways you couldn't begin to imagine. I tend... to dislike them as a group now."
Skylar nodded. "Fair enough," she said. "I think I understand." She took a sip of her drink. "Still, we should be friends. If Mere can make friends with people, then so can I. We shouldn't have this adversarial thing going on."
"More than anything, I'm more amazed at Meredith and PAIGE somehow getting along now." Then, knowing that Skylar knew the score about everything anyway, she smirked with a lazy shrug. "Ok, I'm more amazed that Paige is getting along with ANYONE. Who knew she'd be nicer as a DEMON than she was a human?"
"Well, when Mere stabbed her with some special knife her friend made for her, it was something that was going to make her feel everything bad that she did and know it was bad before she died. It seems to have stuck." Skylar gave a shrug herself. She really didn't know what was going on with that, but was relieved that Paige, if she was going to be around, wasn't going to try and kill them all.
"We really live bizarre lives, hm?" Ginny asked with a laugh as she brought her glass to her lips, taking a sip. "You know... you should call Lexi sometime. Not trying to be a pesty girlfriend... but she really misses you guys."
Skylar nodded. "I wouldn't mind talking with Lexi again, now that I feel like I can trust her now. It hurt a lot when she sort of drowned herself in coke again, but now I'm seeing her actually pull herself together, and I think you're a big help with that." Skylar smiled. "Tell her to give me a call. Hell, call Avarice or Saints & Sinners. I'm at one or the other most nights."
"I will. She's... doing great. I'm so proud of her, Skylar... she's such an amazing person. I really think she's the best part of me." Ginny, for her part, sounded almsot painfully in love.
"Glad to hear it. I'm pretty damn proud of her at this point myself," Skylar said. She knew that Lexi and Mere talked a bit now and then, but Skylar herself had wanted to see if Lexi was really in the sober thing before doing anything.
"She's so beautiful, too... it just... it radiates off of her. I can't even imagine her now, with drugs diluting that. It seems like... a tragedy." This soft-spoken, sweet girl... was honestly the raging madwoman on stage for The Lazarus Project?
"You don't want to imagine it," Skylar told her simply. It really was just best left at that. "I'm just glad that she's better now."
"At the risk of sounding gushy... she's got this... this glow to her now, I think she's finally really dedicated to staying sober. She seems to finally see how much better life is when you can remember it from day to day." Deciding to change the subject before she started coming off as one of those people who cant shut up about the person they're dating, she smiled wickedly. "So... got any songs for the album recorded yet? We decided to put the NIN cover we do live on our album, since everyone seems to love it."
"Covers are a good way of pulling audiences in that enjoy the other artist sometimes," Skylar said to her. Since their sounds were too far apart, NIN fans might even enjoy it. "We've got a few recorded now. Of course, once we record everything, then we got to pick through and figure out which ones go on the album. Not looking forward to that."
"Don't ever forget the magical power of the B-Side. Great outlet for the ones that don't get chosen." Had she been planning this crap in her head for years? Damn skippy. "Or, worst-case, you die and keep releasing albums like Elvis or Tupac."
"Very true, on both counts," Skylar said with a nod, "although I'm still convinced that Tupac just quit and is still making money off of albums released after his so called 'death' while hiding in anonymity."
"If so, we should find him. Make it like the search for Bigfoot or something. The Weekly World News would love us forever." The pale brunette giggled and threw her head back. "They might even take Bat Boy off the cover for a week."
"Only for a week, though," Skylar said with a laugh. "Then again, they will still talk about Saddam Husein's goat lover, so who knows if finding Pac alive will even register."
"Two hot white girls, sitting in a goth club, talking about Tupac Shakur. Is it me or does that sound like the setup to some bad joke?" While she'd never admit it, DAMN did she understand now what Ben saw in Skylar. She was funny, witty, and beautiful.
Skylar grinned at her. "Hmm...maybe, and maybe even a good joke, so don't down on yourself for that," she pointed out to her. "It does sound like the set up of a few jokes, though. I agree with that." Or a really bad porn, but she didn't say that to Ginny.
"You know, way back when... I was actually going to apologize to you. For the Paige incident. Or incidents, as it were. But I got sidetracked by ending up at Meredith's place instead of yours, and, well..." she blushed and laughed. "She sort of got me all sidetracked and distracted."
Skylar nodded. "That's...kind of what Mere does. She didn't like...sexually molest you or anything, did she?" Well, it wasn't like Mere hadn't basically put herself on guys before. According to her, they always became willing. "I don't think she would to you, but just curious."
"I think she might have, had I stuck around. Not that I wasn't tempted to. Wow, she's got this... this aura to her." She laughed and fanned herself a little. "But... by then I'd already met Lexi, and was already in the midst of falling for her charms."
Skylar snorted. "Mere has, or maybe had, she's in a stable relationship now, the ability to devour people, and I don't mean in the vampiric sense. You could drown in her, I think." She shook her head. "I'm glad Lexi found you, though."
"So am I. So... how're the new members working for you? They both sounding good?" God knew Ginny knew about replacing band members...
"Rachelle is great. I wouldn't replace her for the world now." God knew that Skylar had needed a friend, and Rachelle had been more than willing to be one for her at that time. "Gideon is working out well, too. Sure, he sticks out like a sore thumb, but he plays good and blends in with Mere's guitar work really well. Can't ask for much more."
"I'm nothing if not honest. I really thought, at first, you just let him in because he's dating your sister. But when I heard you guys as a group... the kid's really good. He's got room to improve... but that's the good part. He's only gonna get better." She saw the way Skylar almost... got cutely defensive about Rachelle and raised a brow, but said nothing. Something about that just... convinced her that Skylar was nothing if not fiercely loyal to her friends. Maybe she wasn't the devil everyone had made her out to be.
Skylar wasn't perfect by any means, but she sure as hell wasn't the devil. "I was actually not for letting him because he was dating my sister. Didn't want to have any impropriety showing. He was the best of the try outs, though. Can't look a gift horse in the mouth, even if he is dating your little sister." He had calmed her down a lot, which Skylar was grateful for as well. Only made him look better in her eyes that he could play the hell out of a guitar.
"Stephanie, our new guitarist, likes him a lot. I guess they go to school together." Sure, she was a liiiiiiittle sensitive to talking about Steff right now, but it wasn't really anyone's fault.
"Not much to dislike about the kid, really," Skylar said. "He's young, but so is Lucy Van Warren, and I can tell you that she can play like hell."
"Oh my god. Can I just be honest and say I think I would sell my family into white slavery to have that girl in our band? I've never SEEN anything like the speed that kid has. Wow." Ginny blinked those big eyes, shaking her head.
Skylar laughed. "That's because it really doesn't exist outside of what comes from a sugar high," she joked. "Seriously, I have no idea how that family got so talented. Doesn't seem fair, does it?"
"Seriously. She'd never admit it, at least not to me, but I swear I think Lilly sorta hates Chloe sometimes for it. Lilly's SO good, you know? But Chloe's got that... that weird talent that literally you just can't LEARN. It's like a born gift or something." Two singers, in formerly rival bands, having a nice long chat? Who'da thunk it?
"I actually wasn't aware that Lilly had feelings," Skylar admitted. "No offense or anything. She's a great drummer, but I've never actually seen her smile, or talk for that matter."
"We kind of call her The Terminatrix. Seems Steff's the only one who can pull any real emotion out of her. She's one of my best friends, but DAMN, she can really conceal how she's feeling." Oddly, Lilly, with her stoic nature, was one of the few constants in Ginny's life.
It took Skylar a second to catch her drift. "Really? Her and Steff? I actually wasn't aware of that." Skylar shrugged. Good for the both of them. "And some people are just good like that, I guess."
"Yeah. They don't... make a scene out of it. Mostly because Steff's so shy, and honestly, I think Lilly would take an icepick through the eye before she'd publicly show affection to anyone." Oh, did Ginny smirk there. Lil's stoic nature had always been a true, genuine source of amusement for her.
Skylar chuckled. "Hell, I wouldn't have guessed that Lilly was attracted to, well, anything, really. I've never even seen her look at anyone, to tell the truth. Shows what I know." She smiled.
"Kinda took us all by surprise too. I think Lady G was convinced I was playing a joke on her when i told her." Poor Lilly... her reputation really did precede her.
Skylar smirked. "I bet." And, from what she knew about Lady G, she didn't hide her opinion about anything at all.
"Like I said... maybe the four of us should get together sometime. I'm actually really enjoying chatting with you, and I know Lexi misses Ben, whether she admits it or not." Hey, what's the saying about being able to pick your friends?
"We should. You're actually really easy to talk to." Which she hadn't expected from her stage persona, to be honest. Looks were deceiving, though, weren't they?
"Everyone says that, actually. I think Lexi was in shock at first, really. I... I just let all the anger and everything out onstage. This? Is probably the most outspoken and non-shy I've been offstage in months." She admitted with a small blush.
"Well, glad I bring out the good in you," Skylar said with a laugh. "You seem like a really nice and good person, Ginny. I like you a lot. I'm glad your being outspoken with me."
Awuh. Ginny blushed again, and burst out into giggles as she finally found the strength to ask the question she'd been wondering for months... and found it far too funny NOT to laugh at. "Ok, I have to ask this... I thought you were GAY!"
Skylar snorted. "Well, I'm not gay so much as I don't care about gender," she told the other girl. "I did primarily date women for a long time. However, I also dated the lead singer of Broken Sunrise, who is one hundred percent male, that much promise."
"Seriously? I never actually knew that. That you dated him, I mean. not that he's male. I figured that part out myself." Mental facepalm there. Ginny groaned at her own words. "Sometimes I need to know when not to speak."
Skylar laughed. "Yeah, for quite a while. People forget that sometimes. But no, I'm not exclusively gay or straight. I just don't think that gender is an issue with who you fall in love with, one way or the other." She sighed. "Sometimes it happens when you least expect it, with who you least expect it."
"I think I agree there. I admit, one hundred percent, that my issues with men are 100% mental. If the crap that happened to me as a kid had been done by a woman? I'd probably be into men and hating women." If nothing else, Ginny could admit her own faults, even the mental and emotional ones.
Skylar nodded. "At least you realize it. Still, you have reasons, and that's fine, too. Just, give Ben a chance, OK?"
"I'll do my best, ok? Just...." how to say this? "Please tell him not to flirt with me. Like... ever again. Ok?"
Skylar nodded. "I think he knows, but I'll reiterate for you just in case."
"Oh thank GOD. Thank you." She said with relief. The way Ben was, or well, USED to be, hopefully, honestly skeeved her out.
"You're welcome," Skylar said, laughing.
