Christmas Gifts
Who: Lilly and Stephanie
Where: Lilly's Apartment
When: Dec. 17, just after this post.
It was Christmas Eve. And even though she was a dhampir who'd been raised by demonic guardians... dammit, Stephanie Whitmore loved Christmas! And she knew that the girl she was sort-of dating, her bandmate Lilly Maymin, wasn't exactly the type who showed much emotion. Like... ever. But she was gonna break through and make her favorite Terminatrix have a good holiday anyway. So! Wearing that same outfit she'd been in when she saw Lexi (come on, you KNEW she was wearing it for a reason), the little guitarist pranced up to Lilly's door, that bag of presents slung over her shoulder. "Ho ho ho! Open up!"
What a lot of people wouldn't know about Lilly was that she was Jewish. Since she was also gay, you wouldn't think that she'd be the most observant. Well, you'd be half right. She was observant in the way that she had a minora lit and had a star of David on top of her little tree. So there. She opened the door and grinned when she saw who it was. "So, was I a good girl this year?" she asked, stepping aside so that Steph could come in.
While not always the most observant gal, Steff made immediate notice of the decorations, and felt like CRAP. "Oh.... poop. You're totally Jewish and I'm standing here all "MERRY FREAKIN' CHRISTMAS" and junk. You've been a good girl... but I *so* haven't."
"I'm actually a renewal Jew, so it's cool." Being brought up in San Fransisco meant that she would be in a much less normal sect of Judaism. "I celebrate Christmas. I just mix and match."
"Oh good. WHEW!" Prancing in cutely, shaking her butt a little for Lilly's benefit (hey, just because they hadn't DONE anything didn't mean Steff couldn't act sexy dammit!), the girl gave a cute grin and plopped the bag on the floor. "So... yeah. I kinda got carried away with the money Ben's label gave us."
Lilly was actually putting a good bit of that money away in order to save for somewhere to live that had more than one room, although that didn't mean that she hadn't bought her girlfriend an awesome present. "So I see. You're just like a little Santa, aren't you?"
"Yeah. I was gonna buy a sleigh and eight tiny reindeer..." she sighed cutely, "but then I was told they can't really fly. Which made me sad. So I had to settle for buying you some presents instead. So... yeah. sit down. AND PREPAAAAAARE TO RECIEVE!" That smile was as bright as any christmas tree could hope to be.
Lilly grinned at her. Really, this was all quite amusing to her. "Honestly, we probably could get some flying reindeer if we looked hard enough." Someone probably had them. She sat down on the bed, which basically doubled as a couch for her. "Alright, all prepared to receive."
This was gonna be fun. Alllll of it. Well... except for ONE part. More on that later. First, the tiny dhampir dug into the bag and pulled out a long, rectangular box, wrapped in shiny green paper and with a large red bow on it. "This is for youuuu..."
Lilly looked at the present and smiled. "You certainly went through a lot of effort, didn't you?" She started to unwrap it.
"You betcha!" She said with a sort-of loud squeak. The box contained handcrafted drumsticks, with Lilly's name engraved in them, and a steel-reinforced drum pedal. "Now you can REALLY cut loose. And not have to worry about damaging your equipment."
Lilly grinned wider when she saw what it was. She was actually sort of known for breaking her drum pedal more often than she really should, if she were normal. "Thank you so much," she said, reaching over to hug Stephanie.
"So, before my next one... I, um... yeah. I kinda promised someone I'd give this to you." It was just an envelope containing a card, the envelope had Lilly's name written on it in... rather familiar writing.
Lilly sort of arched an eyebrow when she saw the handwriting. "OK..." She opened it to see just what it was, sort of hoping that it wasn't anthrax.
Inside the envelope was a pink and red card with a Star of David on it, that had one simple thing handwritten in it: "Lilly - Happy Holidays. I'd say Merry Christmas, but damn, you and your Jewishness gotta go and ruin that for me. Anyway. Enough joking. I love you, ok? You're still my best friend, even if you hate me. If you can make yourself... maybe give me a chance to explain things to you? Try to talk this out? I miss ya, bitch. Love, Paige"
Lilly sighed, reading over the note and then setting it aside. "Did she come up to you and ask you to give this to me?" she asked Stephanie, not in an accusatory voice but a gentle questioning tone.
"Yeah. She's.... trying. Hard. She actually hangs out with Lexi now. You believe that?" Of course, Stephanie was never one to know when to shut up. "I mean, sure, she can rip people to little bitty shreds with her jaws now like a shark, but she seems WAY nicer now."
"Now I'm sure the world is ending," Lilly said bluntly to hearing that Paige was hanging with Lexi now. "Wait, she can rip people to shreds with her jaws now? What the hell did she come back as?"
"Some kind of Justice Demon. Her demon form is pretty weird looking... but she's actually nice to me. And I think she's... like sworn to protect Lexi now, because of how badly she messed with her as a human." Steff looked skyward, mouthing it back to herself cutely, as if trying to make sure she got it right. "Or something."
"Does that mean that she's in direct servitude to Meredith because she provoked her into killing her?" Lilly questioned. "It's not about whether I do or don't believe the fact that she's changed. It's that...it's hard to trust someone who came into your home to kill you, you know?"
"I dunno how it works. I think that might be cancelled out cuz Mere's not human." Steff was sadly dumb about most demonic matters, in spite of what she was. "Anyway. Just... dun shoot the messenger. She asked me to give it to you. So I did."
Lilly just shrugged at that. "No plans to shoot the messenger," she said with a slight smile to Stephanie. Few others really ever got to see her smile. "I may forgive her, in time, at least. That's something I just don't know about yet."
Stephanie looked at her, as if trying to figure out what was going on in her head. Lilly could be so... maddeningly stoic at times, it was hard to tell what she was really thinking. "Sooooo.... want your last two gifts?"
Lilly very rarely lost her shit. It might have been why Paige didn't take it seriously when she first started screaming and telling her to get the fuck away, not even wanting to open the door. "Sure, and then I can give you your gifts."
"Ok!" Steff said with that usual enthusiasm, digging back into the bag and handing her a small, thin box, the type that normally a necklace or a bracelet might be on. "This one is more serious, but it's something I went through a lot of trouble to get, because I worry about you."
"Hmm...I wonder what this could be," Lilly said with a smile, opening up the box after unwrapping it it.
Inside was a simple silver chain, but on it was the most peculiar pendant she;d likely ever seen. It appeared to be a symbol made by combining a cross, a star of David, a pentagram, and about four other religious symbols. "It's a special protection pendant. It works for all religions, all beliefs. It's like wearing a protection spell around your neck, makes it a LOT harder for vampires to harm you."
Lilly's face broke into a wide grin that, honestly, probably two people in the past ten years have ever gotten to see. Strangely, it would be a protection spell that really got a reaction out of her, considering how close she came to being vamp food once. "You have no idea how much I appreciate this," she said, reaching up to hug the other girl
"Eeek!" Stephanie squealed with a giggle, hugging Lilly back. She really WASN'T used to seeing this, sadly. "And there's one more."
Lilly hugged no one, so, to anyone who might know her, this might be a sign that she was opening up to someone. "OK, let's see what else you cooked up."
"Ok. Your last gift is something that, well... most people who are kind of dating would have been giving a while ago. But I know you're... sort of introverted. Ok, not the word I'm looking for. But you know what I mean. Anyway... close your eyes." Stephanie actually looked a liiiiiittle nervous here.
Lilly laughed a litle, but closed her eyes just the same.
Taking a deep breath, Stephanie just grabbed the drummer and laid a long, heated, DEEP kiss on her. Not the typical 'peck on the lips' or 'holding hands' they tended to do... this was a full-on snog, all tongue and saliva.
Lilly jumped a little when the girl kissed her, but then quickly got to kissing her back. She had actually been going slow more for Stephanie's sake, but it was OK now. She kissed the girl back with full force, showing how just how much like a robot she was *not* when with the right person.
"Wow." Ok, so Steff had kissed her like that for a few different reasons. She was still a little shocked by how quickly Lilly reciprocated, and how great it felt. "Just... wow."
"It's supposed to feel like wow," Lilly pointed out when Stephanie pulled away. She was still feeling a little stunned herself, though.
"I guess... I just..." She felt the heat in her cheeks as she tried to explain herself. "We never really established what we are. I mean, if we're anything, really. We hang out all the time, but we never really do much other than hold hands or snuggle. I guess I'm trying to figure out how we feel about each other, and where you want this to go, and what it's gonna take to make me shut up before I say something stupid."
A giggle almost bubbled out from her lips, but Lilly was able to hold it in, not sure how Stephanie would take it. "I was doing things slow for your sake," she told her. "I didn't want to push you into anything you didn't want or weren't ready for yet. All you had to do was say so. I'd certainly like to be something, you know?"
Thank GOD. Maybe pursuing something here would squash the sudden (and VERY uncomfortable) feelings she was suddenly getting anytime she was around Lexi. She actually let out an audible sigh of relief. "You're just so hard to read sometime, you know? I wasnt sure WHAT you wanted..."
"Never hurts to ask," she said, reaching up and pulling Stephanie down until she was sitting in Lilly's lap. "I know I'm not the most emotive person on the planet. It's just kind of how I was brought up to be. With me, if you don't know, just ask."
"Eep!" Steff let out a little squeal as she got pulled down, caught offguard. "Ok, ok... then from now on, let's promise to be open and honest with everything. I don't think either of us is so fragile that we can't do that..."
Lilly nodded. "That is something that I think can be arranged," she said to the other girl, this time actually giggling when she squealed.
"Lilly? Can I ask you a question? Like... something serious? Cuz I've never been in a real relationship before, and some things... just confuse me." She nibbled her bottom lip, trying to do as she said, and be honest.
"Sure, Steph," Lilly said to her. "Go right ahead."
"Is it... normal to, even when you're dating someone HAPPILY I add, find yourself attracted to someone you KNOW you shouldn't be attracted to?" She repeated it in her head, wondering if that even made sense.
Lilly tilted her head, thinking for a moment. "Yeah, it's something that happens. It's the nature of sexuality," she explained. "You're going to see people that you're going to be attracted to. It's what you do about that attraction that can cause problems."
"Right. And I hate it." She said with a sigh. "Cuz I looooooove bein' with you. And I never wanna ruin it. Especially with someone who I consider a good friend, and who I know is ALSO happy with someone."
Lilly shrugged. "It's something that happens. You're going to be attracted to other people on occasion, but that doesn't take away from what we have at all. You can't really control what you feel. You can only control your actions."
"Oh thank GAWD. I thought there was something wrong with me. Like I was some perverted horndog or something." Embarrassed, she buried her head in Lilly's shoulder.
Lilly laughed as she wrapped her arms around Stephanie's waist. "No, you're perfectly normal. Just like everyone else in that respect."
"Just cuz, you know, the whole honesty thing..." she gulped, wincing a little. "It's like outta nowhere, I got this crush-type-thing on Lexi."
Lilly smiled at her. "I kind of figured it was her. You are with her all the time. It's really not weird at all to have a crush on your mentor."
"Thank god." She repeated, shaking her head. "Ok. More honesty..." she figured this would make the girl much happier than hearing about a crush on SOMEONE ELSE. "this whole lap-sitting thing? Embarrasingly enough is kinda turning me on."
"Well, there are certainly things we can do about that," Lilly pointed out. "That would also be up to you. Whenever you are ready, I'm willing to wait or go raging right now."
"I..." Stephanie felt her face go flush again, and she had a hard time meeting Lilly's eyes. "I think raging sounds pretty amazing right now."
"Then raging it is," Lilly said with a grin.
