Merry Christmas
Who: Buffy and Kevin
Where: The Van Warren Basement
When: Wednesday, Dec. 23
Buffy sat in Kevin's basement (which didn't really look like a basement, but more like something that most people would kill to live in) while she waited for Kevin to come down with her gift. He had said something about having it upstairs, and that it was a surprise for her. She had his with her, sitting in a bag by her feet. She had no clue what he had gotten her, and only hoped that her gift would live halfway up to whatever he had done. She just had the feeling that he was an awesome gift giver was all. Actually, call it woman's intuition. She was sure of it.
Let's be honest here: The Summers family had perhaps a fifteenth of the money that the Van Warrens had. And that was being generous. So monetarily, yeah. Kevin's gift WOULD completely eclipse Buffy's. Luckily, Kevin was less like a typical rich young man than anyone would think possible. Thought was what mattered to him, meaning that if she'd taken a piece of construction paper, made him a card, and gave THAT to him, he'd be thrilled.
Walking downstairs, he looked more like he was about to be on TV than have a quiet evening at home: a semi-sparkly black suitcoat, over a white dress shirt with long thin black tie, and black leather slacks with expensive black leather loafers. Of course, he had on his ever-present black eyeliner, his smile brighter than a small sun as he carried... a card?
Yes, all he had in his hand was a card, a small jewelry box in the other.
She opened her eyes and blinked. Actually, she was sort of glad that he hadn't went all out. It would have made her feel odd, to tell the truth. Yes, girls like to be lavished upon. However, Buffy personally didn't want that because she didn't want this relationship to even have the look of being based in or around money, and he had seemed to have gotten that. "Merry Christmas," she said with a grin as he came down the stairs.
Well, hopefully she wouldn't get TOO upset by the end of this. First... he sat down beside her, merely opening the jewelry box to reveal a simple but beautiful gold bracelet. Sure, part of him wanted to get her something extravagant, with diamonds, etc... but he knew Buffy wasn't that type of girl. She liked things that were pretty, obviously... but she wasn't a total diva. He knew this was more her style. "This is the first part of your gift. The second, well... that's in the card."
She grinned when she opened up the locket. "It's beautiful," she said, looking at it. "And a card?" That was the part that slightly confused her.
"Just... um... read it." The card was a fairly generic Christmas card, with pictures of trees and snow on it... inside was just the words, "Love, Kevin" and what looked like... a polaroid. Of an expensive-looking entertainment center: big-screen TV, DVD player, huge speakers, etc. Whu???
She looked in the card and looked up confused. "What's the polaroid for?" She asked him.
"Well... what you see in the picture? Is... kind of being installed in your living room as we speak. It's for you, obviously, but is also sort of a gift for your whole family. It's the best I could find." He winced a little, hoping it wasn't TOO much, and that she wouldn't feel that he was flaunting his wealth.
You know, since it was sort of a present for her family, it was better. "I...oh my god," she said, flabbergasted. "Are you for serious?"
"Of course I am! I just... I thought it was something you'd enjoy that your sister and parents could like as well." He reached over, placing a palm on her cheek and kissing her lips softly. "I'm falling so deeply in love with you, Buffy... I think I have been since the day we met."
She leaned forward a little and kissed him back. "Well, they'll definitely enjoy this," she said to him with a grin. Sure, it was a huge thing. Sure, it felt a little weird to have someone gift so much to you. She knew that me meant well, though, and that helped a lot. "I'm falling for you, too."
"And those words, right there? Best gift you could give me. I mean it. Only thing I REALLY want right now... is you." Jesus Christ... most people would think guys like Kevin, this sappy and sweet and genuine, only existed in cheesy novels.
Buffy beamed up at him. "That's all I want, too. Well, I want you, not me." She laughed a little. "Oh, I have your gift, too, if you want to open it."
"Is it a naked Buffy? Because... admittedly, I've been wanting one of those SUPER bad lately." Well, well. So. Kevin FINALLY shows the blonde that yes, he DOES have a libido. Ok, so Irene found out much quicker. But this relationship was founded in a much deeper psychological bond. "Even if not... sure. I'd love it."
"Well, Naked Buffy wouldn't fit in a bag," she pointed out with another laugh. "I mean, I could come in naked wrapped up in a bow, sure, but I wouldn't fit in a bag." She picked up the small green bag that was trimmed with red ribbon. "Here you go."
Inside the bag was a a piano music book for both David Bowie 1974-1979, the Beatles collection, and a book of sheet music with a silver metal cover with an etched quarter music note on the cover.
Kevin's eyes bugged a little. He was surprised that she'd put such thought into it, so much consideration for what she knew he liked. "Wow... thank you, Buffy... I love it."
"You do? Really?" It wasn't that it was expensive or terribly hard to find, but the fact that she had really tried to get him something that she knew he would like. "You really like it?"
"Are you kidding? Now I'll have to find a way to get one or two of those songs into a set for you." Not like he'd need much pushing there ANYWAY. "There's two more things, though. That I'd like to ask you for."
"Um, sure, go ahead." She really was looking forward to getting to see him do his set soon. She wondered what he was going to ask for, though.
"First... for you to come over tomorrow, after having Christmas with your family... and stay with me for the night." He figured she knew what exactly he meant by that. "And... if you don't mind... I was wondering if you'd want to introduce me to your family."
"Well, I'd love to introduce you to my family," Buffy said to him. She certainly wasn't ashamed of him or anything. She didn't really even have a reason to be. The only reason she never came out and said she was dating Ash was for her sister's sake. "And I'd love to spend the night with you." She grinned at that.
And for the first time... she saw him give a truly devilish grin when she said that last part. Hey... he'd wanted her, in a baaaaad way, since the first time they'd really chatted.
