And It All Goes Wrong Again
Who: Wesley and Ami
Where: Wesley's Apartment
When: Thursday, Jan. 8
Wesley was sitting in his living room, reading a book and trying to relax, but utterly failing. Like everyone else, he was feeling paranoid as well. Everyone was expecting something big and bad to happen soon, but no one was sure what, or who, would be next. He set his book down and leaned forward to rub his temples. He just hoped that, somehow, this would be over soon.
Ami stood in front of Wes' front door, wondering how to act, what to say. She wore a sweet white sundress, her long blonde hair in braided pigtails, her hands clasped behind her back until she finally got up the courage to meet her 'grandfather' of sorts.... and knocked quietly.
Not expecting someone right now, Wesley was a little startled by the knocking on the door. After a quick recovery, he stood up and looked through the peep hole to see the girl that had been staying over at Gwen and Skylar's place, whom Gwen had told him was her daughter. After a second, he opened the door. "Hello," he said.
"W-Wesley Wyndham-Pryce?" She mumbled nervously, rocking on her heels.
"Um...yes, that's me." The girl did look amazingly like Skylar.
"My name is... Amidala Morrison-McConnell. GwenM... Gwen sent me to see you." She held a respectful, if somewhat nervous, posture.
"I bet Gwen named you, didn't she?" Skylar would never name a daughter after a character in a movie. He moved out of the way so that she could walk in.
"Yeah..." She sheepishly blushed as she walked in. "SkyMom always joked that she lost a bet and GwenMom got to name me."
He shut the door behind her. "I'm just surprised that Skylar agreed to it." Patrick would probably agree to anything that Gwen wanted. He wasn't really sure.
"Its a pretty name, if not a little nerdy." She laughed and looked at the floor. "I usually just go by Ami."
"It's just a little odd to meet a teenager by that name when I was only forced by Gwen to watch that movie last year," he admitted. "Can I get you something to drink?"
"At least she didn't name me Jar-Jar." She giggled, and sat down very ladylike on the sofa. "Maybe a cup of tea?"
"Thank the gods," he muttered. He was sure that Skylar would have prevented that, though. "Certainly," he said, heading to the kitchen to brew a pot. A few minutes later, he came back in with a tray full of all the proper tea accessories and the tea.
"This is so weird..." She admitted, taking the cup with shaky hands. "GwenMom raised me on this tea... she always said it reminded her of you."
Well...that answered one of his questions. "Well, she once threatened to take away my British card because I was drinking too much coffee, so I'm a little surprised she didn't take to coffee and joke about it."
"SkyMom always said you'd have treated me like a real granddaughter...." she grew a little teary eyed, looking at him, actually real, not a photo. "I always pictured myself going to movies and ballgames with my grandpa..."
He smiled at her. "Well, the first thing I did ask Gwen when she told me about you was when I was going to meet my granddaughter." Maybe things would work out better now so that they could *actually* meet each other one day, and he could watch her grow up.
"GwenMom didn't talk about you much... SkyMom said it was because it hurt too much, that she was cutting herself off more and more from any emotions. But SkyM... Skylar..." she felt ridiculous using her 'pet names' for her mothers when they were now the same age as her. "Said that you got to hold me a few times when I was born... and that it was the happiest she'd seen you look since... well... since everything happened."
He was tempted to ask what happened to him, but it at least seemed that he was around for her birth, so it could have been anything, really. "What all did happen, Ami?" he asked. "If we're going to change things, I need to know."
"Almost everyone died, Wesley..." she sighed, shaking her head. "Gwen and Catherine were the only two slayers who weren't killed in the battle... and the vampires... took over after that. Los Angeles became a vampire city."
"Gwen and Catherine?" Well, they were the only two who had the previous experience. "A vampire city? Was it just LA, or did it happen in other cities as well?"
"Other cities too... let's just say that vamps weren't much of a minority anymore. With almost no slayers left, and the entire Council decimated... there weren't many people around to stop them." Ami shivered and grimaced. "And it all started with this attack. They caught the Slayers off-guard, with little to no experience, and nobody to help them. Other vamps saw the success of it, and copied it in other cities."
Wesley shook his head. He just couldn't believe that this could happen. With the changes that had been made and everything, how could this happen? "What can we do differently to fix this? We know that they're here. We knew that before you came. The real question is what to do different."
"The girls need help. I mean... things already look slightly different than I learned about, the key is to KEEP changing them." She looked around, and her eyes went wide as she spotted a small framed picture of Wesley and Narcissa together. "...your girlfriend?"
He looked over at the picture and smiled. "Oh, yes, that's Narcissa. She's a Watcher, too, actually, over a girl named Sam." Who apparently died according to Ami's future. "We've been dating for a little while now, but we've known each other long before that."
She visibly gulped a little bit there, and finally made herself speak. "She's... I mean... is she still safe? Healthy?"
"Yes, she's fine...wait...still?" Oh ye gods, what happened? "What are you talking about?"
"It was..." She always heard that saying too much could screw up everything... but wasn't she here to change the future anyway? It couldn't get any WORSE... "She was killed.... and you changed. According to Gwen, it was one of the catalysts to the Council falling apart. You turned on everything they stood for, and turned into... like... Gwen called it a "Punisher dude", whatever that means. Ended up dying trying to be a sort of Slayer yourself."
Wes's eyes went wide when she said that. "She...she died?" That was all he could focus on. Not the whole death thing, or the Council falling apart, but Narcissa dying. "When did it happen?"
"I don't know..." her voice was in a bit of panic, and she backpedaled a bit, not wanting to upset him. "But you... you might wanna make sure she's protected."
"I need to go find her," He said, standing up. "I need to make sure that she's protected." Now he was on the verge of panic.
"Sir... calm down... please..." She stood, nibbling her bottom lip helplessly.
He sat back down. It wouldn't do to have him run off and do something stupid right now. "Have you told anyone else about this?"
"No, sir... nobody at all." She was, truthfully, a little scared right now... he had switched from polite and gentle to almost animal in about 2.5 seconds.
"We...we have to do something to prevent this," Wes said, visibly trying to calm down. "I can't just sit around and let her die, do you understand?"
"Sir... we'll do what we can, I swear! Nothing is set in stone! Things have already changed a little!" She tried to hide the fact that her little chickenshit ass was trembling.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," he said, realizing that he had obviously freaked her out, so to speak. "I'm just worried. Very worried."
She crossed over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. Maybe stopping even one thing was the key? "I'll do whatever I can to keep her safe, Wesley."
"Thank you," he said. He just couldn't bear the thought of losing her. He just couldn't.
"I'll tell Gwen what I know... maybe she has ideas."
"OK, that's a good idea," he said, still trying to calm himself down and stop himself from rushing out and doing something probably bad.
"I... I guess I'll go. Now, I mean. See what I can do..." she felt terrible, and quite helpless as well.
"OK, I suppose tell Gwen to call me after you talk to her," he said.
