Out Doing the Seeking Thing
Who: Meeghan and Skylar
Where: Club LA
When: Saturday Night, Nov. 28
Meeghan was enjoying her fifteen minute break from the stage slowly consuming a Pepsi, which was a change from her norm of a glass of water with ice. The night was going quite well as the place seemed to be its usual jammed packed self on the weekend night. While the male members of the band often chose to mingle with the female fan base, better known as their groupies, Meeghan had a tendency to distance herself from the pack so to speak. The guys she got along with quite well, the female groupies that seemed to show up week after week, well let's just say the lead female vocal didn't have any appreciation for most of them.
Skylar was here at this club on a mission. With Ben's blessing (he knew that she had excellent taste in music, after all), she was here to approach a particular singer of a particular band. When she was told where the woman was, she made her way to her. "Meeghan? My name's Skylar. Can we talk for a few minutes?"
"Sure all you wanna do is chat me up a bit." Meeghan commented back eying the other girl a bit appreciatively as she took a sip of her soda. Not that she had all that much time left before having to hit the stage once more, but the chick was cute enough to make the insinuation to.
Skylar smirked. "Just talking. I'm actually here as a representative of a record company. We're very interested in gathering up new talent." She handed Meegs the new business cards that Ben had made.
"Okay. So talk." Meeghan said accepting the business card and giving it a quick glance over. "You've got ten minutes." The lead vocalist added looking up with a semi smile to Skylar. Wasn't like she hadn't been approached once or twice before by a label, Meeghan still was willing to hear the woman out in the ten minutes she had before needing to be back up on stage again.
"I'm sure that I'm not the first record company to try and approach you," Skylar said, more matter of fact like than in a way of flattery. "I really like your style, though. The record company I represent is starting out, so we'll be able to give you a lot more personal hands on time than some of the bigger ones might be able to." That was just for starters, actually.
Meeghan took a sip of her soda and then gave a couple nods toward the woman as she started spelling out the options and benefits Meeg could possibly gain from signing with the record company the woman represented. "And what else might make it more beneficial for me to sign with your company then say like a better known label such as Arista Records?" Certainly the newly established company could off her more then simply more personalized attention.
"One thing that we promise is complete creative control of your music and image," Skylar said to her. "Plus a better deal on a record contract than most larger record companies will offer, which, at best, is usually a dollar and some change per album." Skylar had brushed up on her record label stuff before doing any recruiting. Also, with fewer artists than some of the bigger labels, we can devote more to doing your publicity, but that probably goes under 'more individual attention' as well." She smiled. "We also have a few bands under our roster, and are hoping to put together a co-headlining tour of a few bands soon. If you decided to come aboard, you could be a part of that as well."
"And how long is this offer open?" Meeghan asked tucking away the business card she had been given. Everything Skylar had outlined sounded good, but Meeghan wasn't prone to jumping at possible advancements to her career. She would need time to consider everything before accepting to declining what the woman offered on part of the record company she was representing.
"The particular tour itself might be shut at some point, due to scheduling and whatever," Skylar said, "but the offer for a contract is open for as long as you need to think about it. There's no rush, there."
"I'll need time for consideration of what you've offered Miss..... I'll be in touch in a couple days. Can you be contacted through the number on the business card you gave to me?" Since initial contact had been made by Skylar, Meeghan'd rather continue negotiations or whatever with the woman instead of being handed off to someone else concerning signed contracts and such should she decide to sign with the fledgling record company.
"OK," Skylar said. "And I'm Skylar James. You can get me through those numbers, too." She was marrying Ben, after all. She didn't mention that, though. "You can also call Ben Bale if you want to confirm anything as well, just in case." She just wanted to prove that she wasn't doing this out of nowhere or anything. She and Ben had talked about it.
"You can guarantee you'll be hearing from me, Miss Skylar James." Meeghan said with what could be read as a mischievous kind of smile that might have hinted to something more. She contact the woman whether she would be accepting or declining the offer she'd been given of signing with the company. "And now,"she said with the finishing off of her drink, "I need to be getting back on stage to finish out my night. Stick around a bit and enjoy a drink on me and more of the live entertainment." Meeghan said putting a couple bills on the counter to cover any drink the other woman might order.
