Making Friends of Old Enemies?
Who: Mere and Paige
Where: Saints & Sinners
When: Friday Night, Nov. 27
When the wolf was away, the kitties will play. That might not be the exact saying, but it was what Mere was going with. While Ben was off meeting the future in-laws, Mere was in charge here. Which had her wheeling and dealing with customers, and trying to keep the dancers in a sane state of mind. It was actually kind of fun, though. She had just finished talking down a dancer from trying to attack another one because she was dancing to the first girl's 'signature' song. After preventing that hair pulling cat fight (hot, but not good for business), she grabbed herself a drink from the bar and made herself comfortable at a table. A few moments of peace was all she needed.
Too bad those few moments weren't gonna happen now. For some reason, despite their differences, Paige knew Meredith was the one person most likely to understand the change in her. So, walking into the club in a vinyl-miniskirt, black mesh tank over a white lace bra, and thigh high black leather high heeled boots, the justice demon looked honestly every bit as hot and trashy as the dancers did. "Damn, Delany... check you out. Surrounded by all this and yet able to concentrate on work? Looks like I ain't the only one capable of change."
Mere actually froze for a second when she first heard that voice. Well, that voice was supposed to belong to a dead person. Not that death really had any meaning in their world these days, did it? She looked up at Paige and just stared for a second. "Damn, dead looks good on you," she finally said. "This is a story that I've got to hear."
"From what I hear... you got a soul, and I got a conscience. Right after you gave me the damned thing and killed me, a wizard brought me back." Oddly, she seemed more amused than anything, like even SHE knew how ludicrous this was. "More like brought my essence back, or some shit. Made me into a friggin' 'justice demon'. Like a guardian devil, for lack of a better term."
"So, then a wizard did it?" Mere asked playfully. "Lots and lots of weird stuff was going on. Still going on, really. So, what's a 'justice demon,' anyway? You don't like to, have to go to court or whatever, do you?"
"Oh, way more fun than that. I basically protect people. Try to protect people I hurt in the past." And as if it meant nothing, "Oh, and I can totally tear bitches apart with my own TEETH now." She grinned wickedly, hinting that no, she WASN'T kidding.
"Sounds kind of like it could be fun," Mere said to her. "I guess I should say it while you're here, and well, interested in talking. I'm sorry for what I did to you. I should have been better about it and just have walked away, but I didn't."
"Please. I was a bitch. I'm lucky you didn't gut me months earlier and wear my guts like Mr. T's bling." Clearly, Paige hadn't gotten too much classier with goodness. "Besides, it's all good now. Except that now I have to protect Wilson, and I know she's gonna fucking enjoy this..."
She smirked. "Yeah, she probably will get a kick out of it before it's over with," Mere said to her. "And your guts would have not gone with any of the outfits that I own."
"Nothing would go with half the outfits you own, Delany." Meow... but at least this time, the cattiness was playful. "Except venereal disease."
"I'd say the same for you, but people would have to want to sleep with you first," Mere said with a smirk of her own. "Welcome back to the land of the living, Paige."
"Yeah... thanks." Was it possible that somehow... now that she wasn't trying to compete with the girl... that Paige might actually LIKE Meredith? "For the record? I know you're a better guitarist than me, ok? Ya always have been."
Mere just shrugged at that. "Eventually, time will tell," she said simply. "Either way, you didn't quite get the shot you should have, either." Of course, Paige had seen to that herself, but Mere felt like saying it, anyway.
"You guys are gonna be great. And you deserve to be. I told Wilson to give my guitar away. I won't be needing it anymore." She never really noticed before (maybe she didn't CARE to), but Mere was actually really nice. And attractive.
"Really?" That was kind of shocking to hear. Paige giving away her guitar. Paige was a pretty girl, though. Hopefully she could be happy one day, even as a justice demon. "Wow."
"I'm a decent guitarist. Nothing special. And I think... with everything I've done... I'm needed more in other ways now. And I hear Wilson's got a little protege that can probably play the shit out of it." This, honestly, was Paige's idea of being sentimental and slightly emotional. "So, why the fuck not, you know?"
"Very true there," Mere said. "That kid's probably going to blow all of us out of the water, and she's still in high school. She's ah, she's seeing the drummer, too." Mere wasn't sure if Paige had talked with Lilly yet. She knew that they had been close before, though.
"Wait... THAT'S who Lilly's seeing?" Well. Lexi had mentioned something about Lilly seeing someone. "And Lil's GAY? Get the hell outta dodge. Well... at least now I know her hormones at least WORK..."
Mere nodded. "I think they're taking it slow, for the kid's sake, but yeah, that's who she's seeing. I sort of always pictured Lilly as the terminator, but shows what we all knew?"
"Yeah, right. Arnold would cower before Lilly's wrath, chica." Paige snarked, still all protective of Lilly, even if the girl DID hate her now. "You know... I know you probably don't want advice from me... you might not even NEED it. But take it anyway. Cherish your friends, Delany. Don't let the monster in you push them away. Because you'll regret it forever."
"I know that, Paige," Mere said to her. "I do cherish my friends. Who knows? It might not be too late for you, either. Just give it some time about that."
"I know Lil. She'll.... probably never forgive me." Still, she wasn't the type to wallow. "As long as I know someone's lookin' out for her, I'll get by. I just want her to be happy. Heh. Funny, though... she digs chicks, but never hooked up with Ginny's hot self. Go figure."
Mere shrugged. "Never know what's going to happen in the future," she told her. "Don't go predicting anything until after it happens. Just let things go for now." She wasn't sure why Lilly had tried to hook up with Ginny, either. "Have you tried to talk to Ginny yet?"
"No... kinda afraid of that one. Girl's got a TEMPER, man." She shook her head and crossed her arms. "So what's going on in YOUR un-life recently?"
"Well, I've got a boyfriend that I'm actually being, like, monogamous to right now," Mere said to her. "Not Ben. He found himself the love of his life in my lead singer. Not exactly expecting that one, you know."
"You and Bale aren't together anymore? Damn... Although..." She smiled deviously there. "He back on the market then? And I need to hear about the stud that was bad-ass enough to tame YOU."
"No, he's completely off the market, too. He's getting married to Skylar, probably in the next six months or so," Mere said. "They guy I'm with now, well, he's a guy that I've known for a while. Really sweet guy. Makes me want to be good, you know?"
"Jesus Christ... What the fuck did *I* miss? Bale's nailing your singer and you're all... Neutered? Shit... What a world huh?" Oh yeah, she gave a biiiig grin there.
"Just depends on how you look at it, I guess," Mere said simply, smiling at her. "The 'Ben nailing my singer' bit was a bit of a fuss, since she was still with her wife at the time, but I think that's working out, too."
"Hah! I guess playboy, filthy-rich, and gorgeous weren't enough..." She snickered, "he had to add home wrecker to his resume. Go Ben!"
"Well, he's done that before, but this time it's for luuuuuvvvvvv!" Mere said with a giggle of her own. "He's like, head over heals puppy dog in love right now. Kind of funny, actually."
"Funny how I became a vampire, got dusted, got brought back as a demon, and yet I find Ben in love the thing that's hard to believe." The raven-haired beauty laughed, eyes twinkling. "Well... Good for you guys. Love aint my thing. Never was. Love 'em, leave 'em, and go."
"Hey, whatever works, babe," Mere said to her. "I'm not one to talk about anyone's choices. It is weird to think of Ben getting married soon. Actually, it's freaky."
"Well, there's also a smaaaall market for for women who are also demons. So, go with what ya got, right?" Another snicker as Paige set her hands at her hips.
"Definitely on that number," Mere agreed. She sighed when she heard two dancers that she had already had to pull off of each other once start to go at it again. "I've got to get going to prevent WWIII from starting between who get's to dance to 'Back that Ass Up." She shook her head and laughed. "Don't be a stranger, OK?"
"Never thought I'd say it, but... count on it." Paige turned, walking away while laughing over how much things can change.
