New Shop
Who: Delilah and Giles
Where: Delilah's new magic shop, to be named
When: Tuesday Afternoon, Nov. 24
Delilah hefted up another box and set it on what would be where she would be keeping the cash register soon. She was sick and tired of sitting around most of the day in her home. Sure, she trained Sin a little bit of the day, but there were still a lot of hours to fill, and, well, she needed something to do or she would go insane. So, she decided to open up a magic shop. It's not like they knew anyone around here who owned one. Might as well open up one of her own. Made sense to her.
Giles had agreed to come down to help her stock the place, maybe get her ready to open a little sooner than if she had to do it alone. Seeing as how she'd agreed to join his secret project with Ashton, he felt this was the least he could do for her. Carrying a good three boxes atop one another, he stumbled in, setting them carefully on the floor next to the counter, nearly tripping on the way. "Here you go, dear..."
"You alright there?" she asked him when he nearly tripped. "And thank you so much for actually being willing to help me out. It seems that the few other friends or even acquaintances that I have are all either out of town or, well, busy right now."
"Not a problem, dear. Especially after you agreeing to... help myself and Ashton out." He left it at that, as for now, the less said about the project, the better. "This is actually a great idea... it will help us all get supplies easier, without having to go through less subtle means."
"Or flat out lying to people about what we're doing," Delilah offered. She knew that the less said about the 'project' the better, but she sort of wanted to talk about it to someone, too. Sort of torn, there.
"Have you thought of a name for this place yet?" He asked, more making conversation than anything. "I think I've finally found a real home for the new Council, and the academy..."
"I'm not sure yet," she admitted. "I wanted to come up with something catchy but not too corny." She stopped and looked over at him. "You found somewhere? Where?"
"There's.... a rather old hotel near downtown. Called The Hyperion. Seems due to rumors of hauntings, the place has been quite hard to sell. I'm able to get it for a n almost criminal savings."
"Are you buying it from the city?" Delilah asked as she started to unpack a box. Lucky for her, she already had a few supplies that she would need for running a magic store already on hand. "I wonder if anyone we know has heard of it."
"I'm hoping they haven't. And I'm going to purchase it using an alias.. to make sure it can't be traced to Council affairs." Clearly, he was already thinking of protection.
"Not a bad idea," she said to him, remembering what had happened to their last headquarters. She, along with everyone else, had lost a lot of friends in that explosion. "That would at least give us some anonymity."
"Which we're going to need a lot of, until we can find better ways to protect ourselves." He straightened out his glasses, sighing to himself. "We can't afford another tragedy like the one that happened before."
"No, no we really can't," Delilah agreed, stopping for a moment. "I hate to bring it up but, do we know who did this? Any leads at all?"
"We're nearly 100% positive it was the work of Wolfram & Hart... we just have no way of proving it completely. But having a united front, where we're aware of them this time... I suspect we'll be able to protect ourselves much easier this time..." Removing his glasses for a moment, he absently cleaned them while he talked, as he usually did when discussing something that made him nervous or awkward.
"I still can't believe that they would do something that was so bold," she admitted. "Yes, they are Wolfram & Hart and all, but that just seems so ballsy, even for them. They attacked one of their greatest foes outright, catching them completely off guard. Hopefully, we can prevent that from happening again."
"I'm going to be bringing in an old friend to help me train the watchers, keep everyone in line. She's... a handful, but I think she'll do a splendid job of keeping this new council a tight, solid unit." At least he hoped so. Isabella... could be quite abrasive at times.
"Really? Who?" Delilah honestly wasn't sure who else was still out there. Even the ones that you knew where alive were hard to get in contact with, mainly because they were so out of the way and hard to get in touch with.
"Isabella Delallo. She was just starting at the Academy the year I graduated. She's got a reputation as almost a drill sergeant, to a degree. If anyone can help me hold this together, she can." Surely, the others likely would loathe her... but Giles had a soft spot for the woman.
"You certainly could have found much worse," Delilah said simply to him. God rest her soul, but Delilah personally couldn't stand the Watcher Meghan that had fallen in battle with Wolfram & Hart. There was much worse still out there.
"She's an old friend, as I said. I think she'll do wonders for our organization." He looked her over, noting that since her talk with Ash, she'd actually started to seem more... herself again. "How are things, anyway? Have you... gotten back to training Cynthia again?"
"Yes, actually, I have," Delilah told him. "She seems to be grateful to actually have something to do lately." The girl certainly had a lot of pent up energy that needed to be put to use somewhere.
"She's an eager student... I just hope she can eventually improve her grace and balance." Face it, Giles was right... the girl was a megaclutz.
"I'm sure that's stuff that can be taught with more training, though. You can't ask for someone who wants to learn more, though," Delilah said to him. She liked Sin. Of course, she would defend the girl.
"We're bringing in some new girls, and some new watchers... we need to match them up properly." He already had an idea of who to match Isabella up with... but that was another story.
"I wonder how many girls are actually out there," Delilah said, looking away for a moment. "How many out there that actually have no clue as to what they are?"
"I'm almost afraid to know the answer to that. Eventually, we'll almost have to put several slayers per one watcher." He knew that was going to be the case, but still hoped it wouldn't be for quite a while.
"Hopefully we'll have recruited a few more Watchers before we get too close to something like that," Delilah said to him.
"Well, that's my hope as well. That we can have a big enough group of qualified watchers to handle the influx if slayers as we find more and more of them." Giles reached up to straighten a few shelved items, more keeping himself busy than anything.
"We're all hoping that things turn out well," Delilah said to him. "Of course, what we hope for tends to blow up in our faces more often than not. Have you been able to do any more recruiting for Watchers at all?" she asked him.
Giles nodded, clearing his throat a little. We already have a few new watchers coming in soon, as well as a few new possible candidates for the academy."
"Are we actually going to have the Slayers to give them soon?" Delilah asked. She was really just more than curious than anything else.
"Yes..." He replied with a calm smile, glad to see the interest she still had in all this. "One just arrived less than a week ago, and another is going to be here soon."
"Really?" That was actually interesting. "Who are those two?" Something else to think about was new Slayers coming in, after all. Anything else was better to think about than her own life at the moment.
"One is actually a member of the Bale family. Interestingly enough, somehow the lycanthrope DNA skipped her, yet she ended up being a Slayer." The others, he had precious little info on yet, but that first was a mouthwatering enough tidbit...
"Another Bale family member? I thought they were wolves, not rabbits," she said, rolling her eyes a little as she started to unpack a box of books and stack them on shelves. "What about the other one?"
"The other ones I don't have as much information on... I believe one is a dance student from Australia." He really did know precious little.. he'd merely sent representatives to attempt to bring them here.
"We're still finding all sorts of them, aren't we?" Delilah asked him. "We may never find all of them before something or another goes wrong with one of them." Once again, they only had hope to go on there.
"You never know when 'too late' is. Look at Candice, for instance." She had been young, yet still was too far gone to help from breaking.
"You're right," Delilah said to him. "Candice came into being a Slayer with a lot of problems." She shook her head and sighed. "There might be others who are even more damaged."
"Which is one of the things that... YOUR small group may have to deal with." Giles knew, should they find more fallen slayers, he didn't wasn't the girls to have to deal with that. Bad enough Faith & Catherine had to deal with Candi.
"I know," Delilah said to him. "Rehabilitation can't work with them all. Some don't want to be helped." She could understand the idea behind that; she just happened to work for the side of good.
"You're a good student, Delilah. A good watcher and a good worker as well. You're going to work out well with this new project." He smiled again, realizing that the young woman really did have the potential to be one of the great watchers.
"Thank you," she said to him with a slight smile. She had work to throw herself into. It seemed to be for the best. Hopefully she could do something good with this magic store as well. They certainly needed one to themselves.
