Christmas Time!
Who: Mere and Devon
Where: Devon's House
When: Thursday Evening, Nov. 19
Mere woke up and looked up at what was becoming an increasingly familiar ceiling above her. She was at Devon's house; she had spent the night there last night. She was also very, very undressed underneath the sheets that she was underneath. She rolled over to see if Devon was still in the bed with her.
Devon, however... was gone. God bless him, in his attempts at keeping his life (and Mere's) as human and normal as possible, he was in the living room, beginning to build what looked like a small Christmas tree. Hey, someone had told him that most people start decorating right around Thanksgiving. NORMAL! HE WANTED NORMAL!
Mere threw on a shirt (which happened to be his), and got up to start looking around for him. When she found him in the living room, she looked at him for a second. "I didn't realize you celebrated Christmas," she said to him.
"What can I say?" He shrugged, trying to not look as embarrassed as he felt right now. "I wanna make things as good, and as normal as I can for you. I can't offer you a lot... but I can try."
"Cool," she said simply, walking over and looking at the tree herself. "We can do gifts and stuff, too." She looked back over at him. "When's your birthday?"
"February. Honestly, it's been so long that I forgot the actual day, but... I usually say it's the 18th. No idea why, it just feels right." Comically enough, the vampire was wearing blue jeans with a sweater that looked like it came right off the back of Cliff Huxtable. Devon might be a tough fighter, and a wise sage... but he clearly had no fashion sense.
"Well, then we'll call it February 18th and go with it," Mere said to him with a smile. "You want to be normal, you gotta celebrate birthdays, too!" It was one of those many things that they had never really had the chance to go over.
"And yours, dear?" He asked with piqued interest, realizing they'd never actually talked about this.
"December 14th, actually," she said to him with a smile. So, it was actually quite soon for them.
Well. This was gonna be interesting. Maybe he'd have to talk to Jack again sooner than he expected. He'd need some help coming up with a great gift, after all.
"I'm man enough to admit that, gift-wise, I'm currently clueless. But!" He smirked, giving a hearty chuckle, "I'm also clever enough to think of something."
"Well, good for you for being honest," Mere said to him, still smiling. She, however, was planning to, at least for Christmas, burning that damn sweater he was wearing on top of a yule log and buying him something much more yummy. "Also, I got an invite to a friend's for Thanksgiving. You wanna come?"
"I know you well enough to ask who the friend is first." God help him... he loved her, but knew she kept occasionally unsavory company.
"It ain't Ben," she remarked. "It's actually Pat and Patience, you know, who's wedding we went to last month. So, should be a nice and fairly normal holiday."
"Oh. Well, I'd say we could do much worse than spending some time with them...." He was privately thrilled. He had nothing against the Bales, per se... they just weren't his kind of crowd.
"Yeah, we could." Of course, Jack was going as well, which meant that, more than likely, her mother would be there as well. Mere still had NO clue what to make of that at all. Actually, it freaked her right the fuck out.
"These people... they're like family to you, aren't they?" He asked, smiling softly. He was still getting a feel for who the most important people in her life were, outside of her father.
"Pat is, definitely. Him and Jack have been friends for, well, it definitely feels like ever," she told him. "While I'm in a band with her hated enemy, Patience realizes that I'm gonna be friends with her no matter what, and doesn't bug me about it. She's cool, too."
"...then they will be the same to me." Devon, sadly, had nothing and nobody to even consider family, other than Mere, really. It was why he'd felt so protective of her, followed her here to begin with.
"So, did you ever celebrate Thanksgiving before?" Mere asked him. She'd never been a huge celebrator of it herself. As far as she knew of, it was a holiday about eating food.
"Yes, actually. I have a bit of a soft spot for most holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter..." he tried not to laugh, knowing if he were capable of blushing, he would. "I've even celebrated Hanukkah a few times."
"But...you aren't Jewish...or are you? Because we can totally put a star of David on the top of that tree if you are. No wait, you were gonna be a priest." Yeah, Mere babble. Ain't it grand?
"I just love the pageantry of holidays. All of them. The way they bring the best in people out, how they can somehow take even the most hard of people and make them more caring..." Another shrug, as he roped an arm around her waist. "I suppose I'm a bit of a sap."
"There are a lot worse things that being a sap, like being a douche or a cynic," Mere pointed out to him.
Like your ex, he nearly pointed out, but wisely kept to himself. "I just hope a girl as... fun-loving as yourself doesn't eventually grow bored with me. I have to admit, it's my greatest fear."
"I'm not gonna grow bored with you, Devon," she said to him. "Hell, you're the one that's been with a queen and a samurai chick, and I'm just a chick in a band. If anyone worries about boring someone, it should be me."
"You..." he started, studying her as if she were some ancient puzzle, "are at once the most fun, most attractive... and most fascinating woman I have ever met."
"Just pointing out the logic in your statement," she said, smiling at him before reaching over and kissing him quickly.
He reached into the box he was digging through, pulling out a long strand of garland, and draping it playfully over her head. "Alright, alright... before I get all weepy here, help me get this stuff up."
She looked up at the strand of garland hanging down from her head. "Well, that's attractive," she said with a giggle. "By the way, did you invest in any mistletoe?"
"Got some in here somewhere..." he said with a chuckle, digging through the box... as if he needed something to get her to kiss him.
