Making Up
Who: Iris and Ben
Where: Avarice
When: Thursday Night, Nov. 19
It actually took Iris a few tries to get up the metaphoric balls and go back to Avarice. She loved the club, and she was friends with the owner. However, she HATED said owner's fiance. Ugh, she couldn't even get over the fact that he had proposed to the woman. The woman who, so far, had two destroyed marriages under her garter belt. However, Iris was willing to grit and bear her right now because she was dating Ben. She wanted to be friends with Ben, and now it was time to bite the bullet and go and talk to him. She had been worried about him recently, and well, the only good thing Iris could say for Skylar was that she had stayed at Ben's side the entire time.
Luckily, almost all of the Ben-hate going on was one sided. The wolf couldn't say he really hated nyone, save whoever the hell had tried to kill him recently. When he saw Iris walk in... he couldn't help it: he walked up to her, hands in his jeans pockets, proudly showing off his brand-new Suicide Messiah t-shirt as 'tsk'ed a little. "Wow... so Avarice is once more graced by the presence of one of the esteemed members of 'Team Morrison', hmm?" Ohhh yes, he was having fun with her now.
"You're an ass with an occasional bad taste in women," Iris said to him with a smirk. She should have worn her 'Team Morrison' shirt tonight, if he was going to be so cocky. "Good to see that you're up and about, though. I was worried about you. I'm also amazed to see that 'she' stayed by your side the entire time. Pleasantly surprised, by the way. I wasn't aware that she could be so loyal." Oh, she was not going to ever stop hating Skylar, but she could admit to an occasional good thing when she saw it. She was a grown woman, after all, and backhanded compliments were also fun.
"Oh, you'd be amazed by some of the things you don't know about her." Why did he enjoy being douchey so much? He figured he might never know. "Like, there's this thing she does with her tongue, that.... you know what, forget that. To be serious... I was told that from the time I was taken into that hospital room to the time I awakened, she never once left my bedside. You can all hate her if you want, but I know I have a beautiful, loving, amazing woman, and that's all that matters." And with that out of the way, he smiled tightly, opening his arms to her. "I missed you, babe. Wondered if you'd ever talk to me again."
"God, now I need brain bleach," Iris said with a groan. This was just something that they did to each other for fun, but did he have to use such a low blow. "Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm willing to try and be civil, for your sake, which shows just how much I like you, you ass." She reached up and hugged him. "I've missed you, too. I'm still allowed to hate her, right?"
"You can hate her all you want." Oh god. She was about to see the romantic side of Ben. "Because I can love her enough for the both of us."
"I'm not sure if I'm supposed to coo at that or hurl," Iris commented. She sort of felt like hurling, though.
"She makes me happy, Iris. Happy the way Jeremy makes you. And Patience makes Patrick. And I may be able to joke about it, but she's the woman I love, and I'd do anything to protect her." He smiled here, trying to show her he meant no malice here. "That said... no matter how its meant, the next time you or Patience decides to make a scene during one of her shows... I will have you escorted out. The band may be alright with it, but as her future husband, I am NOT."
"Alright, alright, no more t-shirts," Iris said with a wave of her hand. "Even Gwen seems to be forgiving enough right now." Messed up as all hell, but she was the one who kept claiming that Skylar wasn't that bad or something like that. "We felt the need that night to defend a friend of our's is all. Besides, I heard that Skylar ended up making a very interesting shirt of her own."
"Ohmygod. Iris. I've never felt more loved in my LIFE." Ben hadn't had anyone to gush to yet. Bretton wasn't really the type to gush, and Bronte was, as he and Bretton lovingly called her, Mrs. Roboto. "She actually came out onstage wearing a shirt that said Future Mrs Bale. I was trying not to push her, or move too fast, and she pulled me along."
Iris snorted. "Well, one thing that can be said for Skylar is that she tends to go after what she wants," she said. Hopefully Ben would be a good influence on her, actually. Ben might have fucked everything that moved, but he at least had a good heart. Maybe it would rub off on her. "I don't get what you see in Skylar. Honestly, I don't get what Pat and Gwen saw in her, either. Still, I'm gonna respect your choice. You all obviously see something that I can't."
"Hey, I don't get what you see in your stodgy little Watcher, but do I say anything?" He laughed though, as he teased her about Jeremy, finding it a mix of funny, cute, and sad that even after getting royally fucked over by Pat, she was still so protective of him.
"Then let's just agree to disagree on our significant others and move on, shall we?" Iris just grinned at him. It wasn't like she gave a damn what anyone thought of her own choices, after all.
"Agreed. Besides... Skylar can't be all that bad. MOST women wouldn't want their future husband hanging around a woman who hates her..." Aaaaaand game point. Iris was NOT gonna be able to argue that one.
"Wasn't aware that she knew I was here," Iris said simply. "Is she watching from some watch tower or something?"
"She knows who my friends are. We hide nothing from one another. Admit it: the fact that she has no problem with three of my best friends being an ex-girlfriend, a one-night stand that hates her guts, and a recovering drug addict that almost destroyed her band makes her pretty damned cool." And then he sort of had an idea, as if it had just hit him. "Can I count on you to behave yourself and not betray my faith in you if I invite you and Jeremy to the wedding?"
"Well, the ex-girlfriend is a friend of hers and and the recovering drug addict is, well, recovering from an addiction. You can't blame her for what she did while high," Iris pointed out. "I'm the only one she could really have a problem with." She actually thought for a moment about that next part. "I promise not to act up if you invite me to the wedding. Just, don't ask me to kiss her on the cheek or anything. Do you guys even have a date set yet?"
"We're going to have Thanksgiving with her family. I believe we're going to basically figure that out with them, like a token of my respect. And we decided to invite my cousin Neely to come with us." He sighed, trying not to laugh. "Between her and Lydia, I fear this could end in embarrassment for all involved."
"Well, that should go over swimmingly," Iris cracked. "No offense to your or your future sister-in-law, but that tidbit of your past is a good way to screw up all ability to have relationships with your in laws."
"Oh, believe me. Lydia knows by now that my family will quite literally devour her if she does anything to ruin what Skylar and I have now." Again, he gave that grin that made it impossible to tell if he was kidding or not.
"That's...a little scary, Ben," Iris said to him. "I'm sure that she wouldn't do anything on purpose to ruin your chances with your rock n' roll queen."
"But anyway." From his tone, it was clear a topic change was imminent. "For what it's worth... I never got to tell you just how glad I am to see you alive and happy again."
"Thank you," Iris said to him. "Now both of us can finally be truly happy."
