Joining Forces Who: Marlowe and Wesley Where: Wesley's Home When: Monday Afternoon, Nov. 16
What an insane week. Between what happened to Benjamin Bale, Skylar actually calling him and asking for help, and having to have Liz basically run off in the middle of an evening together made for a confusing time. Now, however, from what Liz had told him (Skylar didn't' seem to call unless she needed something), Ben was doing much better and would more than likely be going home today. Good for them, he supposed.
He walked into the kitchen to make himself a cup of tea when he saw Marlowe in there. While he had said that she could stay with him and Gwen, he actually hadn't had much of a change to talk to her. Something that he had continuously kept meaning to rectify, but things had gotten busy quick. "Hello, Marlowe," he said to her as he walked in.
"Hey Wesman." Marlowe returned with a grin glancing up from the sandwich she was in the process of making while seated at the table. She seemed to have settled in and made herself quite comfortable in the man's house, but that was something she was hoping to rectify with finding employment soon and another place to live.
"So, how are you doing today?" he asked as he started to pull down the supplies that he would need to start making himself some tea.
"Pretty good, yourself?" Marlowe answered and inquired slapping the two slices of bread together to create one ham and cheese with mayo and mustard sandwich. "You want a sandwich to go with that?" She offered with a nod to the tea supplies he was getting together. She did after all have all the necessary things out on the table to make a replica of the sandwich she had just put together so it would really be no trouble to slap another one together.
"I'm doing fine, thank you," Wesley said as he filled the kettle with water and put it on the stove to boil. "I'm not too hungry, but thank you for the offer. Do you have any plans for today?"
"None that are etched in stone." Marlowe answered before taking a bite of her sandwich and swallowing it down before continuing. "Why? You got some plans for me, Wes? You're not wanting to take me out on a date or anything, cause I have to say not exactly into the dating older guys thing." Marlowe grinned teasingly.
"Well, no, because both my girlfriend and Gwen would both lose their minds if I did," he said to Marlowe. "I'd rather not have two different women quite that mad at me." Especially one with super powers.
"Okay chuckles," Marlowe responded with a smirk to the guy, "why all the curiosity concerning my plans for the day." Had to be a reason why he'd ask if she had anything going on for the day cause Wes wasn't exactly the type to broach the topic just for idle chatters sake.
"I was wondering if you had a chance to talk, actually." No, he wasn't one for idle chatter, at least not with someone that he didn't know very well.
"A chance to talk?" Marlowe not quite catching what the guy was trying to get at when all of a sudden it seemed like a light bulb went on in her head. "Oh," Mars chuckled softly, "You wanna know if I have time to talk. Sure!"
"Yes, I'd like to talk to you," Wesley said with a slight chuckle. "I just...you being here for Gwen is good. It's good for her to have as many friends around her right now as she can. How long are you planning on staying, though?" Would she run off again? Any little thing could crush Gwen at this point.
"I'm really thinking it's going to be for the long term, Wes. Not that I plan on staying here rent free. Don't feel right leeching off for any long stretch of time." Which meant she'd have to get a job soon so she could start contributing to things if she continued to stay at the guys house. As he had mentioned Gwen still needed her friends around her, and now with Ash having approached her about some Black Ops thing that was in the works, well Marlowe didn't feel she could ditch either one and feel right about it.
"I'm glad to hear that," Wesley said, going through the motions of making tea. "Gwen really needs you right now. I'm not worried about you staying here rent free, although I wouldn't turn down any help at all if you were able to offer it. I'm very worried about Gwen, though. She's never been like this, before." Even through two other break ups, one of them being with Marlowe.
Marlowe chewed down a couple more bites of her sandwich before making any attempts at speaking. "Not in all the years I've known her," and Marlowe had known Gwen since the time they had both lived in San Diego when they were kids, that had been before she had moved to Sunnydale and left behind her best friend, "have I seen her in such a state, Wes. This thing with Skylar has really crushed her."
"I haven't known her as long, but she wasn't even like this through her first break up, when she called me in England." Which he had been there for...some reason. Couldn't remember it right now. It didn't matter. "I'm very worried about her, but she seems happier that you are here. Well, a little happier."
"Which is why I'm still here. Things might not have worked out for us as a couple, but Morrison had been and always will be my best friend. No way I'm gonna even think about leaving until I know for certain that she's back to the old Gwen," which might be a long time coming in Marlowe's opinion.
"I'm glad to hear that," Wesley said, sounding a little relieved. "However, that might be quite a while. So, I hope that, as some say, you're in it for the long haul." Gwen seemed to even have a set back recently, although he wasn't sure what caused it, since she hadn't wanted to talk.
"Damn straight I am, Wes." Marlowe informed the man before finishing off her sandwich. "And I actually think it's about time I had a chat with Morrison. I've tried letting her have a little bit of space, but know that I was here if she needed. But that doesn't seem to have worked as she always seems to be out somewhere," and half the time Marlowe didn't know where the hell that was.
"I think you and I both need to have a chat with Gwen," Wesley agreed. He wasn't going to stand by while she destroyed herself over Skylar. Whatever the girl's reasons for leaving Gwen, it wasn't enough for Gwen to basically let herself go.
"An intervention type thing," which Marlowe kind of thought was a good strategy, though Gwen might think otherwise taking it that they were ganging up on her, but some things just needed to be done. "or separate little chats with our favorite slayer?" And if Wes had voiced his thought Marlowe would be agreeing with him in that regardless of what happened between Gwen and Skylar and their break-up, it wasn't reason enough for Gwen to let herself go to shit.
"If we did a full intervention, I think we should involve a few other people as well," Wesley told her. "I wish she could see that she still has a lot in her life, even without Skylar. She has lots of friends who care for her, and don't want to find her dead drunk in a gutter somewhere."
"Well, I know she's still tight with Patience." As for other close friends Gwen still had, Marlowe wasn't quite sure about. And that really would be the main point of the intervention if they had it, to show Gwen that she still had a lot of her life to live and it was foolish of her to continue down the path of throwing it all away because of one person.
"Pat and Ash I know are two friends of hers as well, as well as Andrew Wells." Who had actually been around a lot lately. A little strange, since Wesley had figured he would avoid here like the plague for obvious reasons (Ami). "We could talk to them."
"I can hit up Ash and maybe Patience for a little chat about this if you wanna take this Pat guy and Andrew Wells." Marlowe said. If they were actually going to do this the sooner all to hopefully would be involved were spoken to the sooner they'd hopefully get through to Gwen. "And if it's okay with you I figure things could take place here as it's probably the one place we can get Gwen to be without drawing her suspicion that something is up."
"Yes, I can talk to those two," Wesley said. He also thought of Gwen's friend Faith, but she was very easy to find as well. He could get her as well. "I have no problem doing it here. And yes, the sooner we do this, the better." He hoped, anyway.
"Let's get these guys involved first and then try and work out a day that works for everyone." In Marlowe's view getting the small circle of people together on a specific day would be damn easy compared to the actual intervention involving Gwen. There was a good chance she'd fight them with everything she had with the feeling that they were all ganging up on her, but that was only Marlowe's silent opinion as the turnout would be unpredictable and could go anyway.
"I'm sure that we can get this done soon," Wesley said to her. He was sure of that because he knew that all of Gwen's friends were worried about her, and would be willing to try and get her on the straight and narrow again.
"We'll chat again in a couple days, then to formulate a more permanent plan after everyone to be involved has been contact." Marlowe offered. It'd give her a chance to contact Patience and Ash, and would allow Wesley to do the same with Pat and Andrew Wells.
Wesley nodded. He could only hope that this actually worked, and didn't just blow up in all of their faces.
