The Green-Eyed Monster
Who: Lucy and Ash
Where: Ash's apartment
When: Friday night
Lucy, for one, couldn't wait for the Thanksgiving break. She needed the vacation. It wasn't that she was dumb by any means, but she was a normal teenager and school, well, it wasn't her priority. Maybe it should have been - in another two years, she'd be applying to college and everything and good grades would help a lot - but for now, she had more important things on her mind...like parties and boys (or boy, singular) and friends and...sugar. She was combing her two favorites (boy and sugar) right at this very moment as she rested her head in Ash's lap and toyed with the blue raspberry lollipop she was currently sucking on. They were chillin' at his apartment, watching a movie and just, you know, being a normal couple.
"Lucy?" He asked, absently stroking her hair as he watched the TV. This kind of scene, with her just lazily hanging on him, it gave him the kind of inner calm and zen that most people only got through very good drugs. "Is it wrong that I almost keep expecting something bad to happen? I mean... things seem TOO good in my life right now."
"Wrong?" the blonde echoed around the candy in her mouth before pulling it out and turning onto her back to look up at him. "Bad like what? I don't think you should take the good things for granted, but why worry about what COULD happen, especially if you're just being pessimistic? Enjoy this. Good things DO happen to good people every once in a while, you know," she grinned as she teased, one of her hands lifting to catch his. "And you're a good person."
"It just feels weird. Even though my powers are being super slow coming back... my sister just got married, I have you, Buffy's totally forgiven me and even seems to want to get to know YOU now..." with a blink of his eyes, he shook his head, shaggy blonde hair shaking to and fro a bit. "It's eerie, almost."
Lucy didn't say anything about the Buffy thing - she highly doubted the Slayer wanted to get to know her...unless it was to become intimately acquainted with her weak spots. However.... "Stop," she laughed. "Think positively! Your sister's happy. You're happy. I'm happy. Can't...we all just be happy?"
"Ok, ok..." He knew she was probably right. She usually was, actually, in regards to him. "Just keep reminding me, ok? That my life's allowed to actually be good?" He had to make some kind of snarky little comment to her... just to show that he wasn't ALWAYS broody and sullen. "...are you laying in my lap sucking on a lollipop to drive me crazy or something, by the way?" And his voice was sweet enough that he knew she'd take it solely as the joke it was meant to be.
Grinning sweetly, she stuck her tongue and let the pink tip swirl around the rounded lollipop before sucking it back between her lips and giggling.
"You are the biggest tease, I swear." He gave her a playful thwap on the arm, and bent down to give her a loving kiss on the forehead. "My beautiful little beam of sunlight."
Her laughter turned soft as she withdrew the sucker again and gazed up at him. "Your life IS actually allowed to be good, Ash. And as long as I'm here, I'm going to do everything I can to try to make sure that you remember that. I like it too much when you smile to let you go all...." She feigned a glower and growled...which just sounded like an annoyed purr coming from her.
"Wow. You sure do know how to look fearsome." He said with mock sincerity. "Even with my powers, I don't think I'd mess with that. Seriously." He feigned holding his hands up in terror.
Of course, that made her giggle and she shoved him lightly with an elbow to his stomach. "Hey! I could be awfully evil if I wanted to be. I could stick my sucker in your hair and then you'd probably have to shave your head. Then what would people say, huh? Yeah. Yeah, I could be way mean!" And yet her fingers curled lazily in the front of his shirt and she pulled him down for a sweet little kiss...that tasted suspiciously like sugar and raspberries. Yeah. Evil.
"Well. I really can't compete with candy in the hair when it comes to sheer evil." He said with mock resignation. "I gotta say, Lucy... you always know how to make me laugh." He put his knuckles playfully to her head, giving her gentle noogies as he laughed. "Ya freakin' goober."
"Shut up," she laughed, wrinkling her nose at him as he ruffled her hair. "I'm the hottest goober you know. And you love me, so what's that make YOU? Goober-lover."
"I am a goober-lover, I gotta admit." Ash smirked, just imagining what a snarkfest Patience would likely have at Lucy's expense once they got to actually know each other. Patience didn't usually take 'cute' people with a grain of salt. "Like I told Meredith: I now have the hottest girlfriend and the hottest best friend around. I'm a lucky guy."
Lucy made a little bit of a face at that, but it passed quickly. It was more confusion than anything else. Of course she thought Mere was cool...if a little weird because of the whole, well, that undead kinda thing...which...still boggled Lucy's mind when she really thought about it...and she knew Mere and Ash had dated, not that it intimidated her or made her feel insecure, it didn't...she just...didn't feel like she had that much in common with the other girl. Aside from Ash...and guitars...and Chloe...and, okay, being hot. Their talk the other evening had just caught her off guard and she still wasn't a hundred percent sure what to make of it.
"So... My honey's gonna be a rock 'n roll goddess, hm?" He mused, thinking about her decision to reunite her band with her siblings. "Greaaat. Now I'll have to use my magic to fend off drooling guys everywhere..."
His words pulled her from her thoughts and she grinned impishly. "You could always fight 'em off the old fashioned way," Lucy suggested helpfully. But then she giggled again, which sort of undermined any possibility that she was being serious. "No, I want fans, that's true, but I doubt there'll be drooling guys anywhere near me. All they'd have to do is get a look at Chloe and then they'll be all Nica's problem!"
He thought about what she said, snickering as a thought hit him. "You know... Between you, Chloe, Rachelle, and Lexi.... lotta people are gonna start calling your brother the luckiest man alive, getting to tour with all those hot ladies..."
"I think Rachelle could tear any guy down who got annoying," she said, thinking of the redhead fondly. There'd been a time when Lucy had been a little afraid of her, just because Rachelle could be so brash, but now she was almost like another sister. One she'd missed. Of course, they were complete opposites, but that didn't matter. "Actually...she's such a tomboy and Chloe and Lexi...well...it's not like their relationships are a SECRET...I might get all the guys by default." She was teasing Ash, of course.
Sadly? That part of Ash that wasn't unlike Bill Bixby in the old Hulk show felt his temperature rise when she said that, and he could feel his eyes briefly turn black. "No other man will ever TOUCH you..." He whispered.
The blonde sat up slowly and turned to face him, her playful manner dropped momentarily. She'd sensed the shift in him more than she really noticed the way his eyes flashed black. Reaching out to him, her hand touched his cheek lightly and she smiled. "Hey," Lucy said softly, trying to draw his attention from his thoughts and back to the two of them. "You're the only one I ever want."
He quickly snapped back to normal, calmed by the soothing tone to her voice. "Sorry... I just... you're my life, you know? You're what makes my life worth living."
"Stop. That's not true. I mean...." She managed a small grin. "I'm not sorry I'm PART of what makes your life good, but...you're amazing, Ash. You make the WORLD better." Tucking her sucker back into her mouth, she scooted over to sit in his lap, her arms wrapping around his shoulders. "And you'll always have me."
"I better." His voice unintentionally grew darker again, and had she known him and Meredith back in Sunnydale, when Ash went crazy!mad!bonkers, his words would have chilled her to the core: "Because a world without you... Isn't a world worth living in."
Lucy ran her fingers through his hair and merely shook her head. "I don't wanna be without you, either."
He found himself holding her tighter after that, as though she were his lifeline, the one thing keeping him tethered to sanity. And scarily enough? She just might be. "I love you, Lucy."
