The Corrupter
Who: Mere and Ami
Where: Avarice
When: Christmas Eve
Mere sat at a table in the corner of Avarice. Sure, she could still be a social butterfly when necessary, but tonight, she more felt like watching than participating in the spectacle of life. She loved watching people grind up against each other in hopes of possibly taking someone home for the night. She never used to be quite the voyer, but she just blamed it on the whole 'not having a heart beat' thing. Besides, their weren't too many people in here tonight. It was Christmas Eve, so only the truly lonely and desperate were out and about. She just kind of liked watching the spectacle now. She also kind of hoped that someone she knew would come in, but she kind of doubted it.
Speaking of lonely, Ami was feeling that way herself. Gwen and Pat still had no idea who she was, and she and Skylar had agreed not to burden them with it until after Christmas. And consider the three were spending the evening together tonight, Ami decided to amscray and let them be. It'd be FAR too uncomfortable for her, being there and not able to tell them how much she missed them. So she found herself here, in a mostly empty club, wearing the same outfit she'd worn to the Christmas party (hey, she just got here from the future. Not like she's had time to shop much), and thanking god that normal music was playing. Christmas music would just depress her even more right now. She walked to the bar and ordered a bottle of spring water, smiling sweetly as it was given to her.
Now that was interesting. Skylar's 'friend' had just walked into the bar. Mere had figured that the woman would be spending the night with Skylar and Gwen, although, with Pat around, it couldn't have exactly been holly jolly, as bad as she felt for thinking that. Poor girl probably didn't know what she was getting into, coming over right now. Mere decided to leave her table of solitude for now, getting up and walking over silently toward Ami. "Surprised to see you out all by your lonesome," she said to her as she sat down next to her.
Ami spun around, startled a bit. She obviously didn't expect to know anyone, but when she heard the voice, she looked to her side and noticed the girl she'd briefly chatted with at the party. Mere, she said her name was? The name sounded familiar, but she obviously wasn't going to ask her why. "Oh... hi!" The thin blonde found herself fidgeting again. "Well... SkyM... Skylar's really the only person I'm friends with here, and she's sort of busy tonight. I didn't want to be in the way. So... it's just me and my stupid depression celebrating alone."
"You kind of came at...well, not a bad time, but...a bad time. Pat's in a rough kind of hell, and, well, the three of them are really close." Closer than he was to his wife, but not her place. You love who you love. Which is why Mere will never get married, along with the whole 'till death' thing might not come for a very long time for her. "Well, if you don't mind the company, you don't have to be alone tonight."
"Mind? Right now, I'd welcome it. Your name is Mere, right? Sorry... it's been a long week." Ami gave an apologetic look and nibbled her lower lip.
"Yeah, it's Mere. Ami, right?" She just smiled corruptively at her. Girl was gorgeous after all, and Mere certainly couldn't ignore that.
Ami just giggled lightly and nodded. "Yeah, good to see you remember names well." Ami was cutely having a hard time meeting Mere's eyes. Dammit, why did she do this!!!
"Well, I am good at remembering pretty faces," Mere told her, turning to the bartender for a second and ordered a drink. They had a house specialty called a 'Blood Rush' that Mere had grown quite found of as of late. It was mostly vodka and cranberry juice, with a few extra spices to give it a kick. Nothing as icky as it could be. Now, Caritas had similar drinks, but they usually actually packed blood in them.
"Not used to seeing, you know... people like you... that are friendly. It's a welcome change, though." Did she catch mere staring at her? Nah... she was imagining things, she knew it.
If Mere took offense, it didn't show at all. She took a sip of her newly arrived drink before replying. "Well, I enjoy being a bit of a surprise. So I don't feel like killing and rampaging. I kind of like humanity, actually." Especially when they produced such pretty girls like Ami.
"Good to hear..." if more were like her, Ami thought, maybe she wouldn't have to have come back to begin with. "Sorry for being such a weirdo at the party... I just get tongue-tied and blush a lot when..." yeah, she blushed again there. "Well, when I enjoy, you know, talking to someone."
"No need to apologize," Mere said, smiling at her. "I'm glad you enjoy talking to me. I certainly enjoy talking to you."
Ok, now she knew she wasn't imagining things. This girl was definitely hitting on her. She felt her ears turn red again, matching her cheeks. "Th-thanks... so, um.. c-come here often?" Oh gawwwwd... if her GwenMom had heard this pitiful flirting, she'd kick her square in the ass.
Mere never exactly was subtle. "A good bit, actually. I'm friends with the owner, and this really is the best metal club in town." It really might have been the only, for all Mere knew, but whatever.
"You're... you know... really pretty. But I guess you probably knew that. Not that I think you're conceited, I just mean..." Yep. Ramble-time was here.
"You're quite pretty yourself, Ami," Mere said to her. "You have to know that. You at least don't have my excuse of not having a reflection to look at every day." She grinned at her. It was a grin that said 'just say the word, and I'll wear out muscles you weren't even aware that you had.'
"I've just..." She stammered a bit, nibbling that lower lip again. "I mean, I know I'm at least kinda cute... but I hate saying it, and I guess I'm a goofball... I mean, my friends call me the dateless wonder, cuz I end up scaring everyone away with my rambling, like this, and seriously, chick flicks end up with more action than me."
"I find the rambling to be very cute, actually," Mere said, smiling at her. "It's other people's loss if they get scared away by it then. Too bad for them." And she wasn't lying to get under the girl's skirt, either. The rambling actually was endearing.
"Heh. Well, onnnne guy back home kinda liked it. Somehow he found my rambling to be kind of a turn on. Freak." But she said it with a wistful, cute laugh.
"There are worse types of freak to be," Mere told her, spinning her straw around in her drink. She smiled at Ami.
Ami had been wracking her brain, trying to think if Mere looked familiar from her time... but so far, nothing. So... no harm in flirting back, right? "Well, at least you don't find me annoying. So... score one for me!"
"Thinking about scoring tonight then, are you?" Mere asked with an arch of her eyebrow and a wicked grin. She definitely loved playing with the words of others sometimes.
"Ohmygod." Ami turned bright red there, and actually fanned herself to keep from falling into a giggle fit. "Ok, that came out SO wrong. And you are SO flirting with me just to screw with me and make me blush."
"Well, you *are* very cute when you blush," Mere told her, leaning onto one hand as she set her elbow onto the bar. She looked directly at Ami and said, "But that's not the only reason I'm flirting with you. I also find you attractive and interesting. Is that so hard to believe?" For some reason, being dead did make her a little more forward, if that were possible.
"I guess not? No?" Ami had grown up with all three parents telling her how beautiful she was, but she always had a hard time believing it. "Gotta admit, not every day I get hit on by a vampire."
"Well, it's probably not the greatest habit to make, unless you're with me, of course," Mere said with a grin. "I only bite when you ask me to, though, so you're safe with me."
Yep. Therrrrrre went the blush again. "Goodness... are you this forward with everyone?"
"I never was any good at anything but speaking my mind," Mere admitted. "I've never really seen the point in beating around the bush, so to speak. Why, does it bother you?"
She stated laughing there, actually. Considering how both of her mothers tended to talk, nothing honestly BOTHERED her. "No.. not at all, trust me, I've heard it ALL."
"Good to hear. Some people freak out when you're forward; mostly men, though." She took a sip of her drink. "Would you like anything to drink, by the way?"
"Nope... just here to get away for a little. And for now? The conversation is much better than a drink." She needed help with the flirting stuff, she knew. She could almost picture her moms both shaking their heads in dismay.
"Glad to hear that I'm a good conversationalist." Mere was tempted to say 'oralist,' but that was just too much for one night, and she might laugh in the middle of the delivery. "What do you need to get away from?"
"Oh, nothing on my part. M-... Skylar's got some personal stuff going on, and I think she and Gwen needed some time alone. So I got outta their hair for a while." Ami grinned and tilted her head back. "Now I just gotta find something to do for a few hours to avoid boredom."
"Pat's going through a rough time, really rough time, and those three are about as close as it gets," Mere said to her. "They'll help him through it." She smiled at her again. "Now, as for finding something to do, well...I've got a few ideas that could help with that."
D'oh... for once, Ami didn't quite get the innuendo, and walked RIGHT into it. "Really? Whatcha got in mind?"
Mere leaned over and whispered in her ear. While a bit too dirty to say in mixed company, let's just say that it involves whipped cream and red satin sheets. "Up for it?" she asked when she leaned back.
Ami looked back at her, eyes wide and blinking. She was terrified, but she unfortunately fell back on the WWGD (what Would Gwen Do) philosophy. "I just know I'm gonna regret this... but sure."
"I promise, no regrets," Mere said, standing up and offering her hand. "Like I said, no breaking out fangs or anything like that." She had the strangest feeling that Skylar would stake her if she did.
"This.... is gonna be the weirdest Christmas of my life. I can feel it..." Ami silently wondered what the fuck she was doing as they walked away...
