An Offer You Can't Refuse
Who: Ben and Lilly
Where: Avarice
When: Tuesday Night
Lilly sat at a table at Avarice, nursing a drink as she listened to the songs that the DJ was spinning from the booth in the corner. For all of the insanity that seemed to be revolving around this place, it was still a pretty good club. It made some good drinks, and it spun some good music. You really couldn't ask for too much more out of any one club.
"Well. Look who decided to grace us with her presence tonight." Ben was walking up to the bar, hands in his pockets, that so-smug-you-want-to-punch-him look on his face. He leaned against the bar, smirking at her. "Can't say I'm used to seeing you girls here..."
"Well, I wasn't intending on gracing you with a damn thing, but whatever," Lilly said with a smirk on her face. "Figured I'd give this place a try on my own, for once."
"Glad to see you, actually. I've been wanting to talk to you and Ginnifer, to be honest. About possibly signing on with my new label." Why beat around the bush? "I want to give you girls the break you deserve."
She arched an eyebrow at him. This was the first that she had been hearing about this. Then again, Ginny was probably still mulling it over if she had been asked first. "The break we deserve?" Lilly asked. "You're damn right about that. What are you so interested for?"
"Maybe because you girls have a great sound? Jesus... do I really have to have an ulterior motive?" He actually looked remotely aggravated there. "I'm not the monster everyone makes me out to be, you know."
"No, we just expect it," Lilly told him. "You might be engaged, but it'll take some getting used to to not think of you as a complete cad, remember?"
"Just because I enjoy the company of lovely ladies such as yourself..." he added that last part with a salacious wink (hey, he could still flirt, you know), "doesn't mean I'm a bad guy. And I think your band and myself could make each other a LOT of money."
"I'm a lesbian, so don't expect to ever enjoy my company that way," Lilly said to him. Just so that he'd know. Apparently no one else knew. "Don't mind working for a man who likes money, though. What sort of deal are you cooking up?"
"Something that will please Ginnifer as well as you all. An arrangement that will give donations to battered women's foundations for every concert you play at one of my clubs, and every CD you sell." He bit his lip a little hating that he had to go through all this, but also knowing the band was worth it. "Lexi is supposed to talk to Ginnifer about it."
"Well, I know Ginny will love that." Lilly knew that Ginny was all about helping other women who couldn't help themselves. "I don't think that it sucks, either." Hearing that Lexi was supposed to talk to Ginny about it wasn't that surprising, either. Him and Lexi were friends, after all.
"I'm hoping hearing it from Lexi will make it easier. Your friend... isn't my biggest fan." He smirked, trying his best not to flirt. "And of all of you... I see tons of mainstream appeal in your guitarist."
"Well, you represent a lot of things that she hates," Lilly pointed out to him. "No offense or anything, but she's all about female power, and you run a strip club." Lilly personally had no opinion about Ben. She just didn't care enough about him to really have one. "Stephanie does have a lot of appeal." That actually elicited a small smile from her.
"She's a beautiful girl, yet goofy and fun enough to seem approachable to the fans who might be attracted to her." Clearly, Ben had thought about every facet of this. "There's a lot to be said for approachability."
"Trust me, I know," Lilly pointed out to him. She knew that she wasn't approachable, though. She came off as the female terminator. Didn't bother her, though. Just one of those things that she knew.
"I can identify with you though. More than the others." Never one to sugarcoat anything, Ben just called it as he saw it. "You'll do anything it takes to get ahead, and damn what anyone thinks. I think you're probably the most sensible of your group."
"Yeah, I will," she replied simply. "I don't mind working with you. Like I said, nothing personal against you." Besides, Ben Bale definitely had the money to put behind them to make them huge. Couldn't ague with money.
"Well then. As long as your frontwoman decides to give my label a chance... I can say I look forward to working with you." Oh, he was biting his tongue. He wanted so badly to flirt... but he was trying to be professional here.
If he had flirted, she'd have just shot him down again. Nothing she wasn't practiced with, anyway. "I can talk to her, too, if she's still on the fence." Lilly certainly wanted this to go through. When were they going to get another chance like this?
"Glad to hear you're being so smart about this. Here, take this." He reached into his pocket, handing her his business card. "Talk to her, and call me. I can promise you... None of you will be disappointed with the money involved."
She took the business card and pocketed it. "You know Ginny will want to talk to you personally before she says yes to anything," Lilly pointed out. "She'll probably want to hear it from your own lips."
