Maybe a teeny bit serious
WHO: Xander and Janie, OT medical personnel
WHEN: Tuesday night, 03 Nov 00
WHERE: The Marchese apartment
Janie was still sleeping a lot and behaving a lot more quietly than normal. Since her return she spent a lot of time with Xander and friends, and always seemed on the look out for something. At the moment, she kept looking at Xander like she wanted to say something, then looking out of the window, at her hands, at the ends of her hair- anything, anywhere but him.
Xander had been as helpful as he could, but he knew something was amiss, something that Janie wasn't telling him.
"Xander... can I, um. Ask you something?" She wondered if he knew that something was bothering her. Janie might be smart, but sometimes the girl was completely clueless. She didn't know what the problem was with asking him to stay in her room at time, or why he seemed to act so odd with the simplest requests.
"You can ask me anything," Xander said. "But if it has anything to do with Star Wars Underoos, I plead the fifth."
"What was wrong with those?" she asked "It was because they didn't have the complete back? Most of the products in the shop were like that."
Xander opened his mouth but decided there was absolutely nothign he could add to that topic without getting into trouble. "So," he said with enthusiasm, "what did you want to ask me?"
"Do... you know doctors, that will not ask questions?" She hated to ask for help, but wasn't sure what else to do "Also, I am worried that someone will come after me, you, or our friends."
"I ... umm ... what" Doctors? What's wrong?"
"I don't like them." Janie said "But something happened when I was gone. I think it's getting worse." she raised her shirt enough to show him the wound on her side.
Xander went pastier than usual and raised his eyebrows. "That looks really bad ... and painful. Why didn't you say anything? What happened?"
"I thought it would improve." She let her shirt back down "I tried to escape and was shot. It still might get better."
"You got shot? That's not something that gets better all by itself, is it?"
"No... but I've been keeping it clean. I thought- I'm not sure. None of you need anything else to worry about."
"We do if you're in trouble," Xander said. "I think I heard Vito say something about doctors helping the Council, maybe there's someone who could take a look at you."
"Those are not just for Slayers?" she asked "If there's an injection or a pill that'll make this better I'll take it... and they won't report me to the police."
"We're ... there's ... not just a pill that can make a gunshot wound get better," Xander said, scratching his head.
"Not yet?" She asked
"No, not yet. We need to get you some help."
"I don't like asking for help." she said
"Even in a matter of life and death?"
"This won't be that serious" Denial? Just a bit.
"You got shot," Xander said. "Does that sound maybe a teeny bit serious to you?"
"Worse is survived all the time." Janie tried defending herself "Just a little serious because it's still painful."
"And maybe getting infected, or something. Let's see if we can find someone to patch you up."
She nodded, but put her head down. "After I get a nap?"
"No," Xander said. "Right now."
"...Okay." She agreed, though she really wanted the nap.
Xander left her only momentarily, to talk to Vito, who nodded and called one of the Council’s medical corps. This might not be Slayer business, but the questions it would raise at the hospital had to be avoided.
