New Friends?
Who: Jamie and Gwen
Where: Chloe's Sugar Shack
When: Monday Afternoon
Gwen felt like she was at a crossroads in her life. She was somehow both sad and mad about the situation with her marriage now. She was torn between still loving Skylar and wanting to punch her in the face. She wanted both to get drunk and hide, and to strut her stuff and move on. All the while, Lorne's words were ringing in her ears. Deciding to display her newest show that she was ready to move on, the slayer had put on a camisole top that was almost backless, to show the changes in her nearly back-covering tattoo. Walking into The Sugar Shack, she grabbed a menu and sat down at a table, trying to figure out what she wanted to do today.
Jamie had come to this place on the recommendation of Lydia. She liked to drink a lot of coffee, way too much for a growing seventeen year-old, probably, and she liked to be in relative peace when she wanted to write. Of course, Chloe's Sugar Shack was anything but quiet, but Jamie was pretty good at tuning out surrounding noise. She happened to look up when someone walked into the shop, and while only catching the back of her, fully noticed the tattoo on the woman's back. Well, some people were certainly not subtle. Still, even though it was obvious that it was fresh, Jamie still thought that it was pretty. Not something that she could sit through, though.
Gwen noticed someone looking at her from her periph, and turned to give the beautiful blonde a wink. While not exactly her reason for coming here... maybe flirt-time was about to start a little early.
Jamie blushed a little but smiled back. "I like your tattoo," she said softly.
"Thanks, gorgeous. Just had it changed, actually." Subtle? Gwen? Never. "You alone? 'Cause ya don't have to be..."
Might as well make more friends. "Sure, want to join me?" she asked, shutting her notebook.
"Like you don't even KNOW." Jesus. Not holding back, was she? She hopped up with agile grace, striding over to the girl's table. "Got a name, babe?"
"Jamie Thompson," she said, holding out her hand to the other blond. "What's yours?"
"Gwen Morrison." She replied, raising a brow at the strength in that handshake. "Damn... Work out a lot girl? That's some serious muscle."
She shrugged. She still didn't know her own strength, actually. "Just the usual stuff," she said, sounding a little avoidy.
Hm. Her slayer-sense was going off a bit. Maybe she should have Wesley do some research on the girl? "So what're you up to on this fine, fine afternoon?" She asked with audible sarcasm which stated that to Gwen, this day was anything but fine.
Jamie felt something herself, but, not being up on her own Slayer abilities, had no idea what to make of it. With the sun coming in, she figured that the girl wasn't a vampire. Other than that, though...no clue. "Putting off thinking about homework until tonight mostly," she said with a slight smile. "What about you?"
"Homework?" She asked, having forgotten about THAT nightmare. "High school or college? And as for me... Honestly? I'm planning on going out, trying to forget my ex, and meet plenty of gorgeous women."
"High School, Jamie answered. She had noticed what her tattoo said, so hearing that she was getting over an ex? Not so strange. Hearing that she wanted to meet gorgeous women? Well, not really THAT strange, being in LA. "Well, good luck with meeting gorgeous women," Jamie told her, blushing again just a tad.
"Well, I'd say my day's off to a good start there so far..." Gwen winked again noting that blush. Please, she thought, at least be close to legal? "So what's your deal... you got anyone special in yer life? And damn... how old are you? I had you pegged for like, 19 or 20!"
"No one special, just moved here, actually," Jamie said. She had only made one friend so far, although she seemed to be on her way to making at least one more. "I'm 17. Don't know why you had me pegged for older, but OK."
"Um... Ever look in a mirror? You're fuckin' built, girl!" Again... Gwen wasn't made of subtle. "For real. You're totally hot. And if yer new here... then honey? Consider me your welcoming committee."
That actually made her laugh a little. "I know I'm not a troll, but it's different being surrounded by all the gorgeous girls of LA." She looked down at her own t-shirt and jean shorts. "I'm not exactly fashionable or anything. Kind of makes me stand out, in the wrong way at school." She smiled at Gwen. "Guess I've got a good welcoming committee."
"Sweetheart, you don't even KNOW." Gwen grinned with a loud laugh. "If yer not too afraid of being hit on mercilessly by me all day, you're welcome to join me..."
She smiled a little more. "I guess I could live with that," she said to Gwen.
"What kinda music ya like babe?" Gwen asked with a sweet giggle. "We got a few GREAT clubs around here, each that specialize in a different type a' music. And what kinda stuff do you like to do?" Geez, she hadn't had to flirt in so long it felt stiff and forced now.
"Well, a little bit of everything, actually. I'm not really picky." She looked at Gwen. "What do you listen to?"
"I'm a big rock gal m'self..." She eyed the blonde up, giving a big, mischievous, toothy smile. "We should hit Avarice. Two out of the three owners are cool people."
"What's Avarice?" Jamie asked. "Is that some club in LA or something?"
"Dude. It's pretty much THE club in LA, if you're into rock. One of the owners is currently stuffing my ex like a thanksgiving turkey, so, I kinda wanna throw 'em both out a motherfuckin' window, but..." Yep. That's our Gwen. Just says whatever's on her mind. "the other owners are cool. And the club's awesome."
Jamie nodded. "Then I should probably go there sometime then." She wasn't sure what to think of the res of it, but it at least sounded like it played good music.
"Seriously. And if a guy named Ben hits on you? Just... just walk the fuck AWAY. He fucks anything that moves, for real." Was she saying anything untrue? NO.
Jamie nodded. "Sure, anyone named Ben hits on me, I'll run in the other direction." Not that she really liked guys anyway, but they usually didn't bother her, either.
"You said yer new around here?"She kinda just thought of it, but... never too late to say something. "You really should try to make sure you... either don't go walking late at night, or have friends with you. Lotta... lotta violence round here."
Jamie arched an eyebrow at her. The Watcher that had come to see her had told her that there were others. Too bad that he hadn't exactly told her a code word or anything nice like that. "Um...if this sounds stupid, then just ignore it, but are you a Slayer?"
"What did Teen People do a damn article or something?" Ok, so Gwen knew she inadvertently screwed some things up when she was 'up there', but had she made their existence so damn well-known?
"Um...no, nothing like that," Jamie said. Well, she hadn't said no. "I got approached by something called a Watcher and told that I was one of the girls who had become a Slayer when they did some sort of spell. I think a vampire found out before they did, because one tried to jump me in front of my house. Luckily, I grabbed a piece of wood and shoved it through its chest." She did not mention the prompt throwing up and fainting right after that, though.
"Get the fuck out." Gwen said with a snort. Jesus... ther really WERE shipping every damn Slayer they found out here to Giles now, weren't they? "Well damn. Now I feel bad about the crap I just said to you about my ex. I shouldn't be starting any more drama..."
"Well, I don't know your ex, so what does that have to do with anything?" Jamie asked.
"Oh. Yeah. Well.. she's sorta one of us too." Gwen admitted sheepishly. "We had like.. the most talked-about breakup since... since... crap, I dunno. I haven't been up on my media gossip lately. But it was bad."
"Tom and Nicole?" Jamie offered up. "Sounds pretty bad if it was like that. I'm really sorry that she treated you like that."
"Eh. It happens. Haven't had anyone yet that hasn't cheated on me or walked out on me." She shrugged, not even looking for pity. She was just starting to see how things worked in her life. "Maybe that's my lot in life: finding all the shitty ones so you
"That...really shouldn't be the lot in anyone's life, Gwen," Jamie said to her. "Not every person out there is going to screw around on you, and not every person you get interested in is going to leave you."
"Maybe, maybe not. Not even trying to be cynical here... but my track record kinda speaks for itself." She laughed, rolling her eyes. "Still. You're sweet, though. So... have you met the people in charge out here yet?"
Jamie shook her head. "I've only really been in town a couple of days so far," she admitted. "I don't think they actually have a Watcher or whatever to train me yet."
"Shit, we'll work on that one fast. My Watcher is one of the more... higher-up guys in the new setup." Was she actually bragging about Wes? Aw. "Stick with me, we'll get you set DAMN quick."
"Well, I was planning on sticking with you anyway, so guess we're good then," she said, smiling at Gwen.
"Ya were, were ya?" Gwen asked with a slightly surprised laugh. And was that a hint of a blush on her cheeks? "Why's that, if ya don't mind my asking?"
"You're nice, you seem very interesting," Jamie listed off. "I don't know. You seem like someone I can trust."
"Well, you can definitely trust me." Gwen said ruefully. "It's not like I can afford to alienate anyone right now."
Jamie smiled at her. "I don't think that's why I can trust you, but we'll start off with that then if you're so insistent."
