Honeymoon's Over (But I Still Love You)
Who: Pat and Patience
Where: Their home
When: Sunday afternoon (November 1)
It felt both good and weird to be home again. The whole time Pat and Patience had been away on their honeymoon, they'd barely thought about anything but themselves. But now... being home again, it felt like allllll the drama and the badness had waited for them. He forced it out of his mind though, especially after hearing from Wesley that Gwen seemed to be at least starting to heal. Now maybe his new wife wouldn't seem so... hellbent on vengeance. Stretched out on the sofa, the suitcases still sitting in the hallway (he'd unpack later, when he wasn't so overwhelmed), he looked around, trying to remember where the hell they'd put the remote control before they left. Why was he down here, you ask? He was waiting. There was a delivery coming. Not that Patience knew about it...
Pat may have been more than willing to wait to unpack and get the menial things sorted out - like separating the dirty laundry from the clean - but patience figured she'd rather get it out of the way, so while she was on the phone with Gwen, she'd already started getting that business out of the way. Hey, she was a wife now, she had to be at least a little domestic, right? After she'd finally hung up the phone and put the empty suitcases back into the closet did she change out of her traveling clothes and into a pair of boxers and one of Pat's wifebeaters, pulled her hair up into a ponytail and skipped out to the living room where Pat was already on the couch in front of the TV. "You look...comfy."
"Well... I'm waiting. Your main wedding gift from me should be getting here any minute now. You'll understand why I had to wait when it gets here." He looked smug, like he just KNEW the gift was going to melt her into a puddle of goo, and she could do nothing about it.
Casting him a suspicious look, she sat down next to him and curled her legs under her. "Your MAIN wedding gift? Like I don't have enough already?" She smiled and leaned over to kiss his cheek before propping her elbow up on the back of the couch and resting her head in her hand. She yawned quietly and closed her eyes, happy to be home...but already missing the stress-free existence of it being just the two of them.
"Well, had to get you a gift other than all the great sex, you know..." he joked, about to say more when the doorbell rang. "Whoops... hold that thought, babe... I'll be right back."
"Psh!" Patience scoffed. "I'm pretty sure that was more like my gift to you." Of course, when the doorbell rang, she could do little more than watch him go. She didn't have the energy to chase after him, jump on his back, and find out what in the world he'd planned. Although...the thought did cross her mind.
She could hear Pat talking under his breath to somebody, and then something that sounded like the metal moving. Then? under the sound of Pat thanking whoever was there for dropping it off... she could hear what sounded like the excited pattering of tiny, tiny feet. Finally, he opened the door, and in came bounding a tiny, big-eyed yellow lab puppy, his little tongue poking slightly from his mouth.
Patience gasped when she saw the puppy and all of a sudden, she was off of the couch and kneeling on the floor, arms scooping up what was pretty much the cutest puppy ever alive EVER. "OH MY FUCKING GOD, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!" She nuzzled the top of the dog's soft little head and heard his...her?...tiny yelp, felt the wet little lick, and giggled.
"Come on. You've been talking about wanting a dog since you first came back. Like I was gonna deny you that?" He smiled warmly, watching her with the dog. "I bought him a day before the wedding, but obviously, someone needed to care for him while we were away. And I wanted you to be able to actually spend some time with him when you got him."
"Oh God, he's just the cutest thing I've ever seen. Aside from you, of course," she grinned. "Paaaat." She nuzzled the puppy again, then rocked back on her heels and stood up with the little dog in her arms as she walked over o her oh-so-wonderful husband and kissed him softly. "I love him. Already. Almost as much as I love you. Just...in a different way."
"Well, I'd hope so." He said with a snort, trying not to ruin the moment with a sick joke. "Any idea what you're gonna name him?"
She thought for a moment and scratched the dog's head absently. "Hmmm. It'd probably be in bad taste to name him Ben, right?" She glanced down at the puppy. "No, you don't like that anyway, do you?" She rubbed her nose against his and laughed.
"Yeah, we should... avoid naming it after someone you HATE, honey." Still, he snickered there, shaking his head. "I figure... once you set him down for a while, you can properly thank me then." Dear god... were all newlyweds this insatiable?
Patience's expression of that was patently humorous. "Not in front of the puppy! He's practically a baby!" She clutch the dog protectively and shot Pat a look that seemed to suggest he might be crazy. Was she joking? Okay...but only a little.
He couldn't help but laugh. She was TOO cute with the puppy. He knew how badly she wanted one... how could he ever deny her anything he could afford to give her? "Come on... let's go get him set up downstairs. Right before we left I put a little bed and some newspaper in the basement. Once he's housetrained he can sleep anywhere you want."
"Oh, sure. Anywhere. You're already sticking him in the basement...where he'll be scared and all alone. See? THIS is one more reason we're not having kids yet." Even SHE had to laugh as soon as she said that and she stopped to kiss his cheek again, her gaze softening. "Thank you, baby. He's so adorable and cute and...snuggly. At least I'll have SOMETHING to keep me company when you're not around."
"Hey, I love dogs. Always have. So it's not like this is hard on me. But..." he smiled and kissed her softly, reaching to scratch the pup's head gently. "You're welcome, love. Very welcome."
"Just remember you said that when he's sleeping in YOUR spot," Patience grinned.
"It won't matter. Because we'll both be sleeping in YOURS." He winked at her. "Not like we're not gonna be snuggled together the entire time. Or possibly having sex." He then looked at the puppy, looking into those big, brown eyes. "And speaking of which... you, little guy, are gonna take a nap for a little while. Mommy and Daddy have to have some fun. But when we're done? We will play with you until that little tail's ready to fall off from exhaustion."
"That's so not fair!" she pouted. "I just got him. I wanna play NOW!" Hey, the girl was still only nineteen...for a whole 5 more days. Our little dead girl was growing up. Married with a semi-family of her own. My, how things changed. Still, with a heavy, melodramatic sigh, she kissed his head and set him down in the dog bed, not sure what they'd come down to find later since he wasn't house trained yet and he was still in a new place. "Fine. But I'm giving you 45 minutes tops," she told Pat, a gleam of amusement in her gaze.
"Please. Look at you. Like I'll need more than 30." He laughed with an honest blush, taking her hand to lead her upstairs.
