Dark Times Ahead
Who: Gwen and Wesley
Where: Wesley's Home
When: Wednesday Morning
Wesley was sitting in his living room, doing some minor research on a demon that some sources had said that had settled in the area recently. He was trying to figure out if it would be hostile to them or not. He didn't realize anything was up. Poor thing.
While it was usually earlier than Gwen even woke up (she was rarely up before the crack of noon, thanks), there she was, knocking on the front door of Wesley's place. Patience had thankfully helped calm her a lot... but she still felt ready to cry at the drop of a hat again. She knew two things: One - Wesley had to know about what had happened, and Two - she was going out tonight and fucking the first person that even LOOKED at her right.
It was a little early to be, well, anyone that he really knew, so it was a surprise to hear the knock on the door. To see that it was a Gwen that looked like she had been through hell, well, that was a different thing. "Gwen? What's wrong?"
"Wes?" She didn't even know how to word it... so she merely held up her now-ringless finger and tried not to cry.
His eyes widened when he saw her ring finger and what she was signifying, and he gently pulled her inside, shutting the door behind her. Instead of saying anything at first, he just pulled her into a hug.
"God, Wes... she was so... so vicious. She blamed me for everything... for leaving, for changing things... even though I did what I had to, to stop existence from falling apart." She just hugged him, the closest thing she had anymore to a father. "She's been cheating on me, Wes. For a week or so now."
"I'm so sorry, Gwen," he said, still hugging her. "I can't believe that she would think such a thing. You did what you did because you had to, not because you wanted to. I don't know why she would think to blame you for everything."
"When we met... I gave up my ways, I gave myself to ONLY her... and she goes and cheats on me with... " she almost gagged a little there, "with Benjamin Bale."
Wesley actually pulled back when she said who it was. "Um...this sounds dumb, but I thought she was gay, except, for, you know...Pat?" He didn't mean to rub it in, but hearing that was confusing.
"Just another lie, I guess. Like our whole relationship." Gwen snorted, shaking her head sadly. "I slapped her, then she took Bella and left for... for his place." Finally letting go, she backed up a few steps. "This is gonna be bad, Wes. Patience is RIPSHIT over this... and you know if she tries anything, Skylar will tear her apart."
"Then you had better spell that out to her," Wesley pointed out, pulling Gwen over to the sofa. "I hate to say it, but, if she does anything, she'll manage to find a way to alienate the entirety of the Bale family. I'd rather not deal with them, if one of them helped treat you this way, and I know that Giles *hates* Ben with a passion that I didn't understand...until now anyway." Oh yeah, now he was feeling it. "Do you think that maybe he went after her while she was vulnerable? She hasn't been herself lately, either."
"Funny enough... I don't blame Ben. He's never made a secret of wanting her. But Skylar's a strong woman..." Gwen scowled, knowing where her anger really was. "If he fucked Skylar... it's because she wanted him to. I won't believe anything else."
He nodded. "You very well may be right," he said to her. "I'm terribly sorry about this. Where are you staying? With Pat and Patience?"
"For now, yeah... I don't... I don't really know where else to go. But I can't stay there... they're about to married. I ain't gonna sit there and be a royal cockblock now..." She sighed, not even trying to be crass. It was just her way.
"You know that you are more than welcome here," he said to her. He had two guest rooms, so she wouldn't even have to use the one that Ami had used before. "It would be nice to live together again. This place is too quite." He was secretly thanking every god he knew that he had the sense to destroy every tape that Gwen and Skylar made to stick in his VCR after the initial scare right now.
"Wes..." Gwen tried not to start bawling again. "I... I just wanna die. I've never felt like that before. I don't hate Skylar. I don't... I don't feel anything, except a desire to NOT BE HERE."
He stroked her hair a little. "You shouldn't feel things like that." He had a few things to say to those two if he ever got the chance. "I want you to be here, Gwen."
"Glad someone does." She buried her face in Wesley's chest and sniffled a little. "She used to love me so much... I just wanna know what I did to make her stop..."
"I don't think you did anything, Gwen," Wesley said to her, still stroking her hair a little bit. "I think this might be a problem more with Skylar than with you."
"You really sure you don't mind takin' care of my broke ass again? Oh. And I kinda stole the cat. He's running around the house somewhere right now." She said sheepishly, forcing a small grin.
He actually laughed a little when she said that she took Artemis with her. "No, I don't mind at all," he said to her. "Although I'm not so sure about the hairball," he joked. He feared for his furniture's life.
"And on my way out..." she admitted, blushing a little. "I might have, you know, taken a dump on Skylar's carpet."
He really shouldn't condone an act like that. It was immature and would only start another fight between these two, like stealing the cat. He couldn't help it, though, he laughed again. He was just relieved to here that she still had a little of the Gwen spark in her, even under all the hurt. "I'm sure she can afford a carpet cleaner," he said finally.
"Wes, you realize our marriage was never even technically legal? Means I can't even get any money out of this. I'm literally back to being poor again, overnight." This REALLY bothered her. "I'm gonna have to get a freakin' JOB now."
"No, don't even worry about getting a job," Wes said to her, serious again. "It's Los Angeles, Gwen. If you really want, I'm sure we can find a way to figure some sort of spousal arrangement out. Visitation rights, too."
"Fucking right I'm getting visitation rights." Gwen, for once, got that fire back there. "She can take the money, she can take the house... but if Skylar thinks she's taking my daughter from me... bitch got another thing fucking coming."
"I don't think she'd try that, but Skylar just seems full of surprises as of late," Wesley said, sounding a little bitter at that. "I'll make sure that she doesn't even try. Worse comes to worse, she *can't* take away visitation from Pat, and I know he'll let you see her with him as well." He prayed it wouldn't come to that, though.
"So... where do you keep the booze now?" She asked, looking around sadly. "I need to get fucked up in the worst possible way.
"I actually haven't kept any around since you got back," he admitted. "I've discovered that I'm too much of a sad drunk to really do so."
"God dammit." She muttered. "Fine. Tomorrow morning I'm going to the liquor store and charging a shitload to Skylar's credit card before she remembers I have it."
"I actually wouldn't blame you," he admitted. "Might as well buy a lot of other stuff on it, too, while you're at it." He really shouldn't encourage her, but he wasn't feeling too generous toward Skylar at this point.
"You're a good man, Wes. I'm proud to think of you like my dad." She sniffled again, hugging him with all the strength of a wet noodle.
