It All Goes Wrong Again
Who: Wesley and Giles
Where: Giles's Home
When: Wednesday Night
Wesley had to talk to someone that might understand what he was going through at the moment. He was fairly certain that, if he let himself just sit around for too long, he was going to explode and go to try and kill Ben Bale. Of course, talking to the man that might hate him more than he did right now might not exactly discourage that feeling, but Wesley knew that he was going to lose it if he didn't talk to someone, and Liz was on a shift at the hospital. He'd talk to her when she was done with work and maybe a little rested, but this was something that he needed to get out of him NOW.
He drove over to Giles's place once he got Gwen settled and calmed down a little, parked his car, and walked up to Giles's door and rang the doorbell. The man's car was in the driveway, so he knew that he would be around in some capacity. Hopefully, he wouldn't be waking the man up.
Giles was awake at the moment, having had to deal not only with helping acclimate Jaide to the area, but also with an extremely moody Faith.
Needless to say, he was still surprised to see Wesley out there. Opening the door, he removed his glasses and gave a tired smile.
"Wesley. What brings you by this evening?"
"We have a problem, Giles," Wesley said. There was no smile on his face. "I think I finally understand your hatred for Benjamin Bale." Sad, that it took him this long to realize what a sleaze he could really be. "I think we should talk."
"...dear lord." Giles felt his eyes widen. While Faith hadn't told him anything that happened, his mind immediately went to the most insidious places possible. "Did he turn against us? Are we... to be against the family now?"
"I don't think we're fully at war with them, no," Wesley answered. "I do believe that Faith did torch his desk, though, from what I heard." He walked through the door, no invitation needed for him. Wesley sighed and sat down on the sofa. He looked a little out of sorts himself. "He broke up the marriage of Gwen and Skylar, Giles."
"He..." Giles looked speechless there. That would explain a lot. But the fact that Faith wasn't currently in jail said one thing: "...I somehow don't think Faith knows the entire story yet, or I suspect she'd have done worse than that."
"No, I don't believe she does, or that club might be on fire," Wesley said bluntly. "Her and Gwen are also friends, so that would just add to the destruction." He shook his head. "I still can't believe Skylar did this. I keep telling myself that maybe he took advantage of her considering her condition right now, but I'm starting to really think that's not the case." He looked up at Giles. "I thought I knew her better than this, Giles. I really did."
"Skylar... is not the type of young woman Benjamin COULD take advantage of. If Faith were here right now I would tell her... But I sadly have no clue where she is right now."
Giles looked as though he might be sick.
"We need to calm this situation quickly, before this can turn into a war."
"I know that you're right, but you can't blame me for being hopeful that this was a mistake," Wesley said, sounding defeated. "We should find Faith soon. She might have found out from someone else, because you and I both know that the Slayer gossip line runs very quickly." Wesley himself was sure that most of them already knew. "I hope we can calm this quickly."
"All we can hope for is the other slayers to be mature about this, even if Gwen and Skylar can't be."
It may have sounded cold, but Giles had to look at the big picture here.
"Well, some might be, and some might not be. That's something that we need to prepare for," Wesley said. "And Gwen has had her heart broken. I don't think that 'maturity' is even in her thoughts right now." He looked down for a second. "I think we may need to pull her off of active Slayer duty for a while. Until things settle a bit."
"I concur." Giles said with a nod. "Pull her from active duty for the next week. See how she's coping then." He didn't want to take the girl's livlihood away, but he also knew that she had to be alright to do this without being killed.
"I hate to do it, but I think it might be for her own safety," Wesley said, still looking down. "You might want to consider doing something similar with Faith. I don't know her like you do, though." He knew that Faith and Ben didn't have the history that Skylar and Gwen had, but he also knew that Faith had a nasty temper.
"I need to talk to her. Anger... is different from depression. If I can get her to channel the anger, it might not be an issue. But if it turns to blind rage... she will be pulled as well." Oh gods, he hoped it didn't come to that. He really didn't look forward to THAT conversation.
Wesley nodded. "That is true. Anger can be channeled." He finally looked back up at Giles. "What are we going to do? These girls are going to have to work together at some points, not to mention some of the more personal connections that they have." Dear gods, poor Bella. Both versions. Was this meant to be, or was it another time line hiccup that occurred?
"We'll keep them apart for a while. See if time heals this at all. If not... then we may have to take steps to force them to be at least civil to one another." He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Now I understand the old Council's regulations about keeping the Slayer out of relationships, out of a normal life. It's unfair... but far less messy."
"If you tried that with a one of these girls, they'd break our necks," he pointed out. "It's a different era now. Something like that just really can't be done." He gave a slightly bitter chuckle. "This isn't even the first time I've gone through this with Gwen. This is the third break up I've helped nurse her through, and I talked her through another situation similar to it." He thought about Patience for a moment when he said that. "Maybe that old rule would have helped in these situations. Still, I don't think we'd have the same caliber of girls if we did that."
"True enough... do you really think damage control with this situation is possible? We've come so far with this..." He looked genuinely worried.
"Keeping them apart for a while would be best, at least for now," he said. "I hope that it's enough, too. There's only so much that we can do. The rest is left to them."
"Then by all means... you handle Gwen. I'll take care of Faith... and we'll make sure Skylar is talked to as well." He nodded, offering a hand to Wesley.
Wesley shook it. "I'd talk to her myself, but I'm afraid I'm too angry with her right now myself to do it. Has she even met her new Watcher yet?"
"Don't worry. We'll... get this taken care of." He said with a stern nod. "Trust me."
