A Relaxing Evening for Two
Who: Liz and Wesley
Where: Liz's Home
When: Sunday Evening (Backdated)
What a long friggin' day. Elizabeth had been doing everything in her power to feel out the people she worked with, see if any of them seemed like possible candidates for her new idea to help the Slayers and their allies. While she had a few that seemed like possibilities, she needed to read them a little more first. Now that Alice was likely on her side, she needed to think about more than just herself. So she was grateful for the distraction of having Wesley over tonight, as even when they 'talked shop', just his presence seemed to calm her. She looked over at him from her seat on the sofa, and gave a thankful sigh. "You know... I really *do* love having you here, Wesley."
Wesley smiled at her. He realized that what Liz was doing for them was such a great thing. They really did need at least a few doctors on hand for the major injuries, just so that they wouldn't have to make up excuses to the ER, or just letting the girls heal naturally. "I love having you here as well, Liz. Or, well, I love being around you."
"Hey... I told you before: whoever it was that drew you to me... I'm grateful to her forever. And I'm doing my best to keep you happy. God knows you need it in your line of work." She gave a sad smile. "And at least Selinda finally seems happy."
"I think Selinda is doing well. I think Giles assigned her the right person," Wesley said. "What Hope may lack in experience, she more than makes up for in other areas. There's actually someone else that I think she should see." He pulled out his wallet and handed Liz a business card for Dr. Veronica Smyth. "She's a psychiatrist that deals with more...supernatural cases, I guess is a way to put her. She comes from a family of psychics and witches, but she's normal. Her twin seemed to have gotten a double dose of what she should have shared, though. I just say that she has experience, I guess."
"I'd... have to ask her." She shook her head and sighed. "Selinda doesn't always trust people right away. I cant put her through this if she doesn't want to."
"I know," Wesley said with a nod. "I wouldn't want you to force her to do anything at this point, or any point, really. It might be good for her, though. Give her someone that she could vent to, at least. If she even does 'venting.'"
"I'll definitely talk to her. It might do her some good... if she's willing to give the lady a chance. I just know that, for the first time in years, she seems HAPPY. Like she really is satisfied with her life." Liz smiled, knowing her sister finally seemed in a good place, even if not mentally.
"Maybe having the two meet in a non-office setting first might help," he suggested. "Still, it's up to her in the end. I wouldn't worry too much about it, to be honest. She does seem to be doing well, anyway."
"She seems more coherent now... if still a little flighty at times. I just want her to live as normally as she can. And.... don't be alarmed if she starts to cling to you a little." Liz warned with a little bit of a wince. "She's been without a father figure for most of her life... so seeing you so close to me, she's bound to start trusting you more than most men."
He nodded. It didn't bother him in any way, especially since he had no intention of going anywhere any time soon. "I can understand that," he said. "Do you think she'd ever be ready to do any sort of schooling situation?"
"I... think it's a little too hopeful to expect her to function properly in a normal school... but I'm sure we can figure something out..." What, she wasn't sure of. She knew she had to do something though...
"What has she had, as far as schooling goes?" Wesley asked. "Tutors of any kind? We can arrange for ones to come in for her. I even have teaching experience, if that would help at all."
"She's had tutors, a bit of homeschooling... she's naturally smart, luckily, so shes on about the right level for her age... but she does need formal schooling of some sort." Liz just feared sending such an emotionally fragile girl to a place as vile as high school.
"A regular high school would be out of the question," he said quickly. "There are private schools, but that would require sending her away, which would be just as bad. Maybe she should get her socializing more from the Slayers, for now."
"That's what I'm hoping, that maybe they can help her become mroe socially... aware, I guess." Truthfully, she wasnt sure what wording she was looking for there.
"I think I understand what you mean," he said. "Maybe this will just be a situation where we have to wait and see what happens." He sighed. "Not the greatest situation, but it's what we have."
"And it's at least partially my fault. All I can do now is make it up to her...be here for her." Liz sighed, not even moping... she knew that had she believed her sister earlier, she might not be in the mental place she was now.
Wesley reached over and brushed some stray hair out of her face. "That is what you can do, and it's what you're doing. Just remember that."
"So... this is where I ask you an awkward question." She said, smirking with a tinge of embarrassment as she thought back to her conversation with Bronte.
"Alright," he said, arching an eyebrow. "What sort of awkward question? There are lots of them."
"Do you... work with any guys that are as nice as you, and at least partially as handsome?" She giggled hysterically as she asked, feeling like a teenager again.
He briefly looked at her like she had grown a second head. "I'm...I'm honestly not sure. I'm not exactly a good judge of...handsomeness. Why do you ask?"
"Well... an old friend of mine is back in town. Shes very pretty, but she wants a guy, well... like YOU. Who isn't just after one thing." Hey, honesty worked, right?
He actually laughed at that. "Well, most of the other Watchers are attached, I think. Well, Giles isn't, but I don't think he's, ah, looking right now, either. I'd have to think about that."
"Damn. Bronte's a really great girl. I've known her since I was in med school... of course, I didn't know then that she's a werewolf, but still!" Yeah, this life? WEIRD.
"Bronte? Do you mean Bronte Bale?" If so, incredibly small world. "I don't know her personally, but I knew that the owners of Avarice had a sister named Bronte."
"Yeah, that's her. I know every thinks she's an ice queen, but you just have to get to know her. She's a very loyal friend." The blonde actually frowned there, cutely. "She deserves to be happy."
"Everyone deserves to be happy," he said to her. "I'll ask around, or try to figure it out. I've never done this before. Is that obvious?"
"It's ok. You don't seem the matchmaker type, no offense." She said with a smirk, trying not to laugh at his nervousness. "Just... don't be obvious. Just try to find out if any of the nicer guys you know are single. Cause I'm telling you... Bronte's a great catch, if the guy's a keeper."
He nodded. "I'll see what I can do." He still wasn't sure if he was a good catch himself, honestly. He couldn't help it. Even with all he had, he still didn't have the greatest of self-esteem.
"I feel so silly, even asking that, you know? You guys are trying to save the freaking WORLD, and I'm asking you to play cupid for one of my friends..." She shook her head and giggled, rolling her eyes. "It really IS silly."
"Helping a friend find happiness isn't all that silly," Wesley said to her. "It's part of what we're fighting for. For others to find happiness. To be able to."
"I really think this medical program has a chance, Wesley. It's just... something I have a good feeling about. It will take a lot of people keeping a lot of secrets.. but I really think it can work." She smiled, feeling more confident than she had in a long time.
Wesley smiled. "I'm sure that it will go over very well," he said to her. "Don't worry about it." He put his arm around her shoulders. "Everything will be alright."
