Rules Are Made to be Broken
Who: Aidan and Buffy
When: Tuesday, Dec. 9
Where: Aidan's Place
All she could think of was how good the cold tile of the floor felt against the bare flesh of her shoulders. It was an odd thought for Buffy Summers to be having right now, but it was there nonetheless. She had just had a hell of a training session with her new watcher, who really was quite good at training. No wrestling yet, unfortunately, but still... he was good. Having just finished, the teen laid down not on the workout mat, but on the floor next to it, in her sweatpants and a tight white tanktop. She was sweaty as hell, and the coolness of the tile felt as good as ice cream right now.
Aidan grabbed two clean towels that he had set aside for them before they started training, and grabbed two bottles of water out of the mini-fridge that he had already set up. He passed a towel and a bottle of water to Buffy, and, by passing it, he means setting them down beside her as he sat down on the floor as well.
She took long breaths, her chest heaving a bit as she let out a little laugh at how worn out she was. "That was... pretty amazing. I knew I had a lot of... power... but I didn't even know I could DO some of that."
He uncapped his bottle of water and took a gulp before answering her. "Soon enough, you might even learn to do more than that. All it's going to take is a lot of training and work." He grinned a little. "I'm sure you're looking forward to that."
"Never thought I'd say it, but... actually I am." She chuckled, still catching her breath. "Did I do ok?"
He couldn't help but smile at the sound of that. "You did great," he told her. "You don't have to worry about that at all."
She wiped the sweat from her brow, propping herself up on her elbows a little. "So. Question: why was I never told before, that there are 'good' vampires? I was pretty much told, 'see a vamp, kill a vamp'. End of story. But now I've met one that's kinda trying to be on our side."
Aidan arched his eyebrow at that, turning to look at her. "Now, who exactly told you there was such a thing as a good vampire? That's a new one on me." Anything was possible, technically, but fewer things were less likely.
"I met her, actually." Ok. Her watcher hadn't even heard of this? Wonderful. "She's either trying to be good or she's a better actress than anyone I've watched on TV."
"Well, anything is possible, I suppose." If she had met her and they both walked away, then that at least spoke wonders for the vampire. "A vampire is a person without a soul. It's a person with all of their baser instincts but without the voice inside of them telling them that they *shouldn't* do the bad things that most people still kind of want to do. While it's not impossible, it's a bit unlikely."
"I mean, if it's true, shouldn't we really be trying to get her more on our side?" Buffy may not be a master strategist, but still... this made sense to her. "What could be better than having a vampire to help you fight OTHER vamps?"
He nodded. "If she is the real thing, a good vampire, then she would be a plus to have on our side." Still, how do you test for such a thing?
"Aidan?" The blonde asked, her voice sounding a bit doubtful. "Do you really think I have what it takes to do this? I mean... before I was 'called', I was pretty useless... and the first two vamps I came across here... both got away."
"No one gets them all, Buffy," he said to her, his voice softening a bit. "For every few that get away, you'll kill dozens of others who might have went on to kill hundreds of people. Tell me about the two that got away. Anything special about them?"
"Well, one was the girl I told you about. I guess she was a regular vampire, and then recently decided she wants to try being, like... you know... un-evil." Buffy scrunched up her face at how stupid that sounded. "The other was, if this makes any sense, a girl I knew in high school, only, NOT her."
"She decided to be un-evil?" Aidan asked, using her word. "That's interesting." His inner Watcher couldn't help but be interested in the idea of that. "What do you mean, a girl you knew but not her?"
"Ok. Try to follow me here, because I'm not even sure *I* follow me." Buffy took a deep breath and tried to blurt this all out. "I went to school with a girl named Willow. When I got here, I found her, as a vampire, trying to feed off some girl outside of a club. But when I called back to Sunnydale, I find out Willow is still there, human as ever."
"So, you've got two versions of your old high school friend running around?" Now, that was interesting. "Well, there are parallel universes. I know it sounds strange, but there are different worlds, just like ours, with the same people, but different in some way. Like, maybe there's a world where you're the one and only Slayer, or maybe a world that doesn't have Slayers at all. It can get very confusing. Maybe your extra Willow got brought in from one of those somehow."
"So... what you're saying is... we don't have ENOUGH vamps of our own running around, now we're bringing in ones from OTHER worlds?" A slim brow arched, and she smirked. "Nice."
"Obviously," he said. "That's exactly what we need. To ship vampires from other worlds. Whomever brought her over probably didn't do it on purpose. At least, I hope not. She could have slipped through unintentionally."
"Any chance there's another version of Christian Bale running around? That's obsessed with me?" She asked, you know, just in case.
He laughed and shrugged. "Anything is possible. Now, will he ever get to come to this world? That's not highly probable."
"Just ruin all my dreams, pal. Thanks." She looked at him, taking a moment to thank god he wasn't a mind reader. He was pretty much the hunkiest thing she'd seen since coming to this city, and if she couldn't say or do anything about it, well hell... at least she could THINK it.
"Sorry, it's a part of my job," Aidan joked. He couldn't help but sneak a quick peak at Buffy in her sweaty tank top, even though he really knew that he shouldn't be looking at her like that.
"So, when do I get a motorcycle?" She asked with a laugh. "We can make like the guys in Easy Rider, just with no drugs and no Dennis Hopper."
"Well, how well can you drive?" Aidan asked her. "I'm willing to give you a few lessons as long as you at least have a valid driver's license." He hoped that she was prepared to wipe out dozens of times, though.
Buffy gawked there, as she'd only been kidding! Holy crap, he was willing to help her get a motorcycle??? "Wow. I was so kidding. Um... me on a bike? Not a great idea, unless you want me more deformed than the kid from Mask. I'd settle for a car that doesn't look like it's from the 30's, though."
He laughed. "I'm sure there's something that the Council can do for you for that, at least." If they wanted to really help these girls, then they can do something like that for them for a change.
"Sweet. My car? About as nice to look at as a natural disaster." She met his eyes briefly for a moment, then caught herself and gave a slight blush.
He smiled at her when she caught his eye. "It doesn't look that bad," he said to her. He was trying to be nice.
"Huh? Oh! The car. My car. You mean." She blushed harder then, looking away.
A part of him was enjoying making her blush like that. Made her look cuter, actually. "Yes, the car. You look much better than just 'not bad,' Buffy," he told her. He knew that she had to know that she was gorgeous. That was obvious.
Well, Buffy definitely thought of herself as pretty. Before her life went all screwy, she might have been vain enough to even say gorgeous. But now? She was a confused young woman who needed the attention he was giving her. "You really think so?"
Now, he wasn't quite expecting that reaction. Even though he knew that being a Slayer was tough, he knew that he couldn't really understand it fully because he could never go through it. "Yeah, I really think so," he said to her.
"Kinda sucks you're older than me, you know. You're about the most decent guy I've met."She said sadly, truly meaning it.
"I'm not *that* much older than you, Buffy," he blurted out before thinking about it. Then, he tried to cover it up with, "However, the problem is that I'm your Watcher. It's considered improper." And an abuse of power, technically. Of course, he never was one to follow too many rules.
"Yeah." Her voice was mocking, although playfully so. "That explains it, then. Because when I look at you? I see a man who LIVES by the rules."
"Oh yeah, I'm all about the rules," Aidan joked. Instead of trying to come up with reasons why they shouldn't act on the feelings that were so obviously there, he instead leaned forward and kissed her. Live in the now and all.
She blinked, but didn't try to pull away. Instead, she kissed him back, and gave a cute little squeal as she did. She pulled away then, looking strangely in between shock and excitement. "Wow."
"Yeah...wow," Aidan said, watching her as she pulled away. He stared at her for a moment, wondering what, if anything, they should do next.
"So... granted, I don't know much about how this stuff works yet? But I'm guessing that's a great big bad in the book of things slayers and watchers should NOT be doing." The blonde quipped, smirking nervously.
"Yep, right at the top of the list, actually," Aidan said with a nod. Still, he looked like he really didn't give a damn about that rule at the moment.
"So... what now?" She dreaded the question but it had to be asked. "I mean, obviously, this isn't some 'blah blah let's be boyfriend and girlfriend' thing, because even I'M not blonde enough to think it works that way."
"Well, I don't know, exactly," he admitted. "How about we just see how things go for right now? Go with the flow, that sort of thing."
"Go with the flow." She started laughing there, not that she really WANTED to. "That's your watcher-ly advice?"
"Well," he started with an arched eyebrow, "what would be your advice, Buffy?"
"Aw, crap. I knew you were gonna ask that. Um... well, what you just did is as good a place to start as any..." She said, a flirty grin on her face. Yeah... so much for training.
Like there was really any other option. "I think that sounds like a very good plan," Aidan said, a rather wicked glint in his eye.
