Getting the hook-up
Who: Patience and CJ
Where: Avarice
When: Wednesday night
"Nooo... now sugar? Listen to me one more time." Avarice was busy as hell tonight... especially for a normally-mild Wednesday night. CJ Swinton was sitting at the bar, clad in skintight brown leather pants and a patchwork blouse seemingly held together by safety pins, that showed off her ample cleavage. "I don't care if God himself wants me to work tonight, this is my night off. So tell Ben that sitting here getting tipsy is the closest I'll be to the bar tonight." She grinned at the flustered tender behind the bar, who walked off, grumbling. CJ called after him. "And bring me a Corona, ok? Thanks, darlin!"
Patience wasn't sure what had brought her to Avarice, especially on a Wednesday night when Pat was busy. She'd told him she'd be fine on her own for a few hours, and that much was true, only she was sure they'd both expected she'd be staying home. There WAS some business she had in mind, however, and Pat had mentioned that Ben owned the club. She wanted to talk to him - about a couple of things - and didn't know where else she might find him. Probably she could have asked Pat to talk to him for her, or she could have even called Ash to see if he'd know where to find him, but instead, she'd headed out to the club. She'd done some shopping earlier in the day, since the only clothes she owned were the few things neither Pat nor Ash had been able to get rid of. She was wearing one of the outfits she'd picked up, a pair of black patent leather hot pants with a silver studded belt that sat low on her hips coupled with a fitted black vest that laced up the front and exposed a fair amount of her fair skin and lithe build. It was the kind of outfit that Pat would want to rip off of her...or, that would make him want to lock her up for good once he found out she'd worn it while specifically looking for Ben Bale. Having sauntered up to the bar, she leaned over the counter to wave down the guy who was working behind it and muttering to himself. "Hey!" she called. "Is Ben around tonight?"
CJ spun around cutely on her stool, and laughed. "Sorry, sweetheart..." she couldn't help but laugh, thinking this was yet another of Ben's bedpost-notches. "Must not be your night on his personal schedule. I think he's got a pair of twins tonight, actually. Still... outfit like that, if he turns up, I'd venture to guess he'd be willing to go again." She was usually a VERY nice, sweet girl... she just didn't respect Ben's little groupies very much. Or Ben himself. But she'd never admit that. Still... she caught herself being catty, and shook her head. "Sorry... bad night, that's all. But yeah... he's in the back. If you know what I mean, the 'do-not-disturb' sign is up."
It was the sound of a voice to her left that drew Patience's attention and she dismissed the guy behind the bar before he could even answer. "What're you, his receptionist?" She eyed the woman up and down, skeptically at first and then with a vaguely different light as a little grin curved her red-glossed lips. "He's not really my type, if you gotta know. I'm just looking to talk to him about...stuff." Not like she was going to go around advertising that he'd had her brought back from the dead. "How's his stamina? I mean, if it takes him a while to get off, I might as well catch him another time...."
CJ chortled there, shaking her head. "Ok... DEFINITELY sorry then. My mistake... I thought you were, well... nevermind. No, trust me, especially if Meredith decides to join them? They could be in there allllllll night. Can I help you? I'm CJ... I'm the main bartender here, although considering the owner has the sexual maturity of a thirteen year old, I tend to do a hell of a lot MORE around here."
"Great." Patience wasn't entirely true to her name and she looked a little put out by the thought that she'd have to come back another time. On the OTHER hand... She eyed the woman again, head cocked to the side as she took her in from head to toe. "Actually, maybe you can. One of the things I wanted to talk to him about was the possibility of scoring a job around here." The undead thing she could work through. The unemployed thing wasn't something she could deal with. She didn't want Pat thinking that she was just going to live off of him for the rest of her life. "Any openings that you know about, by chance? I'm not too picky, as long as it doesn't involve a ride on Ben's whirligig of fun."
Oh, and THAT immediately endeared the girl to CJ. "Honey, then that'll make us the only two women I know that AREN'T related to him that aren't on the whirligig. And you came to the right place. Ben sends anyone interested in tending here to me anyway. He hires most people... but he lets me handle bartenders, and his cousin handle DJs." She looked the blonde over... she definitely had the looks it'd take to get great tips. "Got any experience?"
Experience? Right. Taking a dirt nap for the past couple of years didn't exactly make for a great resumé. "Well...I know my way around a bar. I know my liquor. And I'm not great at taking shit from people. Paid experience though? That'd be a no." Hey, at least she was honest.
"Well... least you're honest." She raised a brow, grinning wickedly there. "You of age, darlin'?" She asked, as the blonde looked honestly like she could be a few years over OR under 21... she had a young-yet-aged look... a truly classic beauty.
"My ID says I am," was Patience's reply, possibly ruining that whole honest vibe. "I'm legal and I've been around alcoholics since I was a kid. I can handle myself and I'm not interested in drinking while I'm on the clock. I just need a job." All right, so she was still being honest. She didn't like beating around the bush and expected people to be straight with her too. So if she wasn't going to tend bar at Avarice, that was fine. Maybe there was something else she could do. Anything - okay, not anything, but she'd meant it when she said she wasn't going to be picky.
"Hey." CJ grinned at her, liking the girl's spunk. "Tell you what... come on in later this week. We'll let you work with me for an evening. If you handle it ok, I'll have Ben hire you. He's like a damned mob boss around here or something, so cops aren't gonna give you any shit as long as you don't drink here, ok?" She couldn't help but smirk as she gave Patience a once-over there. "And I gotta admit... dress like that? You'll make a lot of tips."
Patience nodded when the woman told her to come in later in the week. That...she could do. Would Pat be glad to hear about it? She hoped so. He HAD offered to talk to Ben anyway. She was just trying to cut out the middle man. Apparently, she'd be dealing with the middle-woman, who was coming off a lot more competent than Ben. Not that she had too much to go on, but from what she was hearing about the guy.... "Oh yeah? Well, I'm not against separating guys - or girls - from their cold, hard cash. So to speak. As long as I'm bringing in tips, I'll be able to keep dressing this way. And by that token, you must be doing pretty damn good yourself."
CJ held back a flattered giggle there, smirking. She was used to being hit on by both sexes, but she still couldn't help but he especially flattered when a gorgeous woman did so. "So... got a name, hot stuff?"
"Patience," she answered, not skipping a beat as she added, "It's a lie. I'm not great with that particular virtue, but...." She shrugged, as if to say, 'What're ya gonna do?' "Most just call me PK...or baby. You can pick." She grinned slightly and leaned against the edge of the bar again. "So you're really not involved with Ben? From what I hear, you look like you'd be just his type." She recalled, vaguely, what Pat had said, but it boiled down to something along the lines of big-breasted and hot. Not that Patience was against THAT.
"Benjamin... is a very, VERY handsome man." CJ admitted, shaking her head. "And he's damned charming. But I find something very UNsexy about even considering being with a guy who's bedded roughly half of Los Angeles." Hey, if nothing else? CJ was damned honest. "No... I can't say I'm involved with anyone right now. This place is pretty much my life right now."
She shook her head with a smile, not so sure about the allure of Ben Bale, but it seemed to be legendary. "I've only had one run-in with him, about a month or so ago. Mostly I know OF him through my brother and my fiancé. But I definitely feel you on that. And to think about him with Mere...." Patience shrugged again. That was just...a whole different level of crazy right there. "You know, the club's nice, but I don't know if it's THAT nice. Sounds like you need some action in your life."
"Well..." CJ wanted to feel indignant and argue that, but damn it, the blonde was RIGHT. "What can I say? Since I moved out here, I haven't really had the time to meet people, make friends... most of the people I meet here are drunks or louses... but you know? Maybe you and I can hit the town sometime."
The look in Patience's blue-gray eyes sharpened at that, turned almost downright predatory and yet...held a hint of amusement as her smile widened. Gwen HAD told her to check out Avarice for possible replacements...not that Gwen could ever truly be replaced. In all honesty, Patience hadn't really been looking for another playmate. One of the reason things had happened between her and Patrick and Gwen was because there had been deep, abiding emotions involved. Sharing a girl with Pat just for the sake of sharing a girl? Well...okay. It did sound pretty hot. "We should definitely do that. We'll hit it and we'll hit it HARD."
"Well, don't count on THAT." She admitted, "I'm not a big partier, unfortunately. Although if you have ideas, well... I'm always up for an adventure or two." She'd never admit it (mostly because it sounded pathetic) but part of her was SERIOUSLY hoping that maybe. just MAYBE, she'd finally found someone in this strange-ass city that she could call a good friend, in time. She still felt so lonely here: no family, no CLOSE friends... she was starting to feel a little desperate. Hell... BEN was the closest thing she had to a best friend here, and she couldn't stand him half the damn time.
"That'll depend on your idea of an adventure, but I don't have any doubt that we could find SOMETHING to get into." In fact, she already had a couple ideas, but.... "Anyway, I'll be back later in the week. I should probably cut out now. I didn't actually tell my fiancé I was coming out here tonight, and he's probably wondering where I am. I'd planned to get in and get out with Ben as quickly as possible." She made a face and rolled her eyes. She'd have to catch him another time to talk to him about what she really wanted to talk about. IF she could catch him alone...and with his pants up. "But I'm gonna hold you to going out sometime. You REALLY don't need to stay cooped up in this place."
"Alright..." She actually laughed sweetly there. Maybe it was time she tried trusting someone. Befriending someone, even. "Consider it a date. You pick something out, and I'll give it a try. Cross my heart."
