looking through the glass, different than looking in

It's funny really. Funny how within the blink of an eye (I like how that saying is still fitting to me) everything can change. Now, I'm not talking about how you got a hole in your favorite pair of jeans or how your favorite tv show has been preempted for another annoying presidential address. I'm talking about really changing. How within a few seconds, your very best friends can be lying dead at your feet. A few seconds later, you're pulled into a whole new world and you're not sure what is up and what is down or what is what.

For instance, my bff does not exist anymore in this world, that being Faith. My slayer, Solvei, is now a murderess. Cordelia, who was a Power That Be, no one has seen or heard from since we got here. Heard from Buff that Dawn wants nothing to do with her because of how the Buffy was in her world, this world. It's really all very confusing. The point is, sometimes, you wonder why you're able to keep moving when everything around you changes. Ahh, never been one to stay in the dumps for too long. Dean went off the day before yesterday to break Solvei out of the big house. I'm hoping that she's somewhat like how my Soly was.

You would've thought that I would be the last person to make a wish. Considering my history and how opposed I am to even the word wish used in casual context. Seeing my world being destroyed with everyone I held dear already gone or soon to be gone I didn't feel I had any other choice. I hoped that Tara was putting the blame on me more than herself. I was the one that got us into this predicament with no way out. Maybe, everyone would forgive me. I just wish hoped that I could've saved them all.

One thing that hasn't changed is that I have gone back to my usual duty of fixing things. Since we set up shop in this hotel that in this world has not been lived in for decades. Tara and Buffy did the cleaning thing and I did the fixing thing. First I started on the windows that were broken. Then halfway through the rinse cycle of probably the tenth load of linens that Buffy and Tara washed the motor blew out. Had to fix that. Putting new lightbulbs in all of the fixtures that had burned out. That sort of thing. It's all been extremely exciting. Can you sense the sarcasm?

Finished putting a third door on it's jam on the fourth floor when I heard a ruckus downstairs. That had to be Sol returning. Wait, that kind of sounded like her yelling. Ut oh. Who knows what that was about. If she's been like this the whole ride I really felt bad for Dean.

"You killed him! You bitch!" Running for the balcony I looked down. Sol had just decked Buffy. "You sent him there, you sent us both in there to die." I couldn't hear Buffy but she was saying something in a low voice trying not to engage or get her more pissed off.

That's when Sol pulled a knife from her back. Putting my fingers to my mouth I let out a shrill whistle. Dean already had Sol around the waist and he wasn't letting go. "Sol! Knock it off!" I shouted as she struggled. As soon as she heard me she stopped.

Got down the stairs in record time. She was just staring at me the look in her eyes was like she was a rabid animal. Then as I got closer there were tears in her eyes. Nodding at Dean he let her go. Saying to both Dean and Buff, "Can we get some privacy, please?" Without complaint, they both headed up the stairs.

"Sol." With that she had launched herself into my arms. "Woah... need to breathe." She let her grip loosen just a tad. She was crying in earnest now and her knees were going weak just like they usually did when she was really crying hard. She started to hiccup and I ushered her over to the couch to sit down. "Sorry... couldn't save you." I had my arm around her and I was rocking her, almost like you would a child. "Sorry for letting you down."

"Sol... shhh... listen to me. I'm here. I might not be the exact same person that you knew. But it's me and I'm here and I'm not going to go anywhere. Okay?" She nodded against my chest.

"We need to talk about some stuff though, k?" She nodded again. "Buffy is not like the Buffy at all from here from what I've heard."

She sighed before looking up at me and said, "I just got caught up in the moment. I'm going to have to apologize."

We traded stories for a while. How I had died was a big one. It seems as though the council had wanted Buffy to go destroy a very large vamp nest in New Orleans. She wanted to go off to a fashion show and buy some clothes and so she called me up and I guess I was quite the pushover, 'cause I ended up dying.

She also told me about how I wasn't missing an eye but a leg here. I guess I'm bound to be some sort of pirate-type guy in all universes or would that be universi?

After Sol got all settled in she finally went to sleep. Couldn't help but chuckle when she picked the same room and for the same reason as before. The bathtub. She wasn't different at all hardly. Except for the being a vegetarian thing. What the hell was that about? My Sol lived for the breakfast pig. There was the jail thing too. We hadn't gotten to that part, but we would in time.

Decided to go for a walk after all of that. I needed to clear my head and it was too nice of a day to stay cooped inside fixing things, at least not for the whole day.
