"Doesn't matter now." Decided I was done talking about it. Couldn't change the past, I just had to play the cards I'd been dealt. Fact was I should have known, it was my job to protect people. Now I was something that needed to be locked up to keep people safe.
"No. Think I'll stick with my whiskey. Might go out to the barn and check for re-bar to use on the cage." Couldn't weld tonight, not with all the moisture in the air, the welds wouldn't hold. Truth was I wanted to walk in the dark rain and try and freeze myself to death in the cold.
"If you want to read or sleep or whatever go ahead, I'll watch the fire until it burns down." Stared into the flames, leaning back in the battered recliner I'd claimed and taking another swallow. Looked up at the roof as the sound of rain hitting the tin turned louder.
Was that hail? Looked out the window and saw it was snowing. "Fuck me, its snowing now."
