Roy was surprised at the things this place brought out of him and Riza. He would still refer to her as Lieutenant once this was through, and they'd act the way they normally did, but this situation had them both uneasy. He was grateful that he at least had Riza here. While Roy was fully capable of protecting himself from others, it was Riza who protected him from himself. He'd never had the greatest sense of self-preservation.
Christian caught glimpse of Roy and Riza's actions from behind them and smiled a little. They were older than him, he knew that much, but they were like a weird combination of himself, Rose, Lissa, and Dimitri. The girl reminded him a lot of Dimitri though, with the way she spoke about keeping Roy safe. Christian rose his hand, mainly to respond to Riza. "I don't think this place is going to have guns, miss," he added politely. "Maybe bows and arrows." He wasn't really the type that liked to be center of attention in the room. He was normally quiet and observant, only speaking out when he felt it was needed. And usually what he had to say was insightful. He quieted down again before allowing another person to raise their hand.
Ysmir nodded in regards to Christian's comment. "Most people here use a bow and arrows. The Dawnguard have crossbows and bolts, but they don't give those freely. You have to join their faction." He gathered she'd know from those clues he had one of these crossbows and could ask him later about it. "Bows and arrows are easy to come across here. Iron arrows are the cheapest but don't do a lot of damage. Steel arrows are decent but a little more spendy. There are other styles of arrows but each gets a little more expensive as you work up the ranks."
Addressing her next question, he made sure it carried to the whole of the group. "You'll find a lot of dangers here. Especially in the woodlands. We have wolves, bears, the occasional sabre cat... All those animals are hostile. Mammoths are common here, but they aren't interested in volatile attacks. They're often herded by the giants, and those are what you really want to avoid. Most of them are territorial but don't leave their camps. Stay away from them and you'll be safe." There was so much more he could tell them about the giants, but it would be a lot to say right now.
Christian perked at the mention of mammoths. This place had a lot of the same animals Earth had, but the mammoths especially surprised him. Those were extinct as a species back home, so seeing one here would really be something else. Raising his hand, he spoke up again. "I looked out earlier, and there's a city nearby. I'd like to go there. What kind of services do they offer there?"
"An excellent question. That's Whiterun," Ysmir replied. "It was one of the first cities I visited when I first came here. The people there are good and the Jarl takes care of his city. Be respectful to the people, and they'll do the same to you. After I leave, I will notify the guards to let you all in the main gates. As for the services, there are two blacksmiths, an apothecary, a fletcher, a tavern, a Temple of Kynareth, and Jorrvaskr, for the Companions. There's also a little marketplace where the locals offer their goods."
