It was the fact that he'd made it clear that it wasn't a rank thing. That he wasn't playing Commanding Officer this time. That this was her father speaking as her father. That the secret she'd been keeping for six months had finally caught up to her and she was going to have to own up to it. With that sigh, she swore she'd seen her father finally age.
It scared her.
"Six months," she said quietly, unable to look at him. Her chest hurt. It hurt worse that she suddenly realized that she'd had something she couldn't talk to her dad about. She cleared her throat and raised her eyes to look at him. "We've been married for six months."
