She was fine.
She told herself this. She even practiced saying it in the mirror. She was fine. She didn't miss Larry any more than was normal (whatever that meant). Her sleep was the same way it always was. She was fine. If she said it enough times, it would be true.
But the real truth was that the dreams, which never used to scare her or even unsettle her very much, were full of blood and that last flash of steel and the sense that no matter what she did, things would never be right. The real truth was that she felt herself going cold all over, right down to her bones. It showed in her face, she knew.
But she was fine.
