What Lexi had said rattled around Nathan's brain for a few days. That was the way he dealt with new things, big things - he had to let everything settle in before he could really act on it. And it made sense, what she'd said. It changed everything, but it made sense.
Finally, he did have to accept it. It was a relief, an almost physical sense of release, to believe that maybe everything this time around was less about building an eternal kingdom and more about living in one. They'd already spent the blood and sweat and tears to build Camelot. Now, their only responsibility had to be to live up to the ideals.
He could do that. He could have a life. And he desperately wanted to have that with Jim.
Jim was due home soon, and Nathan was in a pretty damn good mood. He had sawdust in his hair and was smiling slightly to himself as he sat on the porch steps with a piece of wood and one of his knives. He was working on his left handed carving and not doing half bad at coaxing delicate pictures out of the wood. He'd figured some stuff out, was getting the rest of his shit in line, and, in short, was looking and feeling more like himself than he had since he first realized what was happening to him. Maybe he wasn't nearly as crazy as he'd thought.
