His marriages had been like a study in how not to conduct relationships in the modern era. He didn't remember what his relationships had been like before, really; he was almost glad. If he had been like this then, he was better off not to have to remember twice over.
There was a twinge of something in the back of his mind when he looked at Lexi, like he had told himself not to forget something about her, but could remember only that he wasn't supposed to forget. It wasn't quite a warning, but he didn't like it spoiling the warmth he'd felt with her so far.
