There really wasn't any reason for Enfys' response to be quite as defensive as it came out... no reason, at least, beyond the usual ones which hovered over any conversation between the popular and the misanthropic, the unspoken why are you talking to me? What do you want? When does the mocking start? lingering in the shadows. Not that Meghan had ever been cruel per se, so it was largely unjustified, but classroom politics were hard to let go of and there were rules and norms and things and girls with far too many Facebook friends to count didn't randomly strike up conversation with the resident Freak.
Didn't help either that Enfys couldn't work out if Meghan genuinely reminded her of a girl she'd known once (once-before, rather than once-now) or if it was just Nimue haunting her in other guise... probably the latter. She really hoped it was the latter. There had to be someone in Britannia who wasn't involved in all this.
