The man who answers is polite looking, about forty. He's familiar by face, but probably not by name, as a longtime resident of the town.
He introduces them to his wife, then shows them the small apartment above the garage. It's chilly and sparse, but there's a bed, a dresser, and a small half bathroom. A door leads out to an exterior staircase, so one doesn't have to go through the house to get in.
Elaine is clearly only half listening to his discussion of rules and issues, looking around and very taken with it.
