A quick breath and then Lexi reached out to take her hand, the one that was absently wandering along Elaine's own skin, holding it in her own, bending to press her lips to the palm, to hold a second kiss there, at the fluttering pulse point.
"I don't know what will happen tomorrow," she admitted, raising her eyes to look at Elaine, hand still clasped loosely in her own, resting on her knee. She spoke the words into Elaine's skin, as if somehow they would stay there. "Or the next day. Or the one after that. I only know right now. And right now, Elle, I'm here. What you believe doesn't matter. I know you are beautiful and sweet and sexy and I wouldn't have changed anything we've done, not for the world. What I felt..."
Lexi hesitated, then shook her head, closing her eyes and resting her forehead against Elaine's wrist. "I could no more have helped touching you than a bird could stop flying," she whispered, far more silver of tongue than she normally was. But then she smiled slightly and she was back to herself, adding, "Not counting, of course, penguins or emus. Who can't fly at all."
