"Yeah," Lexi said, leaning in a little, absently wondering what it'd be like to run her fingers through Elaine's hair. She thought it'd be soft, that it'd tangle a little around them, right at the end. It was like she could almost feel it, almost remember, but that wasn't possible. "Yeah, I guess so."
Funny, she felt a little sad about that. There were other things under there, other kinds of sadness, a hurt that hadn't ever really gone away, confusion and betrayal. But Lexi wasn't sure where any of that had come from, so she focused instead on the present, on Elaine, and tried for a slight smile. "Sorry, I'm a little tired. Just got into town a few hours ago."
