Cate took the phone from him with a frown, glancing down at the screen and back up at him with a mix of concern and confusion. While she'd certainly heard stories of witches and wizards with abilities that defied the imagination, or even that were just so unusual that few had seen them, she had very little experience with them. Even if this wasn't purely a wizard thing, her sense of it was similar: that she probably wasn't going to understand it right now, that she needed to tread carefully, and that someone—probably Njall—could get hurt if she didn't.
She dialed the number for lack of other ideas, and because she couldn't exactly deny such an anguished request. She knew Felix as well as she did any other occasional patron from town, which was to say that beyond knowing his favorite drink and enough details about him to make pleasant conversation, she knew very little. His confusion at hearing her voice was evident, after the warm greeting that was no doubt intended for the man across from her, but there was a definite change in his tone after she explained as briefly and simply as she could. That there was little hesitation in his voice was a relief, and she ended the call, slid the phone back under Njall's hands, and placed her own on top of it again.
