Little Rock hadn't had a Christmas like this in a very long time, if ever. Sure she and her family had celebrated the holiday before but it was never quite as extravagant as several trees and wreaths everywhere, and more baking than anyone could possibly eat. And even Christmas that were good and fun were a few years back, before her Mom had gotten married. Wichita had tried to make them okay after that but there was only so much even her sister could do when Mike got drunk and started running his mouth, or worse.
She kind of liked it though. Christmas like this. And even though things had been a little tense there for a while with Jo and Sam and everything the house seemed to work itself out again. And they even had a few more people now. She still missed her sister, she always would. But it was at least a little easier with all the people around.
She stuck a skittle in the fairly generous layer of icing on the snowman cookie, it was her turn to take something for her class tomorrow to celebrate the coming holiday. She and Jess had settled on snowmen cookies. She'd been fairly quiet though in the adventure, because while she was happy with living at the house, loved her little pseudo family she couldn't help but worry about Jess and Sam's upcoming wedding. It wasn't that she didn't like Sam, she really did. And he was a nice guy and he was nice to her. It was just that Mike had been a nice guy, and been nice to her and she'd really liked him. Until he married her Mom. And then it was like everything changed and he stopped trying to be nice, and he just turned mean.
"Will we still bake cookies after you and Sam get married?" she asked without really thinking it through and then looked down at her snowman cookie, seemingly embarrassed that she had let the question blurt out.
